It's official after tonight! Broc baldridge knowing he was gonna be ineligible quit the team and the flashes lost big to port Clinton! Will not win again thsi year Grades? Sorry, haven't been following. I’m hearing that it had to do with the Senior Project. How can a kid become ineligible for a subject that is not mandated by the state of Ohio as a requirement for graduation. If challenged the school and CD don’t have the right to keep a kid from graduating because they do not do it or pass it, it won’t hold up in a court of law. Curious why a contract wasn’t signed to let him play since it isn’t a mandated course requires by the state of Ohio to graduate?

Oh great, let’s dive deeper into a high school kids grades, courses he’s taking, personal life, anything else? Does he have a criminal record maybe we can talk about that too? Any speeding tickets?

All I’m saying is if it were due to the Senior Project the kid deserves to be able to sign a contract to play because it is not a state mandated course for graduation. He is a great kid and for this to happen to him and the program in his senior year and the coaches first year is disheartening to see.

I agree with moneyball, why do we need to hold a student-athlete accountable to a school assignment to be able to play a sport. Specially when he can help the team win games. Why do we need to teach our kids responsibilities and accountability? Just let them play. These new coaches just don’t get it.

I understand your point Money, but Senior project is a semester long class. It's a school mandate yes and it takes effort but there are people to help you along. It encourages students to pick something they are passionate about that they would be interested in discussing and putting time into. Some kids do a great job and others just the bare minimum. I agree it's very unfortunate to say the least as it impacts numerous people. It boils down to life skills and following protocol to a certain degree. Life is tough after HS and we get jobs and maybe go on to college if we are lucky enough,,numerous things along the way that aren't fun, but are required by that body. Priorities and life lessons, some things that are more important than playing a sport.

If your child gets straight As all through High School and they don't pass the Senior Project, they don't graduate? Responsibility is the administration putting in REQUIRED courses for graduation. Life lesson to the kid is life isn't fair and there are times where the AD and Principal will let the kid sign a contract, regardless of whether it is basketball, swimming, choir or a play (I don't have a clue why some do get to sign them and some don't. A teacher posted on here a while back that she would not support one of her students signing a contract to play football and she was overwritten by the admin???). I'm saying if it is based SOLELY on a course not mandated by the State of Ohio for graduation, and they get to continue working towards completion, they should be able to sign that contract to continue to participate in extracurricular activities, regardless of what it is. I would be giving the same argument if the lead in a play were going through the same issue.

Fairness across the board is the issue. One kid should not be able to sign a contract based on opinions of the admin then, it should be all or none. One F on any mandated course and no participation, that is the lesson.

How about we ask who was the football player that failed English was not going to be allowed to play his Senior year, teacher would not allow a contract and Jeff Ritz over road it! Was it because his family is an affluent part of the community? Would this be discrimination? I think if we look a little deeper we can see the lies being told in our board and administration.

so Dude let me ask you this. What your saying is that we should turn a blind eye depending on the kid? Because they did not hold another kid or two accountable and that is unfair practice. There is a lot of unfairness in Willard City Schools...A rule is a rule so if we hold Baldridge accountable I hope every person on this board is paying attention to this post because in the future this will be written as proof that they held broc accountable and under no circumstance should there be a variance for anyone else , including those who feel there donations to the schools gain them an advantage!

Broc did pass this years SR project. He informed his coach Thurs that he was done and his project was finished a couple weeks ago.Trust me I could go on and on on the Sr projects. I've had many discussions with board members in the past and the ones I've talked with agree that they are silly. Most teachers do too. For some reason there are a select few in the district that are controlling the deal and those I've talked with don't understand why the minority is winning this one.

This is an interesting post because if you ask members of the board they say they want to get rid of it and if you ask ritz and smith they want to get rid of it. Someone is obviously lying.

If you look at the number of kids withdrawing from the school district because "certain people" want to make their mark in life you will find a tight group of people supporting one another. As far as the school board they work for Ritz who is tight with Smith (curriculum director) The chain of command is school board governs superintendent not the other way around but Rothhaar got it right when he said "the people made the right decision on putting cok and danhoff back on the board" why is that? I would have to say because they can count on ritz dominating the decisions because all those on the board are not capable of making decisions

moneyball...they don't want to get rid of it...how do you justify a school this size paying a curriculum director her salary when Willard has a d rating...in the real world if we performed as those involved with Willard schools we would be fired....rumor has it cok was let go at drug mart for "inappropriate behavior" so if these are the people making decisions for kids how can we expect anything decent when their morals in their personal life are bad

Not to jump into the middle of the Willard school board discussion but just seeing the one comment on "don't understand why the minority is winning this one." That's society of today. The sheep mentality states that the minority of one rules. No one has to be responsible but instead coddled.

bsports...that is true....our society is so afraid to admit that we are failing and have made poor choices out of fear of being held accountable...Willard schools are promoting no tolerance for bullying but I recently heard about the kid who moved to sc and the teacher who sent an email bad mouthing the kid..hes still getting paid tax dollar money to teach and coach...we have an apathetic society....how can kids graduate and be anything other than what they were raised with....teachers and coaches spend a great deal of time "mentoring" our kids and yet when they get an attitude we punish them...Willard schools has a double standard...kids get punished but not teachers or coaches.....WHY? there are a lot of great teachers and coaches..many need to be recognized for their efforts but at the same time weed out the bad apples that are spoiling it for the rest

As wyandot stated, a few dictating what happens because no one wants to stand up and demand that our leaders have morals and integrity any longer. When they do stand up and fight someone calls it drama or they are persecuted for it.

It doesn't have to be a state-mandated course for him to fall ineligible for not completing it. The school district definitely has the right, granted to it by ODE, to add in its own graduation requirements. This looks like excuse-making and desperate deflection from a kid's laziness. It's still a course, still carries a grade, no different than electives.

bballfrenzy facts are facts...the problem is the administration refuses to acknowledge what the issues are...people have complained...its been printed in the news...people are frustrated because nothing changes so they move their kids out of Willard...that doesn't solve anything...what we need to happen is we need for every single person to put it in writing and address it..the administration cannot ignore a written document...they can and have ignored meetings and assured the concerned that they are dealing withit...as someone stated in a previous post maybe the discipline is not severe enough because it hasn't changed the accused behavior.

There is no reason a superintendent should be making classroom-level decisions that overrides a teacher holding a student accountable. 2.) Is one failed class enough to be considered ineligible @ Willard? If so, then it was this Jeff Ritz that did this student a disservice allowing him to "sign a contract" and play. Never heard of such a thing anywhere else. 3.) Teachers aren't required to sign a contract allowing a student to play in case of a failing grade, for what I hope are obvious reasons. The contract itself is ridiculous, and indicative of a lot of what's wrong with public schools today, especially in this area. Why not just call your teachers "teenager-sitters?" It's the same damn thing, and you could pay them less, like many seem to want to. 4.) "Blatant discrimination" based on what? Honestly, I can't quite tell what angle you're coming from - maybe I'm not arguing with you by this post, maybe I am. As for Sr. projects, this is another eye-roller for me. The ODE and the State have set the bar for our education standards ridiculously low, and I can't count how many parents I've met or read in comments here and elsewhere that are fanatical about having their child only do what's "mandated" by the state, i.e., the barest of bare minimums. God forbid an educator set in front of your child something academic and intellectual they can accomplish only by hard work and sacrifice, but "hard work" and "sacrifice" are things these same people will preach all day about when it happens on the court or the ball field.
