Obviously as a Steelers fan, I am biased. However, last night's MNF game was a rough one.
First, the Shazier tackle - Hopefully he will make a full recovery - it sounds as if he is regaining sensation and movement in the lower extremities. Certainly was a scary situation for all!
Then, Burfict suffered multiple "injuries" throughout the game. He'd leave and re-enter a few plays later until his "back injury" later in the game. How do you do that to your teammates? You want to win this game, yet you continue to take yourself out of play? I may be making too much of it, but his history as a player, does not allow me much room for doubt.
JuJu Smith-Schuster block - WOW! What a great block! He was protecting his runner. I did not see anything dirty about that hit at all. Yes - he deserved the penalty for taunting afterwards - but I can't fault him for that desire - considering it was Burfict. And now the league suspends him for one game - the same punishment as Gronkowski got for a late hit on an unsuspecting player. He was already penalized during the game for the taunting. Replays and breakdowns show that the block was not a dirty hit.
Does the media play a responsibility in building this rivalry up as the "NFL's nastiest game?" It seemed for a week prior, a different story was running each night about past nastiness, and will this game top?
Football is a violent game. There is no arguing a good hit can be a "clean" hit, yet still inflict damage. But that is the nature of the sport.

The hit wasn't "dirty" and several years ago it wouldn't have been a penalty. The rules have changed so you can't crack back on a player who doesn't see you coming. The rule was implemented mainly to protect offensive players after interceptions but it applied here. It is still inconceivable to me that someone can get fined or suspended for anything they do to Burfict. The man is a walking piece of garbage. I promise you that JuJu won't be paying that fine himself.

The Steelers and Bengals don’t really have a rivalry as the Bengals are inferior. Also, not sure if you’re a fan of Pittsburgh unless you moved from PA.

I didn’t. I think that was silly. At least it’s really my team though.

Great, you can have them. How many times this season did you go up to support YOUR team?

wouldn't you have to beat the Steelers for it to be a rivalry?

That’s correct. We don’t have a rivalry with right now. We do have more overall titles 8 to 6 but many think football started when they renamed championship game the Super Bowl.

And I think the Steelers have more titles than the pussycats because they were in the AFL till they merge with the NFL, I believe in 1970 maybe.

Do you get where I'm coming from.

Yes, when counting only NFL titles it's:
Steelers 6 Browns 4
and it's also:
Pittsburgh 6 Cleveland 6
Though those AAFC titles are still impressive, when you consider that the Browns were expected to struggle once they joined the NFL...and proceed to beat the defending champion Eagles 35-10 in their first ever NFL game, win the NFL Championship in their first season, and advance to the NFL title game in each of their first 6 years in the league, going 3-3. Would have been interesting to see how an AAFC-NFL world championship game would have gone had they played it from 46-49.

That could have been the one that started this whole Super Bowl stuff.

My oldest son and I both agree that the OC should be shot for his game calling and my son is a Pat's fan. That was the worst game I have seen on offence from Pittsburg in a long time. Also if you are still counting the 4 years the Fairies were in the AAFC they don't count because that league has been disbanded and now Cleveland is in the NFL, get that NFL. So it's Pittsburg 6, Cleveland 4 in NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

So it's Pittsburg 6, Cleveland 4 in NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Going strictly by what you wrote, Pittsburg has 0 But anyway, when comparing NFL titles between the Browns and Steelers it's 6-4 Steelers. When comparing overall titles between the Browns and Steelers it's 8-6 Browns. When comparing NFL titles between Cleveland and Pittsburgh it's tied 6-6 When comparing Overall titles between Cleveland and Pittsburgh it's 10-6 Cleveland.

Let's all agree that the battle between Cleveland and Pittsburg has always in the past produce some of the best action on and off the field. I can still remember the game where big old Jack Lambert pile driving the browns QB into the ground. Or the one where The Steel Curtain nearly ripped the head off the browns player. Some great games there. I forgot type in confuse at the beginning, my fault watching the Maryland at MICHIGAN game.

Or how about the 1976 game when Turkey Joe Jones planted Bradshaw? Or the 1975 game when Joe Greene stomped Bob McKay's groin? The Browns only won 4 of the 20 games during 1972-81 (the prime years of the Steel Curtain), but two came in years of Super Bowl wins (1976, 1980) and most were battles. It was still a major rivalry back then. I miss it.

Yes, that is true. I stand corrected. But my point was still valid. Those Steeler teams were Super Bowl caliber throughout the period but the Browns still gave them a good fight in most of the games, enough so that the fans on both sides viewed it as a rivalry.
