10 days for the coaches to get a glimpse of the winter ahead, anybody seeing or hearing anything? Flashes will likely win 12-14 games this year. I said 16 last year so I was within 20%, won 19 in the regular season if I'm not mistaken. Have some big shoes to fill. The paxton kid will likely fill the void for the polacheck kid and do okay, shooting will need to improve from last year but I'm sure that was nerves as a freshman. There is no one going to fill the void of the triplet kid graduating and he gave us 6-7 more wins last year.

Another huge issue is gonna be depth. We have 6 guys returning that have seen Varsity action. The bench is gonna consist of some combination of Addelman, Meisner, Mock, Weiss, Weirs, and Sallee. Addelman being the only one that saw good minutes last. No Bigs to come off the bench at all. Depth at the post a real problem.

Had we not had them, maybe 10-12 wins.

Not sold on the Dawson kid at 5, not a shooter. Think meisner may push the paxton kid for that 2G position. As far as other kids, heard the patton, patterson, flores and cok kid are all playing so that changes things a little. Sure would be nice to see the slone kid come back as well.

Dawson at the post doesn't need to be a shooter, he needs to play tenacious defense, get rebounds and garbage points. I dont think Meisner will be pushing Paxton at the 2G, Addelman will be doing the pushing. Meisner, Mock, Weiss, Sallee, Weirs will see more JV time than Varsity, much like Paxton and Addelman did last year. When things settle in toward the end of the regular season I see a 6 man rotation with Parrot, Paxton, Pinkston, Baldridge, Dawson, and Addelman, unless someone surprises me. Contrary to what you heard, I'm fairly certain Flores is not playing. Cok and Patterson have not been to any weights or workout sessions in May or June so I've been told.

If Flores isn’t playing that hurts, he has some speed and that is what they are losing with Polachek and Triplet graduating. Meisner will likely be in that starting lineup from time to time. I think him and the paxton kid will share time, he is a better shooter and defender but slower than the paxton kid. I see on the calendar that Eastern is this week so you should know who is playing by who goes there, I would think. Dawson and Adelman are too slow so it may be the meisner and paxton kid in there together starting at times. we need more than just garbage points because the parrot kid will get his 20 a night but the pinkston kid and baldridge kid are hot and cold so you need 5 kids on the floor that can score, not just get garbage points. that would mean a .500 year if that is the case. Isn’t football weights going on now too, these other kids might be there instead of basketball?

I hope you're right about Mesiner. He has skills, decent ball handler, decent jumper, good quickness, his size somewhat of a hindrance, and his decision making has been somewhat questionable. But if he can play valuable varsity minutes this year it will be a huge boost to the team

Basketball doesn’t start officially until the fall/winter and this summer stuff is all voluntary. Many of these kids probably have summer jobs so i could see a lot of them skipping a lot of this stuff this summer.

Doesnt matter of its voluntary or not, they should all be at every workout there is, those are the kids that then sit the bench in the winter and wonder why they’re not playing. And as far as jobs, employers will work their schedules around the sports schedules.

So what you are telling me is the players that will start on this varsity team this year are at ALL the voluntary weight sessions and open gyms this summer, not buying it. This comment had nothing to do with starting or sitting the bench, it had to do with an understanding that if kids are working jobs in the summer and they can make some of these voluntary sessions, amen! If they are not working, they should be there unless they have a ride issue because many don't drive yet and early sessions are hard for young kids to get to when both parents work, especially if they live a ways out of town.

OK, didn't see everyone but talked to some of the coaches and a few people who were there fro the day. was mostly d3 and under with Norwalk and Perysburg being div teams. Perrys burg looked the best followed by Norwalk who didnt have chapin or sowders to of this years starters and a few bench players, from talking with other officials who did the other gym loactions and a few people who know the aera, the basketball over all was pretty bad, looked a lot like open gym, Vermillion , lost a ton and it shows, Edison young and not talented, BC has some talent but struggled against speed, ST Paul looked ok but, didnt look like they ran an offence , just came down and shoot 3's all day, Wynford was pretty bad, Bellevue was ok, Senca east has some talent, but nees to put it all together, there were a couple other teams I didnt see but over quality of the the games was down from past years of this shoot out.

Do all Willard parents make the excuses for the players before the players do. Most employers understand when they hire a high school athlete there will be some requests for summer activities. Voluntary and expected to make it can be one and the same. If a kid does not make at least half of the summer workouts-lifting and at least 7 of the 10 contact days, the coach should know his level of dedication. IF he cannot find a ride from another player or player's parent on occasion, you have to ask if he is even wanted by the other players.

Tell an employer that you need to work when you want and not when you are needed and see how long you stay employed. The comment about a player not being wanted by other teammates has to be one of the most ignorant comments I have heard on here in a long time.

This happens in every school district in Ohio past and present. And the kids still have jobs. You haven't heard much then. If a kid lives out of the way but is good buddy of half of the team, he will have ways to get to and from practice. You must have been one of those guys that didn't have any good friends.

Any kid who is planning on playing basketball should be at every workout/gym session/shoot out, whatever it may be. We all know they aren’t really “voluntary”, that has been true forever. If a kid truly wants to help his team be better and if he wants to get better himself, he will be there. Stop making excuses. And yes employers do work with summer schedules, stop making that excuse too.

OR parents can tell their kids what my parents told me, what I told my kids and what my daughter and son in-law are telling their kids. "Your high school years should not be limited by HAVING to work. We will buy you the clothes you want, give you money for dates and will own enough cars that you won't have to buy one."

All I'm saying is some kids that don't live close can have a hard time getting to these voluntary sessions and that is why they call them voluntary. If they are within walking distance, walk by all means. If they have jobs and they conflict with the voluntary sessions they can let the coaches know and if a coach holds it against them, so be it. Not everyone is a teacher and has the summer off and can schedule these sessions at a time where most parents need to be at work. If their "friends" can't drive out to the lake and get them then they either walk 3 miles or ask a parent to miss work to take them to this voluntary session. How about a coach or two asking kids if they need rides, that is a two way street and I like that idea, then there are no excuses (as you call them).
