Post junior high scores here.
Anyone know how they are doing the leagues/schedules at this level? Do they just follow the same divisions as the high schools or is there a different setup based on geography? (and if there is a difference, which system do the freshmen teams use?)

For the SBC the Willard freshman are playing same night as JV and Varsity when the opposing team has a freshman team. There are a few gaps in the Willard schedule where the freshman don't play because the schools we are playing don't have a freshman team, very few though. The 7-8 grade teams are not on the same school cycle as the high school, they bounce all over.

Norwalk 7 and 8 easily handled Willard according to someone that went to the game. It was at Willard if I'm not mistaken, too? Thought that 8th grade group was pretty good. Anyone know why the easy win for Norwalk? Were there any kids out for this game for some reason for Willard?

Willard's 8th grade team of last season might be the team you had heard good things about. They only lost 1 or 2 games all season. I was at the games yesterday. Norwalk had the better 7th grade team. Willard 7th grade team has a ways to go to be decent. Need to work on fundamentals. 8th grade the teams were more evenly matched, although I left at halftime and Norwalk was up by 6-7 points. Willard has some raw athletes on the court for sure,,more so than their 7th grade team... First game so I'm sure they'll improve. The current 8th grade team has some players. I hope they continue to improve. I heard Norwalk made some halftime adjustments and Willard did not, that was the difference in the 8th grade game.

Maybe Norwalk is just better? If Norwalk was leading at half like buckeyekid said, what kind of adjustments would they have had to make?

Tiffin 7th over Sandusky Tiffin 8th over Sandusky
Tiffin has some nice classes coming up. Sandusky's 8th is solid when everyone plays, didn't play with starting center or point guard last night. However, Tiffin has some players and kids who can shoot the ball.

Another team won all their games in the tournament by 15+. By the end of the 8th grade season they weren't nearly as dominate as they were at the end of the 7th grade. What I noticed about Willard's 8th grade team vs their 7th grade team. As 7th graders they had several kids 5-11 to 6-1. And used a very good trapping half court press, great coaching with athletic kids that size. 7th graders can't handle that kind of advanced trapping pressure. As 8th graders, other schools players grew more than Willard's players. A year older and another year of good coaching on how to beat the half court trap and they were beatable. I have no idea how they are as 9th graders.

This post is as accurate as any post I've seen regarding the difference between 7th and 8th basketball last year in Willard, very very astute of you Filmore.

The current 8th grade team has some players. I hope they continue to improve. I heard Norwalk made some halftime adjustments and Willard did not, that was the difference in the 8th grade game. In other words, it was the coach’s fault. Maybe Norwalk is just better? If Norwalk was leading at half like buckeyekid said, what kind of adjustments would they have had to make? No, I did not state it was the coach's fault but it is the coach's responsibility to make adjustments at halftime and it appears either their adjustments did not work or the kids did not listen to what the coach told them to do (both scenarios are possible). What I've saw over the last few years is they had a coach in the middle school that was really good at making adjustments, I think he has since moved to freshman or jv? The current 7th/8th graders were blown out in their first game and I don't remember that happening to them at all last year. As I stated, I hope they continue to improve. I'll try and catch a couple games over the next few weeks since I'm on vacation and I'll report back what I see.

As Fillmore alluded to, what may hurt the current Willard freshmen is that other kids are eventually going to catch up with them on size and athletic ability, which is partly why they were as good as they were in junior high.

Sandusky 7th over Willard by 25+ Sandusky 8th over Willard by 11
Willard 8th looks better, played better team ball, Willard bench very short due to unknown reasons (2 starters did not play and 6th man did not play), just out-manned by a more athletic team, optimism is my feeling after watching tonight
