Next week starts the season. Should be an easy double digit win to start the season for Galion. CF starts out with a tough game against Lexington. Pleasant will also have a tough game against Northmor. Norwalk and Ontario should be a good game. I don't know much about the other teams... Any predictions for the first week? Any information on the other games?.... Conference games start 12/8 with every team playing a conference game. I'll post those after the games on 12/2 are played.

The MOAC didn't do newbie Ontario any favors . 4 of their first 5 League games are on the road.

Your 4 out 5 games in the league are on the road, what if we win 3 out of those 4 games or maybe take all 4 games then we should be in very good position to win all 4 games when they have to come to the O-Arena and then we could win the crown in our first year here. How does that so to you.

You saw my ? . At this point I'm hoping for a 12-10 record. Favorable scheduling for Ontario is to play Norwalk the first game of the season at home and not have a rematch.

We better have EMS handy for all of us old timers might be having heart attacks watching them taking the game almost to the end.

Galion wins by 17. We had 3 players in double figures. The Evans kid for Bucyrus had almost 30, can't remember the exact amount. The Carr kid for Bucyrus isn't playing this year, averaged 10ppg last season and another starter is suspended 4 games, he averaged 9ppg last year
Bucyrus JV won by 8

Freshmen game. Ontario over Norwalk 50-26. Which is amazing as 4 of the top 6 from last years 8th grade team are either playing up on Varsity, JV or out for the season with injuries.
I was even more shocked that Ontario JVs held on for a 1 point win. Ontario was up by 8-10 late in the 3rd when Norwalk began pressing. They quickly tied the game and stopped pressing, letting Ontario hang around. Ontario got the lead back out to 4-6 and Norwalk starting pressing again, getting the lead down to 1. They had to 2 possessions to score, but couldn't. This is a weak Ontario team, no good ball handlers, easy to press and force turnovers. If Norwalk had kept the press on they would have won by double digits. Leading scorer was Freshman Kolton Kurtz with 12. If he doesn't score around 20 it will be difficult for this team to win.
I was pleasantly surprised by Ontario's varsity. I realize Norwalk was without their 2 year starter Brandon Harraway, due to drug possession, but they're one of the favorites to win the big school division of the SBC. Ontario looked like a completely different team than what I saw in scrimmages. They did play a lot of DI teams in scrimmages to get this very young team ready for the season. A lot happened in the past week. The half court pressure defense was cranked up a couple of notches looking like what is expected from a Balogh team and the motion offense looked a lot smoother. I'm sure partly due to Balogh paring down his rotation from 11 during scrimmages to just 7 in this game, his smallest in recent memory. That number should increase as a Junior PG was out with an injury. A 6-4 Junior forward is rehabbing after knee surgery and a 6-3 Soph guard will be eligible after 11 games. When they get back, I could see 3 or 4 on the varsity playing part time on JV's to get playing time. A great job was done rotating those 7 on a continual basis from early in the 1st through out the game.
Ontario lead by as many as 13. Balanced scoring, all 7 having at least 5 with 6-2 Jr. Jayden Jacobs leading with 13. He also might have been the leading rebounder.
Ontario won the game at the free throw line, making 18 to 3 for Norwalk, due to driving to the basket more than Norwalk. And by out rebounding the truckers 23 to 12.
Ontario started 1 Sr, 1 Jr and 3 Sophs, with a Sr and a Freshman coming off the bench. A surprise was the first appearance of the year by move in 6-1 Soph. guard Shaquan Coburn. He had not played in scrimmages, but supplanted a Senior in the starting lineup.
It's early, but I might have to change my thoughts on how many wins this team can get. I wasn't counting on this one

This score does not surprise me. With Norwalk missing Haraway who provides about half of everything they do, I thought it may be a little more of a point spread. Ontario added 2 varsity guys from other schools along side 2 tall players with a lot of experience.

The "point spread" was 13 late in the 3rd quarter, at that point instead of taking care of the ball and taking good shots, they got sloppy. Joe was not happy. HOWEVER, they are THE youngest team in Balogh's 33 years, he couldn't be too unhappy.
With Harraway Norwalk is one of the favorites in the SBC big school division.
First untruth. "Ontario added" no one. Two families moved their families to Ontario for better academics and a better atmosphere for an education. I would hope ALL kids play a sport.
Second untruth. "2 tall players with ?a lot? of experience". One does have "a lot" of experience, as he's a 2 year starter. Only a scootyDude would call a freshman that came off the bench last year, someone with "a lot" of experience. When does a Senior 2 year starter and a Soph that came off the bench as a Freshman have a comparable "a lot of experience"? Only when someone is not knowledgeable and just bloviating.

You are constantly trying to split hairs and argue with others. If Ontario did not add them how did they get on the roster? Ontario added those kids to their roster. If they didn't they would not be there. I would agree that both those players had a lot of experience from last season. One started most of the year and the other had played important minutes in every games and had a higher average than a starter. I would agree, that is experience.

In another life you would say what we're doing here is discussing sports over a beer or two at a bar. A barber is the only one I know capable of splitting hairs.
High schools sports are not like college or professional sports. In college, players are TRULY "added to a roster" by spending millions on scouting and recruiting. Then they offer scholarships to the players they want to replace the ones that left that year. In Pro sports players are TRULY "added to a roster". Franchises draft player, sign free agents and undrafted players, give them money and out of twice as many players allowed on their rosters they select the ones to be "added to a roster".
At public high schools there are no scholarships to offer, recruiting is illegal, there is no draft, the athletes are not paid money....to be "added to a roster".
How did Ontario "add" those kids to their roster? Ontario didn't "add" them. Their families moved to Ontario for better academics and a better atmosphere to learn. As many do on a yearly basis. In this case 2 families that moved to Ontario had sons that went out for basketball. As did 32 other Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. No one that went out for basketball was cut, that's how they made a team. No one "added" them. If they couldn't shoot straight, there are a few of those on rosters now, they would have still made a team. Are 8th graders "added to a roster" when they make the Freshman team the next year? Are JV players "added to a roster" when they move up to Varsity the following season? Using your criteria 11 players were "added to the roster" of the varsity team this year at Ontario. Silliness.
There is a HUGE difference in "experience" between a Senior who's a 2 year starter and a Sophomore that came off the bench as a Freshman. One has a lot of experience, in comparison the other has a little bit of experience. The Sophomore will have MORE experience next year as a Junior and even MORE experience when he is a Senior AND a 2 year starter.
How is any of that "splitting hairs"? There's an obvious dichotomy. If you don't like to discuss sports, then don't. As long as you directly address me I will respond. By definition you would be doing the "arguing". I FIRST make a post NOT directed at YOU. THEN, YOU "split hairs" with what I've said. Which you are allowed to do.

scootyDude is the king of haters. Putting down 7th graders, being the first to mention his name on here. There isn't a person at Norwalk high school or that follows high school basketball in the area that doesn't know about H......y's misstep. How often were the Shelby football players talked about that sat out 30% and 40% of their season?
