The winner of this game will face the Stuebenville/Perry winner in the state semifinals. Are you sure? I thought the OHSAA determines the state semi-final matchups after the regional finals are complete. This is true. Ohsaa had a release today with the matchups. I think only 1 division had a wait and see. All others have been set.

We also forget that all games are on Friday now. Also not sure how many people are driving to watch a game that is a rematch of a complete blowout. That is true

We apologize for lack of heat and hot water last week at Arlin. New Athletic Administration has no clue about playoffs. Probably had stadium winterized after the Madison game. No excuses because we have held playoff games for years! The Mansfield AD? In her first year in any position in an AD office, her only experience in high school sports was coaching girls softball for a few years at a DIII school over a decade ago.

It took me almost 2 hours to get to Oak Harbor from my Parents place just south of town...Google maps does a poor job of factoring in traffic and stop lights...and Kids bladders.... And it was such a traumatic experience for Shelby that they only won by 49 points. One game there every two years... I think everyone would survive (after a few rounds of therapy).

It’s not Friday night football that’s an issue. It’s weekday games. Put freshman boys on a bus there during the week. That means getting home very late after a football game with school the next day.

Mansfield News Journal Whippets on red alert: Shelby gets different Bellevue this time around
SHELBY — What does a coach say to his unbeaten football team to prepare it for a team it has already walloped 46-0?
In Erik Will's case, nothing. In advance of Friday night's Division IV regional championship game against old friend Bellevue, he and his Shelby staff can plop in tape of Bellevue's 21-13 win over Clear Fork last Friday at Arlin Field.
The 9-3 Redmen avenged a week two loss in the valley to the Colts. Bellevue will seek revenge again in this rematch, set for 7:30 p.m. at Ashland's Community Stadium.
"It's hard for 16-, 17-, 18-year-old minds ... it's hard enough for an adult ... to put that (earlier blowout win) on the shelf and say, 'This is a different Bellevue team than what you saw in week four," Will said. "If you look at their their three losses, they're to teams that were a combined 30-0 in the regular season (Clear Fork, Shelby, Sandusky). So you're talking about a good football team.
"From Bellevue's persective, they righted a wrong last week by beating Clear Fork. What better situation for Bellevue to be in? They're in the regional finals and have a program good enough to win this game and nobody's given them a chance."
Shelby's entire body of work is a big reason why. The Whippets have steamrolled their way to the first 12-0 mark in school history, playing every second half this season with a running clock thanks to leads of 30 or more points.
But, as was the case last week for Clear Fork, the Whippets are game-planning for a different-looking Bellevue. Neither the Colts or Whippets had to face multi-threat Treston Francis the first time. He's hard to pigeonhole and even harder to tackle. Is he a running back? A receiver? A quarterback? He's all three.
Since returning mid-season from an ankle injury, he's been unstoppable. Francis had three touchdowns of over 50 yards in a playoff-clinching 33-14 win over Clyde. He followed up with 193 yards rushing and four TDs in a play-off opening win over Pepper Pike Orange. And it was his 58-yard TD run, after being bottled up the first half, that gave his team the lead for good over Clear Fork.
Clear Fork's commitment to the run enabled Bellevue to burn the Colts on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Riley Renwand to 6-foot-3 Dakota McPeak that made it a 21-7 game. McPeak also thwarted Clear Fork's comeback bid with an interception in the end zone.
Old rivals from their days together in the Northern Ohio League, Shelby and Bellevue are both members of the Sandusky Bay Conference, although they're in different divisions.
"We're telling our kids that Bellevue is worthy of being here and if we don't play at a high level, they will beat us," said Will, who has his team back in the regional finals for the second straight year. "It's not coach talk. There are only eight teams left. Any one of those teams is good enough to beat anybody on any given day."
Devon "Shorty" Brooks, the Whippets' 2,000-yard rusher in 2016, had 210 yards rushing and caught a TD pass in last week's 47-7 ouster of St. Marys Memorial, but he left with a gimpy ankle. Will said Brooks plans to play Friday night, but if not the team will turn to freshman Owen Fisher, as it did when Brooks was suspended for the first four games.
"People are like, 'Oh, no, Shorty ..., " Will said. "Understand, Shorty didn't play the first time we faced Bellevue."
The only adversity Shelby faced last week was self-inflicted. All-Ohio quarterback Brennan Armstrong threw two interceptions in the final five minutes of the first half, one of which led to an easy touchdown, cutting the Whippets' lead to 20-7. Armstrong responded by rushing for four touchdowns in the second half as Shelby racked up 411 yards on the ground.
"That's what makes Brennan special," Will said. "He's not a finished product, by any means, but each week he finds a way to get it done. His greatest asset is his leadership and the way he controls his emotions. After his interception, he came over to me and his eyes ... they were focused on the next play. That's so hard for athletes to do after a turnover.
"Turnovers are never good, but our mindset is we are who we are, no matter who we play. We want to be aggressive, we want to score as much as possible and we want to be as balanced as possible."

In 2009 when St. Paul played Wynford there in the playoffs, Ashland did not have any portable seats St. Paul's brought a lot of fans to the game to where the visitors stands were packed to the brim. It didn't take us long to realize that Wynford was using only about half of the home side so the St. Paul's fans went over there and almost filled the rest of the home side. I was at this game, great game, but my brother and I had about 10 rows to ourselves at the one end. It was no where close to full. The band will have their own bleachers on the track. That's how it is for all Ashland games. They wont take up any space in the stands. I watched highlights on WMFD from Shelby's game last week. They didn't fill up the stands in Marion WITH the band sitting in the stands. Don't forget there is room at commuintiy stadium to stand around the entire track, this site will have plenty of room for everyone that wants to attend this game. From where I was sitting, which was usually at the 50 yrd. ln. about halfway up, it looked full to me and St. Paul fans was taking about 1/3 of the home side. I just can't remember seeing any porta stands there at all but they could have and I just looked pass them.

How is the press box at Ashland? I would say it is larger than the average high school press box.

Current forecast for Ashland says it'll be dry and about 40 during the game, with rain not moving in until after midnight. Hopefully that holds.

I've been told by a fan of Shelby football that starters on the O-line and D-line were caught vaping. He asked the head coach if they would be punished or play tonight, as he wasn't buying tickets if they weren't playing. The head coach said they would play tonight.

I'm going to go ahead and confirm that this site is too small. Terrible choice by OHSAA (unless no other site would host?).
