Today, a local Willard student was kicked out of a JV game for yelling terrible call. Just asking for opinions on this matter. Should the student have been kicked out just for yelling terrible call?

A few years ago, a father was kicked out of a Norwalk @ TC game for yelling "You're Horrible!" at a referee after a series of bad calls. The other two refs even conferenced with the ref on the last call as the one saw something different.
That's all the father said. The ref was getting grief from many, but singled that father out and asked him directly, "What did you say?" The father calmly replied, "I said, you're horrible." At that point the ref called the TC AD over and told the Norwalk father he was out of there. The father couldn't believe it, nor could the others in the stands, as this father had never had an issue. He got up when the AD requested and left.
I've never been a referee. I don't imagine that I could do the job of a referee. And I certainly don't like personal attacks about referee looks or mannerisms. But sometimes, comments about the call are warranted.
I wonder if this ref had prior bad experiences with student sections and was trying to set the tone early?

The ref was a young girl who probably did not have a lot of experience, and yes the call was horrible. She had a series of bad calls. But the game was not close, I’m sure the student was just trying to get a few laughs out of his friends and did not expect the ref to take it so serious.

If a ref feels threatened, or feels the fan is becoming a distraction to the game--yes throw them out.

Good refs are taught to not react to fans and their words unless it is something that is threatening them. Just yelling terrible call, you're horrible isn't something they should react too. Unless it's non stop from same person then you tell AD you've heard enough.

Some officials deserve to yelled at about their officiating. The older & experienced refs know not to react to the fans unless they feel threatened. This younger group of officials haven't figured that out yet, And are paying too much attention to the fans, which they should not be. The younger officials tend to avoid the coaches, The older & experienced ones are good listeners to what the coaches have to say. A young female official is gonna have a huge ego, Like that lady official from Margaretta, that we have once in while. Women officials doing boys games, Seem like they have something to prove, for some reason. Just my observations of the officiating. I have never been in favor of 3 officials doing varsity games, 3 is too many opinions of how a game should be called, Please go back to 2, and save some money

My father worked the table as a scorekeeper at both boys' and girls' games for years. He got to know many of the referees well in that capacity, and then later as AD. One of his favorite referees was a man that commented to the scorers' table in jest at a time-out once, "I always know I'm calling a fair game when I hear from both sides of the crowd at equal volume." As AD, Dad would get after people in the stands if he felt they were crossing the line; he always felt it was part of the AD's job to be a visible presence at the game, and try to head things off before fans got carried away.
My favorite referees were two men in Sandusky. They would occasionally work Junior High games (to keep them on their toes - the one stated). At that age, we appreciated that they took the time to talk to our players and explain why they made a call, or what the player needed to do so he/she wouldn't get a repeat whistle. Those were some of the most valuable learning experiences - and, those players remembered those refs when they got to high school and saw them on a more regular basis. So did the parents.

If anyone yelled at me officiating a by God JV basketball game I’d have them deported. Officials are tough to come by these days. Jv game? Zip it. Save that stuff for March.

It wasn't the first time that's been done, nor will it be the last. BTW, it wasn't "nothing", it was something. Did you learn a lesson?

Who kicked the student out? The ref or a school admin? My son and his friends have been told by the principal that they are not to talk to referees or players from the other teams during the games or they will be kicked out. Refs are hard to find. The world is hard enough as it is without crazy people in the stands.

So "hard to get" that at the boys game at Harding tonight they played 6 minute quarters in the Freshman game and had the same 2 elderly gentlemen work both the Freshman and JV game. Their arses were dragging by the end of the JV game. Not blowing their whistles to keep the clock running and end their misery. I hope that was the case, as opposed to Harding being to cheap.

The student should have dealt with it properly. It's 2017, women deserve equal rights and lefts. 2. You're only kicked out if you stay out. There are plenty of seats in a gym. 3. Not since 2005 has there been a reason to argue a Willard call. It's not going to change the outcome. 4. If you're that upset, join NCoast and argue with old men over the call. Trust me, there's going to be one turd that will always take the opposing side. 5. If a ref really tosses someone over that, they may need to ask themselves if this is what they want to do. Refs are always going to get yelled at, period.

I don't yell at the officials anymore, Too much noise for them to here you, And it serves no point, Let the coaches do that. The NBA is too much like street ball, I only watch it in June, If the Cavaliers are still in the playoffs. The only time I watch college basketball, Is the NCAA tournament.

The world is hard enough as it is without crazy people in the stands. Fan ejections at the high school level are always done by the school administration. An official can NOT eject any fan, but he/she can have the trash removed by simply telling the site administrator. This is across the board in all NFHS sports. On occasion, I have made requests to the school AD, etc., to escort out someone who I felt needed to get an early start to beat the traffic.

I have always told my sons and the football team that I coached that they should never yell at a ref. that I would talk to them. Even if to me it looked like they may have got the call wrong I never yelled at the ref. on the field. Even when I'd played I never yelled at a ref. even when they called the foul on me, which was only a couple of times and was always for not having my mouth guard in. I always hated having things in my mouth that doesn't, at least to me, belong there. Now when I'm in the stands that's a different story. In reality I only yell at a ref. once in the stand and I shouldn't have cause he is a good friend of mine. Don't worry we still are good friends, I apologize to him later after I had calmed down. Maybe we should take a look in the eyes of them and see what all the stuff that they see before we start yelling at the refs.
