Do you think Shelby doesn't have some of the elite players that some of the better programs have because Schwemley cant coach them to that level? Also do you think he runs some kids out of the program before they have an opportunity to develop and be as good as say a Lex player? Stop and think about this, is it a kids fault they is not being developed or the program?

If a kid quits a team it is always easiest to blame the coach but we could argue the kid either didn't want it or didn't have what it takes. And by having what it takes I mean physical skills, mental strength, athleticism and total successful support from home.

Having partially gone through the program myself (left for injury reasons unrelated to coaching), I hear many of the complaints that echo what I saw as a player. Additionally, I have an acquaintance in Columbus Grove who had a sibling play for Schwemley and even they had similar complaints. Most of the issues start when players take things too personally and shut down.
Here is the thing, even with Shelby displaying some pattern of players leaving the program (which I have no strong idea of how much this goes on at other schools), Schwemley averages a 14-8 season. The X's and O's are solid. I think his style is conducive to getting successful basketball to be played, but that same style grinds gears.
I will continually echo my point, that 63% win rate over the past 12 years is better than a lot of schools can lay claim to. In my view, the negatives of the current situation do not outweigh the negatives of rocking the boat.

Stop and think about this, is it a kids fault they is not being developed or the program? Varsity coaches don’t develop elite players. The individual player makes himself elite. Elite comes from playing basketball every chance you get, holding a ball in your hand 24/7. The only roll a varsity coach plays is providing an environment from 7-12th grade between October and February to continue to grow. Elite happens 365 days a year. He falls short developing number 7-10 who only play b-ball four months a year. Yes he runs some kids off. One by not adapting his approach individually to meet a kid where that kid is (my stick/carrot point on another thread). One by playing freshman up with a win now at all costs attitude.
