I think this team is going to be much improved over 2019 version. Loose CJ Jackson and Keyshawn Woods Jaedon Ladee who hardly played. Add CJ Walker and the 3 talented Freshman, of which one is a tall Center who is a rim protector that we haven't had in a few years.
Sweet 16-- Elite 8 type of year imo. Top 4 in the Conference,,with MSU UM Purdue OSU fighting it out. We play Duke in the Bahamas in late Nov.

Holtmann gets Cal's leading scorer(15.8 in Big 12 play) 6-7 Soph. small forward Justice Sueing to transfer to Ohio State. He has to sit out the 2019-2020 season. The videos I've seen of him, he looks to be better at driving to the basket than anyone on the Ohio State team last year. Which was something sorely missed, as Ohio State was one or the worst in the country at getting to the foul line.

Holtzmann gets his first commit for the 2021 class. 6-8 power forward Kalen Etzler, the #51 overall player in the 2021 class. His uncle Doug Etzler played for Ohio State. He led Convoy Crestview to a State Title last year as a Sophomore.
His ball handling as a 6-8 Soph shows why he was a PG in Junior High. He's gone through quite a growth spurt.
He was considering transferring to a prep school for his final 2 years of HS ball to play against tougher competition, but decided to stay at home when uncle Doug got the heading coaching job at CC.

A buddy told me Luther Muhammad recently tied Jon Diebler's record for the mile at OSU training, clocking in at 4:57.

OSU always plays a controlled scrimmage vs someone to get a taste of a fresh opponent. This year was Louisville. OSU 81--68 over UL.

Ohio State beat Cedarville tonight in their exhibition. I listened on the radio, they got started a little slow but eventually pulled away easily. Obviously just an exhibition game but Carton and Walker definitely seemed to be a better guard combo than Muhammad and Washington. Muhammad struggled badly the second half of last season, hopefully that doesn’t carry over into this year. Kaleb Wesson dominated which was expected. Liddell also seems to be a little more college ready than Gaffney at this point. But still just one exhibition game so not putting much weight into it.

Caleb has gotten himself in a lot better shape physically heading into this year. Expecting big things from him.

I was just reading some quotes from Holtmann after the game and he basically called out Muhammad and Washington, saying there’s some guys that played the way they are coached to play but that wasn’t across the board. Hopefully it was just one game jitters. They play Cincinnati and Villanova coming up so they’ll definitely need to play better.

The OSU win last night was perhaps the ugliest first half I've seen in a while. The 2nd half they actually looked like a basketball team. First game and I'll give them a pass. Not having Musa Jallow hurt worse than I thought it would. Kyle Young saved us. Lot of new parts and it takes time to mesh .

That 1st half set the game of basketball back about 20-25 years. Young was very active and helped them hang around early. No Gaffney? Is he hurt or just not ready to contribute yet?

I saw Adam Jardy respond to this on twitter and he said that’s just where Gaffney is on the depth chart right now. I was reading some stuff during preseason that alluded to this, that Gaffney just isn’t transitioning to the college game as quickly. But he also doesn’t have much room to get many minutes in his position. The two Wesson’s and Young aren’t going to come out of games very much, especially if Young continues to play like he did last night. Also I like Carton more than Walker. I know it’s just one game, and maybe that will change as the season goes on, but Carton just seemed more comfortable out there.

^^^ Agreed. Muhammad/Washington just arent playing the way they should be yet. Washington forces shots and Muhammad still makes silly mistakes(like fouling Cumberland late in last nights game about 40 feet from the hoop).

I think you'll see Carton and Walker on the floor together more and more. I was extremely disappointed in Walker AND he's closer to 5-10 than the 6-1 listed on the roster.

Whatever Ohio State did differently tonight before the game need to do that before every game. Solid performance. Although Villanova may also not be as good as their #10 ranking.
Washington had a hot start with 11 points but I think that's all he ended with? He still gets out of control sometimes and ended with around 6 or 7 turnovers.
DJ Carton is just skimming the surface of how good he can be. He reminds me of Mike Conley. Both left handed, both very quick and quick first step, under control, good bball IQ.
Walker had his best game, was very aggressive in the first half. Him and Carton play very well together.

DJ CARTON! Ohio State has had some good PGs, but this kid is different. Enjoy, better get another PG lined up, he won't be at Ohio State next year.

I think Carton is a two year player. When he first committed to Ohio state he even said his plan is to stay 2 years.
I can also see Ahrens transferring possibly at some point. Washington and Muhammad are going to be 4 year players, there’s a solid wing player that will be coming in next years class(name escapes me right now), and we have the transfer from Cal that will have two years left to play next year. But you never know, maybe he’ll stick it out.

Vil was nowhere near as good as previous years. That being said, it was a coming out party for DJ Carton and basically the entire OSU backcourt. When your guards can handle the ball, penetrate and score--you have a distinct advantage over your opponent.
With two pretty decent players on the bench who were hurt for this game, whoah OSU seems pretty deep.
They will get challenged quite a bit in the non conference with NC KY WV coming up.
Unless i'm off my mark, I say we'll be in the top 3 in the Big Ten and a threat to win it.

Penn State on Saturday will be a good one.
Ohio state also plays Kentucky still and West Virginia.
Holtmann’s got this team rolling.

The win also cliched an 8-6 B1G win in the B1G/ACC challenge, the first since 2015.

It's hard not to like what Holtmann is doing, and I love his demeanor on the sideline. He was all smiles before the game, just soaking in the atmosphere. And when OSU had a few rough stretches of turning the ball over, he wasn't screaming/yelling at this players, just trying to calm them down. The Big 10 is going to be a grind!

No doubt about it. He’s got these players believing in how good they can be. I’ve noticed it a number of times how he holds it together on the bench instead of losing his mind when a possession goes bad.
I’m really impressed with our guard play. All 4 bring something different to the floor. Amazing how far these guys have come since the 1irst half against Cincinnati.

A different look than in previous seasons. They pass the ball really well,,and play great defense. And a pretty deep bench, so they can sub and keep guys fresh for 40 minutes without losing much . Seemingly improving each game almost.
