Yes, this is Liberty’s first ever regional title. I believe they made regionals a couple years ago too.

He also didn’t leave after that 4-17 season if my memory is right, pretty sure he stayed for a few more seasons. And he seems to be a pretty damn good coach looking at what he’s done at Liberty.

Dude you constantly make reference to Noss wanting out etc etc. He and his family have very fond memories of the 10 years in Willard. Many friends here still and they def cheer for Willard to succeed. He had the opportunity in 2007 to take a great job in Wooster and yet he stayed in Willard. When the opportunity arose to take the job at Olentangy Liberty in 2009 school year it was too good of an opportunity to turn down. Brand new school in a wealthy community of Powell. It was a D1 school playing in the prestigious OCC of Columbus. He had a good run in Willard for 10 years. Working and Coaching at a large school like Liberty is a no brainer,,make no mistake They -(Olentangy Liberty)- came after him because of his coaching reputation. Think of it as a college coach going from D2 Ashland University to D1 Miami of Ohio. The financial opportunity and coaching opportunity makes it a pretty easy choice. It's called career advancement for a well thought of coach.

It's called career advancement for a well thought of coach. You need to be a little more specific. Noss is a class guy and remains friends with people from every stop along his career but that does not mean he wanted to stay at Ridgedale. He was hired to coach basketball at Wooster but never had a position for work. He was promised the next one that came available but it meant for a period he would have to teach at Willard and drive to Wooster and coach after quitting coaching at Willard and he could not do that so he was forced to stay. He had applied at a number of Columbus area schools. He even knew he would have an immediate assistant that he was familiar with since Hess had no plans to stay either. For him the college reference would be going from Bluffton College to Miami.

He wasn't from Willard, neither was Hess. Hess was a young guy, can't blame him for wanting to move up the ladder and also have a larger city to live and work in and socialize in. Noss went to Capital as I did, and he had told me he wanted to get back to the Columbus area for a number of reasons. Don't act as if people start coaching at Lexington and never leave for better opportunities. Happens everywhere not just Willard.

Noss had a great run at Willard, but money moves. Probably making more money at Liberty then any person in the Willard district. For teachers that’s a big deal. Also must be nice to get to coach like 3 lifetime players, most wait there whole career for guys like he has coached.

So don't acted surprised that Noss wanted to leave Willard long before he actually did. Willard was not his home town but it was closer to Fremont than Columbus or Wooster and he still wanted out. Capital was good to Noss and being on the bench was good experience for him and he loved Columbus life but he would have gone to Wooster)wife's home town) if he had been given a job. Hess took his first teaching job wherever he could get it but was not looking to return to his home in Ashland. Better opportunities come along all the time after success. You know him well, I know that, but if you want us to think he left Willard to climb a coaching ladder, it's not going to happen. Now he would have no reason to go to Wooster.

ASVSM is up on Nossaman's Liberty Patriots 28-16 at the half.
ASVSM hasn't been kind to Nossaman Dec 17, 2002 - L 103-49 - Regular season game at University of Akron - LeBron James and crew Mar 17, 2004 - L 77-60 - Regional Semi Mar 18, 2006 - L 65-63 - Regional Final Mar 22, 2019 - State Semi
Hopefully Liberty can pull this off in the 2nd half.
Not many public schools beat ASVSM. Upper Sandusky did it, but they had 3 Fostoria starters transfer in (with 2 being D1 scholarship players) to pull it off. You have to beat ASVSM at their own game and that's why private schools are typically the only ones that can pull it off. (If I feel like it I might go back and look through ASVSM's last 20 years of tournament runs and see their record vs Public and Private schools)
Akron Buchtel has to be the happiest that ASVSM is now up in D1. How many times were they eliminated in the District by ASVSM over the years? Finally ASVSM wasn't in their District and Buchtel made it to the Final Four.

Akron SVSM won 58-49
Akron SVSM the last 10 years in the OHSAA Tournament 52-1 vs Public Schools - stubbed their toe vs New Concord John Glenn in the 2016 State Final 10-5 vs Private Schools
Akron Buchtel has made 6 District Finals in the last 10 years, they were 0-5 before this year with all 5 losses to you guessed it, private schools, 0-3 vs Akron SVSM.

Before all your efforts with prior 2 posts, when you allow the competition 15 successive points early in the game w/o calling a timeout earlier, you're begging for trouble.

Liberty played hard. They had to adjust to STV speed and aggressiveness. Once they did, they were fine. Problem was being down 10-12 before being able to handle it. Liberty needed a Dials or Langhurst at PG to win that game. Someone to knock down open 3's and make FT's. They did their best with what they had. The speed and athletic ability was a huge advantage for STV.
One sequence really hurt late- Nakasian went hard to the rim for a layup and he tried to dunk it--he missed due to white man's disease,,got fouled. Then proceeds to miss both FT's , could have cut the lead to 1,,but didn't. That imo turned the game's momentum toward STV

I think Liberty could have won. StV defense bothered their shot but missing free throws was a big part of this loss. I would like to point out that the Nakasian kid does not suffer from your white man's disease. The Patriots run a lob play routinely in games and it goes for him because of his leaping ability. He did struggle with the amount of athletes on the floor from StV but so did the rest of the Liberty team.

Great players make the coach my friend Great coaches can make good teams with above average players. Starting with teaching how to play great team defense. When great coaches get 8 dependable offensive players then his team becomes very good. When those 8 players include 1 very good player. The potential is there for a Final Four team.
