Zach Smith's coaching career at The Ohio State University is in immediate peril.
My guess he will get the boot before the week is over.
Today's press report that his ex-wife has been granted a new protection and the story goes into more detail of documented abuse.
Today's disclosure that abuse claims lodged against him were, in fact physical abuse, the most recent of which occurred in 2015, gets him booted out the door.
Anyone have thoughts on this latest disclosure?

I blame JT Barrett. Poor Zach has been coaching his jack wagon off and nothing to show for it because the Buckeyes had a shell and mortar instead of a passing offense for 4 years. The pressure finally got to poor Zach.

ESPN Story: ZACH SMITH FIRED AT 6 PM MONDAY
Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer
Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer fired assistant Zach Smith on Monday, days after an Ohio judge deemed him an imminent danger to his ex-wife.
Smith was charged with criminal trespassing after dropping his children off at the home of his ex-wife, Courtney Smith, against her wishes in May. Zach Smith appeared in court last week for a pre-trial hearing that was rescheduled to Aug. 3. Days later, Courtney Smith requested and was granted a personal protection order that requires her ex-husband to stay 500 feet away from her.
College football reporter Brett McMurphy reported Monday two prior domestic assault accusations against Zach Smith that occurred in 2009 and 2015. Ohio State announced the decision to terminate Smith at 6 p.m. Monday.
Meyer is scheduled to speak to reporters at Big Ten media days Tuesday morning in Chicago.
Zach Smith's attorney Brad Koffel, when speaking to ESPN on Monday prior to Smith's dismissal from the program, said the protection order against his client was "clearly retaliatory."
"She wants to ruin Zach's career," Koffel said.
Zach Smith did not answer when called for comment.
The prior domestic assault accusations against Smith occurred while he was on Meyer's staffs at Florida and Ohio State. Smith was arrested in 2015 on a felony count of domestic violence after an incident that resulted in unspecified injuries and showed evidence of sustained abuse, according to McMurphy's report. Smith's attorney said he was not aware of the 2015 charge.
Smith, the grandson of former Ohio State head coach Earle Bruce, coached wide receivers and was the Buckeyes' recruiting coordinator. Ohio State said it will announce his replacement at a later date.

Although it is not official yet, all indications are Brian Hartline is the interum WR coach.

McMurphy reports that Smith was arrested in 2015 in Powell, OH, yet the Powell police report they have no record of an arrest being made.

McMurphy reports that Smith was arrested in 2015 in Powell, OH, yet the Powell police report they have no record of an arrest being made. Wonder how that was concealed. UFM said they attempted to research that and came up with nothing. The past year, many have gotten the notion that they were moving away from Zach and would not have been displeased if he would have found a position elsewhere. Despite being the longest employed staff member, he was the lowest paid. No matter what the slant may be on this, it is unfortunate timing, this close to the season opener.

With all of the new information coming out on this, I don't think that Urban will still be coaching this team come the beginning of the season.

The reporter with all the inside scoops is a known Ohio State hater/Big Ten hater. Why doesn’t he release the text messages? Why hide them? Also SEC media personalities like Brando are on twitter laughing it up and saying bye bye Urban. Very fishy.

Fresh off her driving a spear in the heart of her Ex, getting him canned (as I think he deserved), she is emboldened with her new found power and vindictiveness, not content with Urban firing her Ex. She has fire in her eyes and smells blood.
Fact of the matter, she filed a complaint, but for whatever reason, made the decision to not go through with charges and Powell police department failed to make a record of it. Had charges been filed, Zach would have been gone in a heartbeat. Her lack of resolve was very apparent, now she's trying to blame everyone else? Within hours of hearing the allegations, Urban kicked Smith out of the program. Those that are so quick to infer some kind of culpability by Urban Meyer is utterly ridiculaous. I don't think this is going anywhere.

In a video interview published by the sports network Stadium, Courtney said she did not tell Shelley Meyer or any of the other coaches' wives about physical abuse from Smith until 2015, after she and Zach were legally separated. From that point forward, Courtney said she remained in touch with Shelley, though she said Shelley did not ever tell her that she told Urban about what Courtney had told her. Courtney was also the major player in convincing authorities to seal all documents in order to keep things concealed and continue Zachs employment and income and the bolster the fragmented families finances. Courtney knew full well, if Urban found out this outrageous pattern of abuse that was occurring, Urban would fire him on the spot! To suggest Urban Meyer should be fired for not acting on something he was not aware of is ridiculous!

If u think Shelley and the coaches wives knew but Urban didnt u r a flaming retard. Go kill urself. The inquiry won't rely on heresey. This 'flaming retard' says PROVE IT! Urban is in good spirits and fully supports the decision to place him on paid administrative leave, while they investigate allegations....stating: "I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter."

The mere idea that Urban Meyer wasn’t fully aware of Zach Smith’s long standing issues is comical. Taking away the wives txt’s and her interview. You still have a situation that’s produced nearly a dozen police visits along with a civil protection order. You can also add in Smith’s latest charge of trespassing. Urban Meyer is the most powerful man in Columbus next to the governor. Do you honestly think he didn’t know anything? Nobody clued Urban in that one of his coaches had major issues? Urban is aware of every major and minor issue his program has. Urban will resign soon and Ohio State will go find another coach and life will go on.

In today's PC environment, I fear that Meyer is toast. Where's Tressel at these days? Maybe he could help Meyer get another job.

Is the message we are sending, assault your wife and get your boss fired?

I don't expect something as extreme as job termination. Amazing how so many of you are willing to turn your scorn towards Urban Meyer, when the evil eye should be cast upon the lack of action by law enforcement and the prosecutors office and the lack of resolve to file charges by the victim. Ohio State will not dispense the greatest coach in Ohio State history for a 'shoulda done more, even though there was no charges brought against his assistant coach'. Count me on the side of giving our coach the benefit of the doubt and unwilling to participate in this public lynching. Expect perhaps, some disciplinary measures to be invoked for procedural indiscretions.

I'm amazed how a domestic issue between 2 people could be used to fire others. Should every boss be fired who has an employee who possibly assaulted their spouse? Should every boss monitor the private life of their employees 24/7? If you are a job supervisor and your wife tells you that your team leader punched their spouse do you fire the employee or call the cops even if the spouse did nothing?

Dead Man Walking
Urban on the 2015 allegations, "Who makes this stuff up?" ROFL!! NO ONE MAKES THIS STUFF UP MORON! This isn't 1983.
Unbelievable hubris. Over a crappy position coach that everyone who met couldn't stand. Seriously. You stand in a room with Zach Smith for 5 minutes and your skin starts to crawl. The kid is human garbage.

Texts from Shelley Meyer that she was afraid of Zach. But Urban was totally in the dark. It is hilarious what you sycophants will believe. Nepotism FAIL at it's finest.

The kid is human garbage. So my honest question is should Smith have been fired for being a bad coach or for your personal opinion of being human garbage? NOW, if it is discovered that Meyer actively covered up the assault and participated in hiding it, then he is no better than the accused.

Who the f do you figured put her across the table from a lawyer to pressure her into dropping the charges genius? Oh and when did beating the crap out of your wife become a "domestic issue"? Oh, and when you are employed by a school or university you are actually required to report instances of abuse to the authorities not to protect the abusers.

Urban sent his goon lawyer special assistant to Courtney to convince her to not press charges. Why would he do that if he didn't know anything? The goon told her to not press charges and that Zach was drunk and wouldn't hit her again.
You think the goon told her all of this then didn't relate the details of their conversation to Urban?
C'mon man.

Oh, and when you are employed by a school or university you are actually required to report instances of abuse to the authorities not to protect the abusers. Calm down snowflake. I never heard anything about a lawyer at a table pressuring her. In her interview she says her ex-husbands family pressured her not to file. Domestic issue is just the general term I use to incorporate any type of abuse, physical or mental, since I was not present to witness it. I'm not saying nothing happened and I agree 100% that any person who "beats" their spouse should be punished to the full extent of the law. I also believe any victim of assault should file charges against their abuser.
