I think these two situations will just help further push the agenda right now of allowing players to earn money in college. How insane is it that, if Young’s story is true, he is going to miss one or more games because he borrowed some money that was eventually paid back. Like what did that hurt? How did that affect anything? This should literally be a non issue. No one in America should even care that this happened. Precisely! No harm, no foul, in this case. The only thing I would differ with you is the word 'eventually' (paid back). Think the more appropriate word we could use is 'promptly' (paid back) I don't think the NCAA is going to want to remove the good face of their product (student/athletes) In Chase Young's example, one who is a polite, mannerly and studious young man that excels on the football field, because of his hard work and dedication.

I don't appreciate the fact that Herbstreit is blabbing that Ohio State officials 'expect' a 4 game suspension. Once again, educated idiots flapping their jaws with their brains disengaged.
Why would you telegraph what you 'expect' them to impose? If the NCAA are initially inclined to impose a 1 or 2 game suspension and the OSU administration goes public that they are resigned to 4 games and possibly negotiate a lesser sentence.
This takes me back to tatgate, where Gene Smith pro-actively offered up our undefeated season on a silver platter, instead of waiting and seeing where the NCAA was posturing on the situation. Let's just jump in, head first and leave the brains behind.

Gene Smith should have said eff the NCAA like Kansas and UNC and Auburn did and make them prove it.
That's what they should do now. Penny Hardaway played his kid anyway rofl. Let's stop acting like the NCAA are the gd Supreme Court.

when it comes to authority a hearty "4UCK YOU" is almost always the right answer Not necessarily in those exact words, but there needs to some semblance of resistance and defense of it's athletes, in the realm of fairness. Ohio State is the most prominent university in the country. Act like it!

also, remember the Playoff is NOT an NCAA sanctioned event, it has nothing to do with the NCAA and their name is NOT on the trophy
they can't really strip 5hit, imho
pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...God Bless Penny Hardaway for helping a family and then telling the NCAA to go to hell, and to Memphis for backing him...they just became my fav university in the land
OSU, stop hitting yourself. Stop. Hitting. Yourself. You are not the NCAA. You are not the Big-10. You are tOSU and so tell these guys to go 4uck themselves. This is beyond ridiculous.

Memphis showed some backbone, but unfortunately this university has neither the intestinal fortitude or the resolve to stand up and present it's case in defense of it's athletes. At least that has been the case the past ten years.

ya know when i see true FROSH play sometimes and struggle or fight for playing time it just reminds me how much of a real monster Andy Katzenmoyer really and truly was as a FROSH, it is easy to forget with the injuries and short career

At least that has been the case the past ten years. Ohio State is doing the smart thing handling this now as opposed to running the risk of having it surface before the playoff game and chase be ineligible for a game they could actually lose. You can argue the offense doesn’t merit a suspension but if you’ve got two firing brain cells it’s plain as day that OSU is doing the right thing. As for Memphis if you mean stupidity then yes they showed backbone. Having to forfeit that game and face additional sanctions for playing an ineligible player is totally showing a backbone.

People who stand for nothing will fall for anything.
OSU is doing the prudent thing but it is also the ball-less thing. We don't have to be desperate, we aren't UM.

As the facts in the matter come out, it is looking pretty clear a naive kid, wants his girlfriend at the game, but knows his mother doesn't approve or like the young lady in his life, so Chase resorts to borrowing the small sum to get her a round trip flight and pays it back by April of this year. Small loan, that is paid in full within 4 months, as simple as that. Chase says this family friend is certainly not a sports agent and no influence pedaling going on here, just a kid that wants his girlfriend in the stands, cheering him on. Sorry folks, no major scandal here. I think we will see a one game suspension, or possibly two. Can't imagine anything more will result. No harm, no foul. Then Young is a liar, he said the loan was for "basic life expenses". My wife would kill me If called her "basic life expenses".

Because the court of public opinion is quite strong about the Chase Young situation,,I think one more game out is gonna be the deal. People in general, not just OSU fans,,are sick of the athletes being treated like this over what should be a non issue. "A small loan to a family friend' that has since been repaid. There was no taking money from an agent or whatever as some had suggested.

Rules smules......the NCAA has the ability to judge cases individually, based on their merit and particular circumstances. Anyone forget the countless times coaches and assistant coaches got sanctioned because they opened up their wallet and gave money for a players airfare to go home for a family members funeral, in an act of humanitarian compassion? Common sense and compassion should prevail, over all else!

What the F do you think would happen if Drake says that he accepts the NCAA punishment and the Athletic Department applies for a temporary injunction? Your lack of memory is appalling. Gene Smith and the Trustees all were in favor of Urban not missing any games. ONLY Drake insisted Urban miss 25% of the season. His vote counts more than ALL other votes. If you think Drake would ever be in favor of filing an injunction, instead of accepting the NCAA's ruling, you should be put in an asylum.
