Private Schools in weeks 13 to 15 (removing DI totals):
Wk 13 Semis Finals Winners 2016 11 7 4 3 2017 6 4 1 ?
Is this just a down year for private schools or did the competitive balance rules actually have an impact?

Yah, I was going to post something about this last week with 24 public schools and only 4 private schools in the semis. Only time will tell about CB, but it wont stop the whining about the private schools. Apparently if THEIR public school can't beat Central Catholic, the whole system is unfair. If it is so unfair, how have other public schools beaten them? Either CB worked or the publics did a better job at recruiting.... err..... I mean open enrollment than the privates did this year.

I'd say it was just a down year for some of the privates. CB has no impact on D1 which sees an all public school final. Honestly those D1 games could have went either way as they were so evenly matched. Akron Archbishop Hoban will be interesting as they were one of the teams to move up. I'm pretty sure they would have won D3 pretty easily this season. Playing Winton Woods is a bigger task IMO.

That would take some work to analyze or has this already been done somewhere?

Mooney did make it to the 2nd round in D4. Interesting thing I found when looking up schools was Kirtland enrollment pre CB would of been D5.

Big Hoss, That is interesting. Kirtland and Coldwater both dropped from D5 to D6 in 2017 and both play Maria Stein. Yikes!

Kirtland is tough. I think they will give ML a fight.

Congrats to Archbishop Hoban on the back to back to back state title by a nail biting 42-14 score.
(Seeing how quick this post gets ratted out)

To me it seems that CB might be working at least this year as only 1 private/parochial school is in the state finals. And since they won the D-2 title maybe they might be moved up a division next year. I do believe that since we started the playoffs and playing for a state title this might be the lowest number of private/parochial schools in a title game.

Time will tell whether or not this is competitive balance at work or a one year drought. In D1, it was just an unusual year. Competitive balance doesn't effect that division at all. Tonight's game surprised me a bit. I figured a team who beat Massillon and LaSalle would compete better than that. With the playoffs in the Shoe the last couple of years, I had forgotten the disadvantage that the teams from southern and western Ohio are at when the games are in Canton. Especially when the team they are playing is literally 20 minutes away.

I think we will have to give this a couple more years to find out if it is going to work or not. When does the state championship games start heading south and west. I know that sometime the games would be playing at Cincinnati. They have two stadiums down there that they could use at the same time, Paul Brown Stadium and Nipper Stadium at University of Cincinnati.
