What happened between Bellevue and Huron? Both started playing each other again for a few years, and now, Huron won't touch them with a 10 ft pole? What gives? Apparently Huron told Bellevue to call them when they have soccer, which makes little sense and is a weak excuse for dropping them.

the offer for those schools was there already. problem is PC is the only one that will play Bellevue (week 1 2019). Huron, edison, Oak Harbor and Vermilion wont touch Bellevue with a 10 foot pole. And whats worse, if they do its weeks 1-3 and not 4 and 5. I wonder if the offer was there for all four; Ashland, Madison, Mansfield, and Lexington. Or were we trying to bust it up with 2 of the 4. Land all four and take Fremont Ross. Football by size and other varsity sports by other factors and middle school by location. Draw it up and sign!

Here is the reality of Lake and possible big Bay Schools. Bumping more schools down where we could have 10 in any of the 3 divisions. Lexington having option to trade with smallest lake if they would like. The only future I see for SBC deals with the above schools when considering Lake and Bay divisions.

There is a money factor involved in the decision making process with travel expenses. A big reason why Sandusky didn't accept the TRAC invitation and I am glad they didn't because they couldn't compete in that league anyway.

That is why Travel would only be varsity/jv football. Other sports would have their own leagues and divisions, based off present ties and location. Football is the only problematic sport for scheduling and enrollment numbers. Alot of other conference sports like wrestling only meet once at one location for varsity and once for middle school conference. Basketball and other sports don't have the disparity based off numbers.

Moving Bellevue and Perkins down is essentially the original SBC. Ain't happening.
Madison is the only one who applied or expressed interest. Much discussion amongst SBC who other school would be, if there was even interest from the others. Some wanted Lex, some wanted Senior and some wanted Ashland. All for naught.
Last word was OCC was finally moving forward with Dover and New Philly or not so much?

I'm sure those would be fine. But that being said and you are right then you are stuck. No sense in talking about it. There is no other solution. The league enlarged with divisions based on no forced crossover football games. Unless you know of some schools north of Sandusky your gonna have to travel some where to add bigger schools. *I don't think a 4 school invite happened. Need to try or just live with current situation.

Your right about sandusky and trac, too tough.Streaknation I get so much grief for being showing support for fremont BUT fremont is smallest city in trac conference even oregon has more They get 60 kids yearly football. So they play bigger comp.theyl be last place or near. In 2010 when gbc failing ross's former AD bucci applied for nol before trac formed, nol voted no,and fremont joined trac or independent. While sandusky was approved by nol. Last year fremont applied for sbc, turned down. Fremont's AD Chad Berndt said in paper, they wont apply anymore unless sbc has change of heart.Try to compete in football best they can.Berndt said fremont plays sbc lake schools in other sports.fwiw.

while SBC lake schools city population is Sandusky 24,800 and declining steady, while Norwalk has 16,800 some and rising steady, than tiffin has low 17,000's while Bellevue has 7,996 and Clyde has 6000.So from population standpoint Fremont would rank in middle in 4 th,while tiffin ,norwalk, and Sandusky bigger .Something to think about ! City populations don't mean much though, you have to go by the school district population to make this type of comparison more accurate. These numbers are from the 2010 census: SD pop - School (City pop) 29,725 - Fremont (16,734) 25,770 - Sandusky (25,793) 22,434 - Tiffin (17,963) 19,063 - Norwalk (17,012) 13,351 - Bellevue (8,202) 13,717 - Perkins (0) 12,871 - Clyde (6,325) Population of Perkins Twp is 11,746

Also Marion Harding and schools in and around Lorain and Elyria. .

And Bellevue has played West Holmes the last two years. There are some non-OCC schools who get those games ahead of the SBC - Shelby being one of them.
Being in a league with someone is MUCH different than playing them in out of conference games for a lot of reasons, including those outside of football.

Apparently Huron told Bellevue to call them when they have soccer, which makes little sense and is a weak excuse for dropping them. If that is true then good for Huron! This makes perfect sence. Bellevue won't offer soccer because it would even the playing field. Pull 30 athletes out of the school that would rather play soccer (like the other schools their size do) and see where Bellevue's football team stacks up? It's not a weak excuse. Bellevue chooses to not offer soccer to protect their football program. Huron chooses not to play Bellevue to protect their football program.

Population of Perkins Twp is 11,746 Yes, though the population of cities within the Perkins School District is 0. The point of using the numbers I did was to show why using city populations alone doesn't work that well for the type of comparison Nelson was making. It fails to include people who live in unincorporated areas (such as the entire Perkins district), or to count other municipalities inside a multi municipality district (such as the village of Green Springs being part of the Clyde district), or to take into account the sections of some cities that are in a different school district than the rest of the city (like the part of Norwalk that is in the Edison District)

Well aware, Madison(Mansfield) isn't a city either. Ontario used to be Springfield Twp School District, before it incorporated to keep from being annexed by Mansfield. Who wanted to get their hands on the General Motors plant.

Bellevue chooses to not offer soccer to protect their football program. Huron chooses not to play Bellevue to protect their football program. No football offensive or defensive linemen play soccer. Very few LB or TE types play soccer. Would you rather be a QB, TB, WR or DB and play in front of 3000 people on a Friday night or 100-200 people on a Wednesday afternoon? Soccer does not adversely affect the quality of a football program, other than having 20 fewer kids standing on the sideline cheering and only playing when there's a running clock. Most soccer players at smallish schools are the 5-6 140 kids who don't like to hit or be hit. ALSO, soccer is a sport for guys whose mommy's won't let them play football. They can do something other than playing in the marching band.

Huron is soft, they fit perfectly with other bay teams who don't wanna play anyone bigger or anyone that might be better than them, those teams include, OH, Vermilion, and Edison. Don't feed me the Norwalk line because Norwalk has been bad under McFarland except for the breck turner years. Now though, if norwalk can continue to win, they won't have many bay teams trying to play. Also, if you think soccer hurts football programs, you are misguided. I feel bad you actually think soccer would hurt a football program, it'll hurt cross country more than anything.

Filled both weeks 4 and 5 this week. Good to hear but who are the schools? I see Thurgood Marshall and Belmont on Arbiter - both Dayton Public Schools. Ridiculous IMO that the Fliers have to play those two. No gate if it's home and travel is uncalled for. I just can't understand why Huron is traveling to Roger Bacon next year when schools in similar size and in the same conference would play them. It's not like Huron can't compete. It's unnecessary strain on the kids and parents for even needing to make travel arrangements for an 8-hour round trip getaway. These are exactly the examples why I believe something will have to give in the next few years. It's not sustainable. This is the result of watering down schedules to make the postseason. Smaller local teams won't play because they can schedule cream puffs to feel good. Clyde shoulda known this was gunna happen with the new league set up anyway.

Week 4 home against Dayton Thurgood Marshall. Week 5 on the road at Dayton Belmont. DPS play their games at Dayton Welcome Stadium. Welcome Stadium was notorious for being a death trap field that felt like you were playing on concrete. Have not been there in many years so wonder if they finally redid that place. Both teams are comparable to playing Toledo City League teams.
