The Lady Red cut down the nets Friday night after clinching their 9th straight conference title I realize I run the risk of upsetting Bellevue fans, but is cutting down the nets necessary? There are bigger fish to fry and after winning 9th straight, you slap 5s and go about your continued business.

It gives the kids a sense of accomplishment, in that, the 1st goal has been reached. They're only "frying fish" until they run in to Rogers...not that losing in the Regional Finals is a bad thing...just sayin', so let them enjoy the moment. What they've done is really QUITE special, and unprecedented. Haas and Falknor each had GREAT runs and the Bellevue girls have lapped both of them.

I guarantee 20 years from now when they look at the piece of net they cut down in their homes it will be worth it

Also, while it's 9 straight for the program, think of the individual girls who may being cutting those nets down for the first time.
Immagine being a girl growing up watching the Lady Red cut down those nets every year since you were in 3rd grade, always saying "I can't wait till I'm on the team and have a chance to earn the right to do that".....and then once you finally get that opportunity you're told "nah, we're not doing that anymore, we have bigger fish to fry"

Then, I guess you do everything you can to cut down the Regional nets. I wonder how many stellar programs do this? Because many stellar programs aren't all that concerned about conference!/ League "success."

"The kids shouldn't have fun!"
When I graduated, Shelby boy's track had won 8 of the previous 11 NOL titles (and 9 of 11 if you somehow overlook a uniform infraction that led to a DQ). When we were seniors, we clinched that 8th of NOL title in the league meet with around 3 events left. We were dominant. Maybe not as specifically talented like the Whechter twins, but we had depth in every single event. We would win NOL dual meets by 100 points. Point is: we wanted to take that District trophy home (we didn't), but we still relished whooping on every other NOL school. League opponents are the ones that you see from sport to sport. In track, my friend would point out someone he tackled in football as he lined up in the 4x200, or I would point out someone who Shelby took down in basketball with ease. There is unquestionably pride in that. Sure, the only thing stopping us from winning a league title involved our bus careening into a ditch, but that absolutely doesn't take away from some of the giddiness we had.

"The kids shouldn't have fun!" I'm all for pizza and soda after a game let alone winning one conference title or nine.

Then why is there questioning of a league title and cutting down nets? It's needless.
Who is so mentally unfocused on a team with the discipline to crush it with a brutal schedule during the regular season and win a 9th league title in a row that the act of net cutting is not only boring, but also potentially taking away from the effort of going to the final four? What is going on here?

I guess I'm old-school in this regard. Again, I realized my take wasn't going to be popular.

Name one varsity basketball team, boys or girls, that didn’t cut the nets down after winning the conference title To be honest, I don't know. I admit I don't go to many basketball games as I did, but during title winning moments, I don't recall a ladder being used. Anyways, you're telling me area schools that have reached Columbus cut down vnets after winning conference title?

For the record, I'm not totally against the practice. But after 9 in a row, and Columbus isn't the end result, it tells me you simply dominate a weak/ER conference.

Feltner girl isn’t even good, their best bet is Crawford. She can only do so much to carry the team, she definitely has the talent to. Crawford is continuously getting better, can’t wait to see how much she progresses throughout the year. Has to be a Bellevue fan...Bellevue still pressing with their starters in with 2 minutes left in the game up by 20...Classy! First real pressure Willard has seen all year with a young group they will be fine and Feltner is a great player apparently you have never seen her play! Feltner girl not good. Lol. 😂😂😂😂. Best I’ve heard in awhile.

Jake: If you were truly "old-school" then you'd know, or remember, that teams cut down the nets when they win a league championship. It's tradition, and without getting in your grill, I don't remember very often that it DIDN'T happen. What bothers me, a little, is that the practice of doing so on the road has been eliminated. In our days of yore, there was a gentle(wo)manly agreement to allow the visitors to do so....not running right out the door and stealing a ladder from the janitor's closet before the echoes of the final buzzer faded, but 5-10 minutes later. The OHSAA and every other agency with 3 or more letters preach about sportsmanship and fair play and respect the game, but yet this little gem goes unnoticed. I never saw so much as a breath of discontent back then. If I were coaching, I'd make my kids (who lost) stand and watch the "ceremony" as fuel to have it be "us" on the ladder next season....but again, I'm old.

my take on cut the nets... there are no guarantees! some nights nothing goes right... and another team gets hotter than a fire cracker.. winning a league title should NEVER be taken for granted. and should be celebrated each and every time... Once had a former SBC league ring leader say to me that he was glad to see edison win a girls vball title because he was tired of seeing the same team win it over and over and over... I said, its the same team, but a different group of kids each time. Its as important to them as it was the past 9 teams. So the teams that win multiple titles should celebrate every single one like it might be there last... Jake,, a team that wins 9 straight league titles perhaps in a weak league of that sport is still an accomplishment. the Fact they won 9 straight league titles with a different cast of students is quite an amazing feat if you ask me. What Bellevue girls have done deserves our respect. and I applaud them for it. So cut the nets down ladies, you deserve it! here is another kicker.. you win a district title.. each kid receives a medal,, the team receives a trophy..each kid cuts the net... yet win a regional title..and the kids don't receive a medal whats wrong with this picture... i think any time kids accomplish a great feat they should be able to celebrate that.

Do all districts reward teams with trophies and medals? Since the 6 districts are in charge of districts I wonder if they are in charge of the awards? The state does the regionals so its their decision not to have trophies/medals?

Balogh teams have won 20 league titles in 3 different leagues. Unless my memory is failing me, I don't ever remember his teams cutting down a net for a league title. Some teams don't even cut down nets after a Sectional Championship. After winning just one game against a far inferior team.
One time I do recall the League Commissioner presenting a trophy to the winner of the last game of the league schedule, when the winner of that game was the league champion.
