Joe came to Willard basketball camp once. They took questions and I asked him if he was friends with anyone on the team. He basically said he couldn’t be friends with any of them bc it would take away from the integrity of the call. Positively or negatively. What a professional.

I’ll be a homer on the Willard thread. Flashes were better than WR, and now appears they very well coulda been 1 win away from state 😣

Wow, Mansfield has 34 sectional championships. Talking with coaches Prats, Collins and James they have never mentioned all of their sectional success. Talking with the press, coach Balogh says, "To win a Sectional Championship is always big. A person on the outside doesn't understand how hard it is". Talking about dude the outsider?

There's talk on the MOAC football forum that in June a vote will be taken by the N-10 on whether or not to admit a package deal of Willard and Pleasant to take the league from 8 to 10. Any rumblings of this in Willard?

For most schools, making the the NCAA tourney is a big deal. For the Dukes, Kentucky, Tarheels, Spartans, etc....not so much....it is expected. Winning Sectional tiles is a big deal.....only 25% of the schools in Ohio achieve this title each year. For a school to do it consistently is a really big deal and is consistent with excellence over a long period of time. IMNSHO.

It's really more like 33% of the schools in Ohio achieve sectional basketball titles each year. When Sectional tournament began, teams played 2-3 games to win the title. Now with expanded divisions, it can be done in a single lopsided contest. It's value has been greatly reduced.

Regardless, if I'm better than 70% of my competitors CONSISTENTLY, thats a pretty good barometer of my program. It's ignorant, condescending, and somewhat unintelligible for anyone to think that a Sectional Title is not a big deal.....considering nearly 70% of the schools in Ohio dont achieve this each year!

Always good to be thought of. Statistically it's not 70% it would be more like 67%. In reality you are better than about 2% since roughly only 12 schools are your competitors. The other 98% are never seen in your sectional. At best you could say 25% of the total schools are in the same division so you could claim being better than the 6% in your sectional. It's ignorant and somewhat unintelligent for anyone to state that any team that wins a sectional game could beat any team that lost a sectional game in the entire state. South Central won a sectional but were they better than Cleveland Benedictine because they didn't? We would be silly to think so.

Ah, you want to spin basic mathematics to support your position on the topic. There are basic principles in statistics and algebra that if violated, the comparison/equation is false. You violated several. I dont have the inclination to educate you about basic statistic/algebraic rules. You wouldn't get it anyway. It's really this simple....you can't add/subtract on one side of the equation then multiply/divide on the other side of the equation and say..."see, I told you so". I told you, u wouldn't get it. Additionally, you can't use subjective data/material( Benedictine) to support a mathematical equation...I know, you still don't get it. Regardless, spin it however you want. Winning a Sectional Title is a big deal, and a great barometer for most coaches who are evaluating their program over a period of time.

709 Ohio Schools play football - 224 make the playoffs - under 8 teams per region format 790 Ohio Schools play Basketball - 256 win Sectional Championships 32 NFL teams - 12 "used to make the playoffs"
224/709 = 31.6% - Playoffs in Ohio Football - 8 teams per region 256/790 = 32.4% - Win a Sectional Championships 12/32 = 37.5% - Make playoffs in the NFL - old 6 teams per Conference
Now 63.2% of Ohio teams make the playoffs in football - 16 per region Now 43.8% of NFL teams make the playoffs - 7 per Conference
Willard has made winning Sectional Championships look so routine over the last 50 years that the Willard Haters have incorrectly come to the conclusion that winning them is easy, yet 70% of schools fail to do it every year.
Alabama has made making the CFB playoff look easy. Therefore as a Bama Hater I've decided it isn't impressive. Now how can I distort #'s to such extreme absurdity, just like dude did, to "try" make what Bama has done look unimpressive?
"dude logic on Bama: 130 FBS schools But only P5 teams have made playoff and the SEC has made playoff every year. So Bama is only competing vs 14 SEC teams for a playoff bid and not 130. That means Bama is not better than 97% of FBS teams but instead only better than 13 SEC teams, leaving 117 teams possibly better than Bama. Bama is only better than 10% of FBS teams, not 97%. Making the CFB playoff is easy Thank you, I'm dude, my logic is sound."
70% of Ohio Basketball teams FAIL every year to win a Sectional Title. Why do 70% fail when it's so easy?

The only spinning going on is in your head to elevate Willard with sectional titles. They are a special thing of the past and have only continued in discussion alone for fans like us to debate. The facts are that in 2021 many teams have to win a single game to be called a Sectional Champ. For the OHSAA it doesn't warrant a trophy or announcement but the individual district sites can allow a net to be cut. Some fans that I have talked to compare a section title to the 2021 achievement of making the playoffs. I do think it is above that mark. Seeing how an 0-10 team made the playoff.

We've already established that 32.4% of Ohio Boys Basketball teams win a Sectional Title each year. So 68% fail.
What other achievements have that 68% fail rate.
32 starting NFL running backs 75% failed to rush for 1000 yards in 2020 50% failed to rush for 1000 yards in 2019 72% failed to rush for 1000 yards in 2018 72% failed to rush for 1000 yards in 2017 63% failed to rush for 1000 yards in 2016 66% fail rate over the last 5 seasons
Having a starting RB in the NFL rush for 1,000 yards in a season is as likely to occur as a Basketball team winning a Sectional Title. 70% fail rate for both
Pretty sure 1,000 yards rushing is a milestone that let's people know you had a good season and backs that do it year after year are even more special. Same with winning Sectional Championships as both have the same failure rate. If you are consistently winning Sectional Championships you know you are doing something right.

Awesome stats. When it was first established, a sectional trophy may take 3 games to win. In todays game, most are won after a single victory which is a minimal accomplishment. Toss any stats you want to at that, but in many eyes a sectional title is a means of getting to districts. I never said it was not discussed but it's value is not comparable to a D1 college team making the NCAA. It's closer to the NIT, which I now know Bucyrus has never experienced. :-)

I am excited to see the kids in my son's class take the court this year. They worked really hard all off-season. My son decided not to go out this year but the boys are all like family so we will be rooting hard for them. That sophomore class has some talent for sure. If they can gel with the seniors I think they can compete with a lot of teams.

Who are the top 7-8 guys? Good question. Let's get back on topic. Kid I'm thinking as follows... Paxton Weiss Dawson C. Robinson Weirs I. Robinson Johnson Slone "Move in" Josh ? The first 4 listed are starters. The next 4 will battle for the 5th spot...may change week to week based on opponent/matchups. Josh can help on the perimeter if he plays. Keys to a season that Joe is accustomed to.... Perimeter Shooting Defensive Rebounding Turnover to Assist ratio Those 3 are like most schools Our top 8 consists of 2 seniors, 5 Sophomores, and 1 Junior. Thats a young team. How fast can the Sophs grow up? Can the Seniors lead the young guys? Is the Junior ready for prime time....he held his own on the football field. Food for thought.
