I’m very familiar with the Africentric program. They breed college players. Yes they recruit, it’s just funny to see teams throw that out there after the loss. First thing. But, before the game they like their chances. This is a lesser Nubians team than the past too.

It was tried in 2012 and failed the vote from what I remember. Ohio Could Excommunicate Catholic, Other Private High Schools From Public-School Competition. Is it fair, absolutely not. So instead of getting on here and b!tching about it people should work with their Superintendent to lobby OHSAA for a change.

Mckinney is a tool.. he works the system like it is AAU.. its ok though.. our kids in this area will all grow up from K thru 12 together and get a good education, some may play a little D-3 college ball, some won't to each their own, but i'd much rather support a program that is built within its own district, then one that is put together like an all star team..

I agree it is entertaining to watch year after year parents get online from all sorts of cities and all sorts of teams saying they “play as a team“ and their “girls have heart“ “their girls have been friends from the time they have all been three years old“ they “play team ball” Then they watch their ‘team ball’ girls lose by 30. Africentric handpicks players from the Columbus market that are division one talent, and they beat up on Division III schools. There’s nothing you can do about it, there’s nothing the OHSAA will ever do about it.

I watched SE give them all they wanted in Lexington 4 years ago. They had a pg who was fearless and just could handle the pressure. That’s what it takes —- kids who won’t be intimidated by in your face pressure.
Just getting to Regionals is always a good thing though and it keeps us on the map and something to follow .

These girls aren’t intimidated by anyone. I think Willard wins this one in a nail biter.

Last year africentric only won by 4 against og in the regional final. I’ve heard they were a better team last year. Willard being a woman down doesn’t help matters but if they lose by thirty, they were intimidated and or quit.

I went to the Margaretta game last year and they had a very bad game. Top player had the flu and hardly scored. They went in thinking about how awesome africentric was and didn’t play ball. Og gave them a game tho. Hiland was supposed to the best team in d3 last year. Not the Nubians. Yes it is unfair that they recruit from a city with a population of 900k, but you have to play the game anyways. Until it’s over, go Willard. You can do it.

Would it be right to "excommunicate" Norwalk St. Paul, Sandusky St. Mary, Fremont St. Joe, Tiffin Calvert? It will be MUCH more difficult now than in 2012. If you even try and Africentric is on your list. Everyone that tries will be forever branded as racist.

Same thing yearly w Africentric
Yes it’s unfair Yes it sucks Yes they are untouchable as Fillmore said
And yes there is a ‘chance’ Willard can win. Sure if the Nubians have a bad game and Willard plays great, sure
Sucks though that year after year a small miracle is what needs to happen for a small community school, where a state title would be celebrated for a lifetime, to beat a slapped together recruiting machine with 17 fans where that same trophy will be stacked in the back of their case, soon forgotten and used at best as a recruiting tool for the next great 6th grader across town.

This is 100% about recruiting and the ability to compete against public schools that abide by different rules of enrollment. It is not an apples to apples comparison. If you are going to allow these recruiting schools to play in public tournaments, all schools should be allowed to recruit without exception, period.

The Private schools in big cities are not apples to apples with say a Tiffin Calvert. The size of the pond is much bigger for AFR than it is for TC.

Don't forget, Africentric technically is not a private school.

I get it and I fully understand why some parents make this choice. Often, it is not always about sports, sometimes it is about what is being taught. But, my point, this will always happen and people can work towards a solution or just complain about it. I, for one, want to see Willard take it to them and prove a point.
