Does Bellevue owe anyone anything? No.
However nows a pretty bad time to do the bare minimum.
Why not at least mention Ward in your statement apologizing for unsportsmanlike behavior and wishing her well?
Doing the bare min is feeding into the frothing public.

TMZ went exactly where my mind went...scholarship. Is it in jeopardy?
No good argument against punishment. Zero.
It’s a kid who made a mistake. By all accounts it was out of character. Gentle correction is warranted. There shouldn’t be any long term repercussions.
Like them or not this is an attack by people on a family that has been very successful. People are going to want to tear them down.
As someone said it’s too bad this didn’t get handled at the time by the stripes.

If Bellevue wants to bask in all the articles about 1,000 and 2,000 point scorers and thump their chests about regular-season wins, then they ought to have guts enough to own up to this. However, based on the head coach’s sour grapes comments after the playoff loss last year about Toledo schools recruiting, I’m not expecting much more than the bare minimum to be done.

Let’s flash forward to 5 years from now when Casey is hitting the job market after college. Interview goes well then HR runs a search on her name and this comes up. Certainly that will cause a company to at least stop and think twice about hiring her. I definitely think punishment is in order but some of those people advocating more draconian methods like yanking her scholarship or public shaming need to remember she’s a kid and she’s already facing a certain level of lifelong consequences from this.

No dog in this fight ... The actions of the Bellevue player are outside the parameters of the game ... period. There was a hard box out and she retaliated. No excuse for that. Last year the Willard boys team had a situation with Margaretta ... pushing and shoving with a swing or two. The Willard player was ejected and received a 2 game suspension. This is the LEAST that should happen to Santoro ... but it won’t. The official completely missed it. Nothing happens after the fact. I understand that vids have been sent to various entities concerning the incident ... including colleges. I have no proof ... just the hearsay in the basketball world today. Basically ... it goes unchecked and unpunished. OHSAA won’t touch this with a ten foot pole ... because they would be inundated with videos the very next day from every coach/parent that thought there little Susie or Johnny was wronged in some matter. They’re not opening that Pandora’s box. Will BHS police themselves and handle the situation? Not likely ... judging from the responses on here. Now ... is there anything that can be done to undo it? Obviously not. Is there a message that can sent to the player or players, coaches and staffs around the league? Absolutely. Coaches can refuse to support any or all of the conference awards the player would’ve received. That’s something that the other coaches can do ... it may be the only thing that can be done at this point. One thing is for sure ... the rest of the SBC will be watching with interest. I agree 100% with you Bat21 that OHSAA won't touch this. That would warrant videos from all over the state being sent in and demanding punishment. Bellevue will try and brush this under the rug, but looks like it's gone viral now to the national level!

Feeding frenzy. I must say I have some empathy for Bellevue and for the Bellevue girls' family. A tough almost no win situation for a lot of people.

Do not forget, it is a situation coming from a choice of action. A bad choice if you ask me. I would gladly impose a suspension on my child for doing this in hopes they learn a lesson and it would never happen again.

Wasn't her dad arrested, or thrown out of, a MHS high school BB game a few years ago? Family trait? Maybe I'm wrong.
No matter the outcome, this is definitely a black eye for the Bellevue High School. National attention.....wow.

No matter the outcome, this is definitely a black eye for the Bellevue High School. National attention.....wow. if you are implying a family trait, Perkins just hired a family member to be the FB coach, so hopefully not. Is it safe to assume this hair incident is an isolated incident? Have not heard that this player was like this before and have watched them play a few times the last few years and never got an indication that what happened fits a pattern. I would like to believe that things were physical and she lost her cool. Tough way to learn that lesson though. But its time to move on from it and learn and finish the season strong! I see people saying that these two girls were physical in prior games and in this game and so on, but well coached teams are taught not to retaliate and are disciplined enough not to do something stupid like this. nothing good ever happens when you lose your cool and do things like this.

nor should the scholarship be in jeopardy. social media warriors take this stuff too far in both directions. this should be used as choice to learn from for all parties. also hope the Norwalk player is alright.

Piratefan the dad wasn't arrested but went into the officials locker room after the game to confront them. Another parent assaulted a MHS administrator. No discipline was given in that incident so I wouldn't expect any here.

How can all this happen by watching a 3or4 second video... I truly hope the girl from Norwalk is OK. I can tell you that the Bellevue girl is not, she is being harassed by almost everyone that can type or peck their hateful remarks. Having said that, I can only hope this satisfies the haters, sad to say.

Yeah anyone saying she should lose her scholarship can get the hell out of here. We’ve seen much worse out of incoming and enrolled college athletes.
Personally with as big as this has gotten I think 2 games would be enough. What happened was way out of line...
However I expect nothing was done when the Lady Red traveled to Perkins and a girl on their JV team took a swing at a bellevue girl? Point is not everything makes the news like this but being the family and school involved it becomes even bigger. I still believe something is done and those who think it will be swept under the rug is posting with hateful intentions wether against Bellevue in general or the santoros. Success puts a bigger target on your back.
If nothing is done I’ll be back on here admitting I was wrong and disagree with no discipline.

i have no idea where this information came from since the school is prohibited from releasing discipline information, but it is making the rounds on facebook that the penalty is 1 game. for the sake of bellevue's reputation i hope that information is false.

Older sis made the tweet not her, and it was in reply to wards tweet where she said herself (making light of herself and the situation actually) ‘weave=snatched 😂’. That tweet tells me the Ward girl is as nice as I’ve heard recently and I wish her a quick recovery. 😔 Still though, it was not wise at all by Carly to reply with ‘weav it alone 10 time champs’ especially with a probable concussion involved. I’m sure now she’d agree. Unfortunate, awful, stupid all 3. Now the Bellevue and Santoro hating wolves are out in full force. Tough thing is, they’ve had the door opened to do so. Hope everyone lets Bellevue OHSAA handle this and chill on tweeting and texting her.

You are correct. I heard from someone that she received a 1 game suspension. Personally, I dont think the punishment fits the crime. It's a token suspension to try and appease the masses. It failed. But I guess we move on.
