Ohio State has a bevy of 'scat back' RB's on their roster, but currently, no one that can run consistently with power and authority between the tackles, like we enjoyed with Zeke. This is Big Ten football, where certain games dictate (by weather conditions or defensive schemes) the necessity to play power football.
Getting Ohio's top running back Dayton Dunbar's Tavion Thomas commitment for 2018 is important. He is a bonafide 20 carries a game RB at 6-2 225, and most probably, easily put on an extra 10 lbs.of muscle to that frame, without losing his elusiveness.

Zeke was a 6-0 200 "scat back" when he came to Ohio State. When he was a Junior at Ohio State he was a 6-0 225 grown man. The top 3 RBs on Ohio State's depth chart are a 5-10 214 Soph, a 5-11 208 Soph and a 5-11 208 Freshman. All have the opportunity to become a grown man like Zeke became.

I appreciate our quality group of RB's are getting stronger and put on a few pounds, but we lack that stud, that can bust the gap and knock a LB on his butt, or serve as lead blocker and knock someone on their butt.
Zeke Elliot kept himself a mean and speedy 6-0 225 as a So. & Jr.
Carlos Hyde before him was an imposing 6-0 235 as a Jr. (2012) Anyone remember the freshman Carlos Hyde 6-0 242....?
Remember 6-1 245 Zach Boren, called on to get that tough goal line yardage, or a crucial 1st down (and was usually successful)?
How about 6-3 245 Adam Homan? Essentially serving as predecessor for Boren.
Let's not forget Beanie Well's who maintained his size at 6-1 237 as a So. & Jr.
My intent is not to diminish the quality class of RB's we presently have on our roster, but envision the potential Tavion Thomas poses, to be the next great power back at Ohio State, especially after Marotti gets hold of him....lol

I'm well aware of the size of the RB's at Ohio State BEFORE Urban's days at Ohio State. My point was Zeke WAS NOT a power runner when he arrived at Ohio State, he was a "scat back". He was given his "power" after arriving. BUT, what made him a 1st round draft choice was not his "power". His best RB qualities are his ability to cut on a dime and his explosive next 3 steps to get through a hole faster than anyone and acceleration after that. All qualities of a "scat back". He was tested by a sports scientist, who said he was by far THE best at those attributes of all RBs he had ever tested. Zeke was known for his speed in high school, winning 3 events at the State Track meet. There was a question by some if he could play Big Ten football, since he played for a small school, there was no video of him playing against high Division schools.
Carlos Hyde was not recruited by Urban, he was recruited by Tressel to play Fullback, the position he played in high school. Fullbacks were an integral part of Tressel's Pro-I Offense. There is no Fullback position in Urban's Spread Read Option Offense. Urban would not have recruited Carlos
Zach Boren also was recruited to play Fullback by Tressel. Urban used Boren as an H-back/blocking only TE. Urban eventually moved him to Mike. Urban would not have recruited Boren.
Urban in all of his years as a Head Coach has never previously nor will he in the future ever recruit a Fullback. Urban has always recruited "scat backs" and bulked them up to play TB in a Power 5 Conference. You can't make a player quick and fast, only God can. THE 2 most important qualities Urban looks for in a TB, but you can add 20-25 pounds of muscle.
I'm not even sure Urban would have recruited Beanie. He probably would have, only because he was an Ohio player. If he was an out of state player I don't think so. Beanie's 4.65 40 would not fit Urban's read option plays, which require "scat back" types.
Tavion Thomas's video reminds me of Beanie, not Zeke. Thomas says his best 40 time is 4.63. Zeke ran a 4.47 electronic at the combine, after adding 25 pounds. Let's hope Marotti can take off a few pounds off Thomas and add some quickness.

All, valid points. "You can't make a player quick and fast, only God can".....I fully agree. You can only make a slow player, less slow....lol
How many times have we seen Zeke out sprint DB's to the end zone? Try weekly. Zeke was a state qualifier in sprinting and hurdling events. He capped his high school career by winning four state championships at the Missouri Class 3 state championships in 2 1⁄2 hours (100-meter dash, 200, 110 high hurdles and 300 hurdles). He recorded career-best times of 10.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 22.05 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 13.77 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 37.52 seconds in the 300m hurdles. He was named the Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year in the state of Missouri.

The flow of talent from the IMG pipeline continues. Urban Meyer's guys beat out Florida State, Clemson, Alabama and Michigan. Another crazy recruiting class like 2017?

Josh Proctor out of Owessa, Oklahoma picked Ohio State over scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Michigan and many others.
The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound Proctor is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings.
He is the country’s No. 2 safety and the No. 2 prospect in Oklahoma.
The 2018 class is gonna be crazy good, just like the '017 class.

5 star ⭐️ former penn state commit DE Micah parsons decommited from psu tonight. Osu looks to be the front runner now and he is osu top target on the board. Westerville south Gill is recruiting him hard, I'm thinking parsons will be a buckeye soon. Osu gets who they want. D line is gonna be SCARY in the coming years with 17' recruits and 18s. As if it's not already scary.

Parsons is rated one of the top DE in the country, but rather undersized for the position at 6-3 235. Perhaps the Buckeyes are looking at him as a LB?

How many pounds of muscle do you suppose Mickey will add before he's a starter? All depends on where they intend to play him. If they intend to keep him at DE, bulking up would be more of a priority. If his future is LB, adding muscle, maintaining mobility and quickness would be the call. Either way, a good get.

The d-line recruits in this class could be just like the DB recruits of the '17 class. With Vincent and Cox already in, you can also add possibly Parsons and Tyreke Smith to this class and that is one helluva d-line haul. They are also in on a couple other d-line players if those two don't commit here, although it's looking pretty good for both of them at the moment.
In a few years we could have Bosa, Jonathan Cooper, Jerron Cage, Haskell Garrett, Chase Young, Vincent, Cox, Parsons, and Smith.

Ohio State is in very good position to land 5* Anthony Cook from Texas. Going by Scout's rankings he's the #2 CB in the country out of Texas and the #8 overall player. Steve Wiltfong put in his crystal ball prediction just recently as well.
