Track/Field season is quickly approaching. Here's a thread for all schools in league from top to bottom, going to be very competitive this year. The big mega meet will be hosted at newcomer's Gibsonburg this year.

Norwalk will go to Tiffin next Tuesday for their first dual meet. Then on Saturday, the 30th they will go to the Perkins Invite. Always interesting weather at this time of year.

The oldest stewart for Sandusky might miss track season due to an unexpected surgery. Glad everything is good with him but will be tough to replace a kid who participated in 4 different events at state last year if he cannot compete this season.

Margaretta Relays also cancelled.
My daughters said that their coaches got an email from Perkins on Thursday stating that they were considering cancelling the meet due to impending weather. They also said field events would most likely be cancelled even if the meet wasn't. Perkins discus area is usually a swamp (as are many - that's the nature of the event).
They received official word on Friday afternoon stating the invite (runners & throwers) was cancelled. I think they were expecting the weather to be worse than it turned out. We did get nasty weather later in the day - but more towards the evening.

Look I will grant you that it got a bit nasty out at times but there was no lightening and it was in the freaking 50's for goodness sake. I thought it was ridiculous last year when Shelby cancelled their invitational because it was cold when Lex managed to have theirs just down the road without issue. You're not doing these kids any favors. They are not going to postpone conference, and definitely not districts because of weather. My daughter threw in a monsoon up in Oak Harbor 2 years ago. I told her on Saturday to treat Bucyrus like a district meet because she already knows what can happen up there. You have to practice in it and you need to learn how to compete in it. If you know it's going to be wet and muddy you stop at Walmart on the way in and buy extra towels.

I agree. I can remember being at the Perkins Invite 2 or 3 years ago and experiencing every type of weather in just that one day. Started cloudy and 50's and by 11 it was pouring and chilly and by 1 it was hailing and we finished with snow.
Last year's Lexington Invite was held and we laughed at the first 3 flights of girls that had to search for their discs under the snow. But they need that experience - it's Ohio!!!

Sandusky boys win Lima Spartan Invitational and girls place 2nd. I don't think Sandusky has enough depth to compete for a boys title but I like the girls in a few years as most of there points come from freshman and sophmores right now.

Huron Invite has been canceled So has the Fostoria Invite. As a spectator, I can't say that I'm disappointed to not have to sit out in the rain and cold. However, this is Ohio. Weather is unpredicatable. We are taking competition opportunities away as the invites are not made up. They aren't going to cancel district, regional, and state meets because it is rainy and cold. The athletes have to get used to competing in all types of weather.

No one wants to run on the Saturday of prom I think that's a bogus excuse, TBH. Agreed but that's why the Friday night invites got better draws this past week. There were only 10 invites across the state on saturday and 34 on friday according to Baumspage

Following results a little as it starts to get real the next couple of weeks... The Norwalk 800/1600 guys are starting to come together and should be able to put together a solid 4x800 by seasons end. They were 5th at D1 Districts last season (2018) and a D1 regional qualifier in 2017. They had a regional or State Qualfying 4x800 from 2012-2015. Including a runner up finish in 2014 at state. So their run (regionals or better) should continue in final year of the decade...
