Denison travels to Mt Union for the first round of the D3 playoffs. It’s the first playoff appearance for Denison since 1985. Denison is 19-9-1 against Mount (most wins a long time ago). Denison also handed MU their last regular season loss. I know, it’s a tall order.
Why should you care? Lex has three former players that making significant contributions to this team. Some recent Shelby grads have played a roll in Denison’s return to relavence (including my two sons). I met a Mansfield Senior family at a game this year who, if I remember correctly, has a freshman on the team. I may be missing some local kids.
The head coach and his staff are the kind of guys you want influencing your son. There are some great articles about coach Hatem on the internet worth the read.

Good Luck! I've mentioned before buckeyekid and I have a business associate/longtime friend whose son also plays for the Big Red. Here's 2 Willard guys pulling for the upset.

So close. No shame in losing to Mount, but that’s being boat raced

It was ugly. Defense held their own. Doesn’t look like it, but when the offense is three and out every time, the defense has their hands full. Defense had some big stops. A couple of scores were on special teams. There is no shame and a playoff birth helps recruiting. Baby steps. You don’t catch up with a Mount Union in one year. You gain on them.
In addition it’s tough to complete with this.
Mount Union 81% acceptance rate.
Denison 48% acceptance rate.
One may play football a bit better, but the other is a bit smarter.

Guys c'mon. Denison never should have been here to begin with. They made it in because of 1 lucky upset and a three way tie breaker. Either Wabash or Wittenberg should have been the NCAC representative. That neither got an at large bid is a joke. Hating on MU is a little harsh considering they are the only football team in Ohio with any hope for success. Also, it's not their acceptance rate that kills you. It's that there are no D3 football programs in Fla and they are very good at recruiting down there in addition to the hs talent in their part of the state.

Denison has beaten Wabash and Wittenberg in recent years. When my oldest started there six years ago they were a .500 team. Since then they have been 7-3 or 8-2. New head coach around that time. The year they beat Wittenberg they laid an egg at DePauw or would have won the conference that year. This year it took Wittenberg quadruple OT to beat them. Six years ago the roster was 80. It’s just shy of 130 now. 30 seniors this year. Wittenberg and Wabash are the traditional powerhouses, but times are changing. Having said that all roads lead through MU. They have over 400 in uniform. Freshman team, a couple of JV teams. D1 and D2 transfers. Lower academic standards than even their own conference foes. It’s not an even playing field. If you don’t acknowledge that you’re clueless.

Agreed Wittenberg should have gotten an at large over John Carroll. Number two in the OAC will always be considered because they’re number two to MU.

If you don’t acknowledge that you’re clueless. Let me start by saying that I have been following the NCAC since 1987, my freshman year at OWU. In fact, the charter members of the NCAC all split off from the OAC because of their more rigorous academic requirements. Originally it was OWU, Oberlin, Denison, Kenyon, Wooster, Case Western, Allegheny, and Wittenberg. Since then we've lost Case Western and picked up Hiram, Depauw, and Wabash(also Earlam for a little while. OWU played Depauw and Wabash in ooc games while I was there. My freshman year Denison and their single wing offense was still considered to be a D3 power. My freshman year was also Kehres first year as head coach for MU(they were my second choice). Yes I realize the Denison has been on a bit of an upswing lately, but I still can't put them in the Wabash/Wittenberg camp just yet. I hate to break it to you but D1/2 transfers are not new to D3. You have to transfer down divisions if you don't want to sit out a year. We had 3 D1/1AA transfers come to OWU while I was there. One from EMU, one from New Hampshire, and one from BG. Allegheny won the Stagg Bowl my sr year. That one hurt as we lost 10-7 to them at their place to go 9-1. Unfortunately only 4 teams per region made the playoffs back then. At any rate, just be happy the NCAA made the "Dayton rule". You want to talk about uneven playing fields? They used to be allowed to field a D3 football team while maintaining D1 programs in their other sports. After they won the NC my junior year they changed this.
