There is no way Girls coach Eric K. is leaving Margaretta, He's got the best program around, for now. Until a girl or 2 don't like to be disciplined, Then boo hoo to their parents, Then they'll run him out of Castalia, Like they did to Tim Tucker. Hopefully, That does not happen, again. Eric is a good guy. I agree that this one is a long shot. I think this is more of a hope for the people of Perkins Twp. Eric is an excellent coach, and seems to really connect with the girls. He did a great job when he was coaching JV at Perkins.

So what is really going on at Perkins? Theyβve pushed three people out now - and since when does the superintendent do interviews for coaches?

From the list of names above, There's no way Bobby or Eric leave their respective programs, And what they got coming up. Frank, Not likely. John, Doubtful. The other 3, That's possible.

Drew is a good possibility. Do they allow administrators to coach at Perkins? I'm sure the opportunity to coach his son and the very talented class he is in would be appealing to him. Whoever gets the job, they do have some young talent showing up soon. Would definitely help that career record after all of those years at Danbury. Tough place to win.

I didn't think McVeigh's non-renewal has been board approved yet or the job even been posted.

If you skip ahead to the 56:00 mark.

Nice to know that the inmates are allowed to run the asylum. Those board members totally threw Mc Veigh under the bus. So did they ever contact him about these said complaints? Give him a chance to address or correct them? The Super really didn't want to answer that question, it was funny to see his reaction. The board member who said they fielded all these complaints, but then says he doesn't know McVeigh is an idiot as well. Why would you not address these concerns with him. How can someone improve on these things if they are not told about them? Any of the complaints legit? The whole thing smells funny. McVeigh will get a chance to coach somewhere else. The guy who comes in will definitely have to watch his back, all it takes is some complaints to certain board members and you are gone. Good Luck!

This is unbelievable! I've never heard or seen anything like it. I thought it was bad but this clearly shows what a train wreck it is in that school district. This will not end well and I'll even go out on a limb and predict McVeigh will be back next year.

Gutless, the man has not had one bad evaluation, yet this jackass wants to say he has had a Poop load of parental complaints. His practices must be pure hell, because in all the years i've seen him coach i don't recall anything over the border... Whatever happen to chain of command..its in every God have mercy on my soul handbook in every school... who has a handbook that says if you have a problem with your teacher go to the super ?

After watching this I would have to say that if McVeigh is correct that he has never received a poor evaluation and if Bradley Mitchel did in fact receive numerous complaints as he stated over his 9 years, then if McVeigh needs to be let go I would also ask Mitchel to step down. If the complaints he received are severe enough to fire a coach for his action then why in hale didn't he do something about it before now or at least bring a coach in for discussion after 2 complaints during his evaluation. To bring up past complaints that nothing was done about shows his gutless ability as a leader for that district. Just my thought.

Because he appears to be taking the cowards way out by not ever telling him about the complaints. I have no problem if you want to let the coach go and go in a different direction, but the way this has been handled is embarrassing. How are you a board member for 9 years, but do not know your boys basketball coach. The super also was quick out of the conversation.Β Would be curious if he is on board with it, or he is acting at the mercy of the school board. I hope the next coach does their homework on what is going on here, no wonder they had multiple people turn down the football job and had to take a chance on a young kid who is looking for a chance.Β He better be watching his back from some of these board members.Β Some parent complaints and some kids decide not to play and you are gone.Β What a shame.

Any of the board members up for reelection in November? Could be a charged campaign season.

Will be interesting to see how much public participation there will be at the next board meeting. I found it surprising that Dr. Michel commented during open session since it's a personnel issue.

as far as im concerned,im a graduate of edison high school 1974 and im will want to see mcveigh back.the complaints by out of control parents and players who couldnt make the cut should be made to the coach mcveigh if not fixed then to the athletic director, but the sperintendent and boe should be the last to go to that should be the chains of command.but since he is in his first year at perkins,it is easy for him to get influencd by these out of control parentsb who wants control of the basketball program or these players who couldnt make the cut to complain.so since the perkins BOE and todd boggs and didnt tell the coach about them and want to let mcveigh go,then they should be held liable and mcvey should file a lawsuit against them for not telling mcvey about the complaints and conspiracy in that case then boggs should get canned and these board members not reelected when the time come.this edison graduate stands behind coach mcveigh all the way.

How is a local professional on a school board for 9 years and obviously living in the community even before that but does NOT know a head coach of 18 years from one of the most important sports in the school district your work for?

It takes three board members to approve the recommendation of the superintendent. We will find out if there are more than one board member who feels this way, assuming it is brought to a vote.

Letter to Editor in the Sandusky Register May 27th...from the area coaches..
Scott McVeigh is not just a coach, he is a family man, a teacher, and a loyal friend.
Coach Scott McVeigh stepped into a 1-19 program, that was in the basement of area basketball, and built Perkins into one of the most successful basketball programs in its league and district. Scott is the most successful basketball coach in Perkins history, taking Perkins Varsity Boys Basketball to places it had never been, including back-to-back Regional appearances, and one Regional Final.
For 18 years, Scott modeled discipline, work ethic, and character to his players, expecting them to follow suit. He was not afraid to tell players no, if necessary, and focused on the whole player, not just skill on the court. This is something parents and players of todayβs world can have a difficult time digesting. During Coach McVeighβs years as head basketball coach, his kids always won or lost with class. This is a trademark of a Scott McVeigh coached team.
Scott McVeigh is one of the most respected coaches in this area, if not around the state. He has been president of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association District 6, and has been on many committees helping student athletes, from around the area, get recognized both on and off the basketball court.
Coaching against Scott was always a challenge, as his teams were very well prepared, and were going to play as hard as possible. Scott would settle for nothing less. As coaches we spend more time with other peoplesβ kids then we do our own. We try to teach and instill work ethic, discipline and accountability. Scott brought that culture to Perkins 18 years ago and Perkins Boys Varsity Basketball has reflected that.
Scott McVeigh deserved better than being dismissed without warning, without a negative evaluation, and without a chance to address parent complaints. He deserved, at the least, a conversation about the program he built. Coach McVeigh prepares kids for life, and life gets harder every day. Kids have to learn about success, failure, goal setting, and self-reflection. This is not toxic, this is real, and now more than ever, necessary.
Perkins Varsity Boys Basketballβs loss is a gain for all coaches facing Perkins in the future.
Sincerely,
-Bobby James, Huron varsity boys basketball coach
-Steve Gray, Norwalk varsity boys basketball coach
-Joe Balogh, Ontario varsity boys basketball coach
-Kyle Hammond, Edison varsity boys basketball coach
-Kurt Habermehl, Vermilion varsity boys basketball coach
-Chris Sheldon, Western Reserve varsity boys basketball coach
-Dave Sheldon, Colonel Crawford varsity boys basketball coach, president of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association

Wasn't Steve Gray in a similar situation not long ago? Had some player or parent complaints that went to the school board and he was being reviewed for removal?
