Although this is accurate, the value that Haraway brings to Norwalk may outweigh both of those two. I assume you are talking about Todd because Ontario graduated their point guard? Todd had very little varsity experience at point guard but will surely be missed. Is there any date for his return or will he sit the entire season? Cam Todd got quite a few minutes last year and has the ability to put up some points. He grew over the summer as well. He said to me early on he thought after Jan. In a speech last week he said he wasn't playing this year. I don't know. It remains to be seen what the kid from cc can and can't do. I realize what Haraway means, just pointing out to pw that The big O isn't exactly the experienced team it has been, the past few years. To bad for Todd. I figured he would be a valuable contributor this season but wondered why he did not get more minutes in reserve action, knowing the 3 senior guards were very solid last season.

Last year Ontario had 5 senior guards that played. Cam was given minutes in Varsity games for experience at that level for this year, since there were no Junior or Sophomore guards coming back this year who were more talented than Cam. He also played 2 or 3 quarters in most all JV games last year, to give him playing time.
In essence Ontario Varsity is playing with their 3rd and 4th string PGs. One a Junior that hasn't played since his Freshman year, the other is a Freshman. Also reducing Ontario's normal 9 player rotation to 7. The other starting Guard is a Soph transfer, that has never played in Balogh's system before. Thus, keeping his favored full court pressure to a minimum. The upside, another Freshman is getting varsity experience this year. A rarity for Balogh teams, three of four Freshman in his 33 years occurring in the past 2 seasons.

River Valley and especially Bucyrus could be two of the weakest Varsity basketball teams in Ohio. Not sure if Galion can beat another team in the league. Harding will shut down Alsip, just as Pleasant & Upper did until the 4th quarter. He could end up with some points but it will be vs Harding's bench. Galion has some talent but not so sure how good the coaching is or isn't. North Union, probably. Buckeye Valley, if Alsip catches fire, maybe......so I disagree.

Were you there? i wasn't very impressed with Ontario and expected it to be an easy win for them. NU gave them a good game and had a chance to wn it with 14 seconds left. Edit: I just saw you were at Galion-RV game. I have no idea why you'd think Ontario would win easily. I've tried to make it clear that this is the youngest team with the least experience in Balogh's 33 years. IMO the only reason they won their first 3 games is due to having the best coach in this part of the state. They're PG play has been below average. Their starting PG would be a Soph that was on varsity last year, but he's out for the season with a broken ankle. Thus a short Junior starts, that hasn't played basketball since his Freshman year due to a leg injury. He makes way too many turnovers for a PG and doesn't have an outside shot. The back up PG is a slender Freshman with a huge upside, but being a Freshman Balogh isn't ready to play him in crunch time YET. Their best ball handler isn't eligible until the 12 game. The best 3-point shooters aren't guards, it's their 6-7 and 6-4 forwards. Who led Ontario in scoring, both with around 12 points. Ontario will be much better next year and even better in 2 years. Ontario was down 3 at half time, down by as many as 5 in the 4th quarter, but up by 7 going into the last 4 minutes of the game. When NU pressure forced some turnovers, fouled to get the ball and Ontario didn't make foul shorts. If NU made their free throws in the first half they win this game easily. NU has a some nice looking young players. They should be a team to be reckoned with in their new league, the next couple of years at least. Ontario won the JV game 59-36, by far their best shooting night of the first 3 games. Freshman guard Colton Kurtz had 24. This was my first look at Ontario. And you guys (meaning a bunch of posters) hype them up all the time. Not that I care to open a debate with you Fillmore.

Harding won by like 7 I think it was. Hope Alsip is alright. Terrific scorer, needs to not force it like he was tho. Wasn’t a big factor in this game. Browley didn’t suit up. Wondering if season is over now or not. With him playing this team would be so much better. No go to scorer.

Galion jv scores 1 point in the second half. That was crazy to watch. Galion basketball might be in bad shape awhile, but Galion didn’t look like a terrible team. Played decent defense. Set some good screens on offense, could hit the 3 ball at times.

Turned the ball over and went for chase down block. But fouled Harding player, hit the deck along with other Galion player. Carried off to locker room. Could put some pressure on it. My guess is a sprained ankle.

He was playing D and a Harding player fell on him; specifically his right leg. He hobbled off (barely) under his own power. It appeared to be a problem with his ankle or lower leg. Other than that...........? ? ?

Ontario's biggest lead was 15 early in the 3rd quarter. Several Ontario starters got in foul trouble and BV cut the lead to 8. Ontario won the Freshman game 47-26. BV won the JV contest 52-46. Ontario went from 5 up to 1 down on a 6 point play in the 4th quarter by BV. Ontario never recovered.

And you guys (meaning a bunch of posters) hype them up all the time. Not that I care to open a debate with you Fillmore. You haven't been reading MY posts. Since Cam Todd's broken ankle in football, I posted that my educated guess was around a .500 record. Due in part to their Non-League schedule. Non-League games yet to play for Ontario; DI Mansfield Madison, DI until this year Mansfield Senior, Lexington, Bellevue, Shelby-undefeated thus far, Highland undefeated thus far, Mansfield St.Petes undefeated thus far, who lost in the Regional Finals last year by 1 point and has most of the team back. Most of the "hype" you've seen by others is due to Ontario's basketball history over the past 30 years. After my first look at MOAC teams and what I know about RV and Galion. It looks like a below average Ontario team by Balogh standards could compete for a MOAC title this year.

Pleasant may be the front runner. of course Ontario will be very close due to their incredible coaching and inspite of their untraditional lack of experience compared to the last 30+ years, in case anyone did not already know this.

Pleasant didn’t impress a lot , with the fouls they was getting and browley not playing and winning by 10 and close game most way through. If he played I think harding top 2 in league. Now I think they are probably 3-4 range. Don worstall teams always start slow and finish strong tho. Pleasant does play well balanced imo though. They get the job done and and do the little things.

"Big" as in wide? Maybe they have a couple of 6-1 250 football linemen playing this year

.....and it wasn't even "that" close. Hardings' JV put on a full court press with the score @ 10-9; and the rest, as they say, is history. Galion looked completely and totally inept against it. I hung my head for a little more than one complete half of this game. I took my wife to this game (and the varsity game). Paid 7 bucks a pop for the two of us to get in......to watch THAT. What was I thinking, you know, trying to be supportive of the Tigers; but, jeez ! ! ! Man, that hurt ! ! !

^^^ I only go to away games when we're decent, gtab. I don't want to waste my time/money watching that mess... What's your honest opinion of our high school coaching staff. You're the only other Galion fan here that goes to the basketball games. I've stated my opinion plenty of times. I'm just curious what you're seeing. You can pm me if you would rather do that.
