I wonder if Vermilion was ever contacted to be in instead of Black River.

Firelands isn't going anywhere but with the other seven schools they intend to form a new league with. This didn't happen overnight. Surprisingly, it's news to everyone (including me) now though. Curious if everyone dotted their i's and crossed their t's. If not, the superintendents and boards of education may halt AD's and/or principal's hopes. It's different at each school.
If all comes to fruition, I would think Vermilion was in the loop based solely on their AD and Firelands AD being brothers. That's not to say there was traction from any schools about them joining or them even being interested although I have always believed that's the group they wanted to join. Maybe a 10 teamer down the road with Vermilion and Edison or Huron? Doubtful but thought I'd throw that out there.

Edison a distant possibility, but I think Huron is dug too deep in SBC history to leave, at least in the near future. Also, I get the feeling that that the Milan contingent of the Edison family has a little bit more pull than their Berlin Hts. sibling, and I'm thinking the Milan contingent wants to stay where it is.

I don't see Edison or Huron going anywhere. In this situation where they have the "perfect" 8, Firelands will stand pat, and they wouldn't be letting Vermilion in even if they wanted to jump (especially knowing Vermilion's recent history).

Vermilion would gain nothing other than saving on some gas by joining this league. The SBC is heads and shoulders above (except Softball) in terms of competition in the majority of sports.

If the PAC had ever offered the Sailors a spot or this new Lorain County conference, I believe they would join in a heartbeat. Don't discount saving gas as a major incentive. That is the whole reason the PAC is dissolving. Second, I don't know what you mean by nothing to gain, Vermilion would be in the mix for conference championships most years. Vermilion, Clearview, Firelands and Columbia would battle every year (In football). Vermilion is getting better and I think Firelands comes back down to earth a little bit. Vermilion and Clearview went back and forth over the last 6 years. Why drive to OH or PC if you can drive to Lorain or Oberlin? Remember, Conferences really only matter in football. In all the other sports you can schedule a lot of OOC games to boost competition that your conference may lack if you are trying to prepare for the Post-season. In football you need to win conference games just to make the post-season.

It sounds like they were afraid of Vermilion.

It sounds like they were afraid of Vermilion. I don't know about that. Maybe they (Lorain County Schools) had good relationships with Black River and just wanted to keep as much the same as possible.

I know most of these schools were all at one time in the Lakeland Conference. Black River at one time was in the Firelands Conference but I just for the life of me remember what conference Columbia was in. Are they gonna call it after the old Lakeland Conference or are they calling it The Lorain County Conference.

Thanks birchbarlow: I just for the life of me couldn't remember what conference they was in, but when you mention Inland Conference that brought back the memory. That was a good little conference to.

I was wondering if anybody from the schools that play Black River in football, are they still dirty players like they where back in the late 60's early 70's. Some of the stories I could tell you guys from when my school played them.
