How special would it be to see Clear Fork make the change to a new league and win both football and basketball titles.

Northmor 69 Galion 65 Final
Galion had a 1 point lead with about 30 seconds left and just couldn't hang on. Northmor did not impress me at all. They're really tall but I don't think they're as good as they think they are. I don't know about the competition they'll play in the tournament but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make it out of districts. I don't think they could win the MOAC. Beat Pleasant by 1 in the first game of the season. Maybe they were just looking past Galion but I wasn't impressed.
Alsip scored 27. Shot the ball really well. Took some bad shots as always but he was making them today.

How did Harding play? What was the score when they resumed play? Just curious because Galion plays them Saturday.

Galion players have to feel pretty good about taking the #9 ranked team in D3 right down to the wire.

Bishop Ready (#1 in AP Poll) and Harvest Prep (#2 in AP Poll) were both undefeated coming into this week. Ready just lost their first game at Wellington, who has made the State Final 4 the last two years in D4 and is the only team to come within 10 points of beating Harvest Prep all season. Not to mention Africentric, who plays in the Columbus City League against D1s and D2s all the time. Throw in other traditionally tough schools like Newark Catholic and Worthington Christian and it wouldn't surprise me if Northmor didn't even make District Finals.

It was a "waist" only if the team had become pork butts after the school year.

Galion was above average the other night, taking on Northmor. I think what ultimately led to the Tigers defeat was the play of Johnson (#23). He, when under control and not trying to bulldoze his way right down the lane for a layup, continually sliced right past Galions' guards. Alsip wasn't playing much D and the other guard(s) were not very effective in trying to stop him.
There's one thing that we don't seem to see much of anymore (at least from Galion), and that's the dribble drive. It seems to be all about shooting 3's and, when not hitting on those 3's, it's grab a board (when not boxed-out) and trying to shoot amongst the trees down low. A strong post move would just about blow me away, as would a nice entry pass from outside. It seems like the post player wants to play with his back to the basket more often than not.......
At any rate, the Tigers almost nailed it down; but not quite. In "crunch time", Northmor knows how to take a game. Galion is still learning.
Frustration runs amok in my household............sigh.

Ontario really struggles shooting 3-pointers this year. Thus it has been a point of emphasis to get the ball into their post players and/or dribble drive to the basket by ALL players. When driving to the basket, if you don't make a 2-pointer, then half the time you get fouled and shoot free throws. And Balogh is a HUGE proponent of and won a lot of games, with players shooting 3-pointers.
Post players playing with their back to the basket can be a huge advantage with a height advantage or well used physicality,. As long as the player has a variety of post moves. If the post player can't establish deep position, then step out a little to get the ball, turn and face the basket and put the ball on the floor for a couple of dribbles to get by the defender to the basket.
My issue is that 90% of post players would rather shoot 3-pointers than score in close to the basket. It's much easier to chuck up 3-pointers than develop good post moves. Watch pregame warm ups, everyone is shooting 3 pointers. Why aren't post players warming up by practicing shots close to the basket?

Alsip does not usually play much D. Also, Galion does not make entry passes to the post much but #33 has made some nice post moves this year when he has the ball on the block. "Frustration runs amok in my household"- Do you have family on the team? Or does this have nothing to do with basketball?

GT 56 BC 53 Final
We won't play a team as bad as Buckeye Central for the rest of the season and if we play like this, we won't win a game the rest of the season.

Nope........no "family", just a lot of extremely good memories of various Galion basketball teams from 40+ years ago. I've always followed them, even when I was in the service; taking the Inquirer (back when it was printed 6 days a week). Back then, I'd look forward to mail call and get a whole slew of papers to read in my off time (way, way, way before "e-mail" and the internet). It usually took about three weeks (and sometimes four) for us to even get snail mail.

I can't remember a time when the whole program was as bad as it is now and it starts at the top with a Varsity coach that IMO isn't cutout for the job. Not only do I think our Varsity team is not playing up to their potential but he is the reason a lot of freshman did not play this year and the reason a lot of middle schoolers say they may not play in high school. Also, Thank You for you service.
