This is a Saturday night game between these two long time rivals. SJCC won last year's game 50-43.

The great "who really cares" battle. This coming from a 2 win Perkins fan (0-9 tiffin & 2-7 Norwalk). You might want to start caring about this "battle".... after the beat-down Sandusky gives Perkins tis weekend.

If you read my other posts, you'll find that I feel the same way about the Pirates this year. Every school has some down years. It's the Pirates turn this year, but the once proud SMCC football program is in terrible shape, and apparently no one cares. You're right, you made my point for me. Other than the SMCC players and their parents (and after watching them several times this year, I'm not even sure the players care all that much either), no one else seems to be interested. Sad to see. I remember a very proud SMCC team playing in the state championship game! Exciting football back then. Now football at SMCC seems to be an afterthought. SMCC needs SOMETHING to bring that program back into relevancy. THAT is my point.

SMCC needs SOMETHING to bring that program back into relevancy. Not lose kids to SHS and PHS? At this point in the shared history of the three, that's almost a moot point, unless you're looking at it on a generational basis. The families that can afford St. Mary's will stay there because of the academics and culture of discipline, things that have weakened at Perkins in the last decade. Unless their students can enter Sandusky's gifted academy - that separates the haves from the have-nots all day - most parents outside Streak Nation feel there's no reason to bother at SHS, either. In 8 yrs., Wikel has amassed a record of 24 wins and 57 losses. A full fifty percent of those wins came in the 2014 and 2015 campaigns alone, the latter of which included a speedy exit from their first playoff appearance in a full decade. I understand the times have not been kind to SMCC and some of the smaller schools in the area (private or public), but at what point does an AD and a school system say "We're not going to give into apathy?" SMCC was bitching about the SBC as early as the 80s; after jumping ship - only to jump right back - and getting their way by being able to schedule the "fun-size" conference opponents they've wanted for decades, and they still put on the same shitshow they have since 2008. This was broken up by a two-year stint of decent play as SRL opponents of Lakota, St. Joe's, and St. Wendelin the one year out of two they felt like fielding a team. If the boys there do like Coach Wikel, and are willing to play for him, they've a funny way of showing it. Hard to tell, as I've never known anyone from SMCC to have a presence on the SBC boards here. Before anybody points the finger @ my alma mater, I get it, but one year (so far) in the cellar does not equate to a decade of putting up bad football against either opponents you've been playing for five decades or opponents you've WANTED to play for five decades.

Wikel is the Head Football Coach AND Athletic Director. Hes probably not in a hurry to fire himself. just saying...

In such a case, the admin may want to consider its options.
