Werner is faster than most LBs in the county. Disagree. He’s faster than Borland, who was faster than a couple of offensive lineman How many 6-3 245 college inside linebackers this year run a 4.6 40?

I’m not real impressed with Vincent and Jackson inside to go along with Garrett but keep an eye on incoming freshman Mike Hall. One of the top rated DT’s in his class, a lot of the recruiting guys on Twitter are very high on him. word also talked to a few guys who think Miyan is our starting tailback next year, which i found curious

That’s irrelevant to this argument. I also don’t care about his 40 time. How many times did he make a 40 yard, direct line dash to make a tackle? Football speed is much different than having a slightly above average 40 time. And unless it’s a WR, it doesn’t much matter. It was glaringly obvious that our LB unit lacked speed this year. They got away with it last year because of the incredible pass rush we had. Not so much this year.

The odds are, Treyveon Henderson will be our starting tailback. Treyveon may be the most talented RB to ever put on a Buckeye uniform. I expect a ton of adjectives and superlatives coming his way in the coming years.

Yeah I’d hold off on some praise on him until we see what he actually does. A lot of good RB’s in Ohio State history, especially in recent years.

Let me educate you on the fact, he is the highest rated recruit in the history of Ohio State football. He's a winner in the classroom (4.0 student) and a winner on the football field. Between Quinn Ewers and Treyveon Henderson, one of them will be receiving a Heisman Trophy Award one day, barring injury. How's that for a bold statement?...lol None-the-less, the future is very bright for Ohio State football.

There are plenty of 5-star recruits who flame out or simply don't live up to the hype. I'm obviously hoping he is as good as advertised.

I correct myself, Tryveon is a 4.5 gpa student, his only B grade was in middle school and he is taking advanced, college prep courses in H.S. Watching his Jr. year highlights will get anyone excited. He didn't play this past year, due to Covid 19 cancellation of football at his school.

As I mentioned before, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we hear that Chambers or Crowley have entered the transfer portal with the depth in the RB room this coming year.

Does that translate to a full time starting role though? No clue.

I think Chambers, once he realizes whats going on, will enter the portal. Its great to have all this talent, but I also think it may be used against us in recruiting by other schools to those possible recruits who want to immediately start and then decide to go elsewhere

ALL college football coaches care about height or speed or you and I would have played at a Power Five school. Can you prove he doesn't have "football speed" for a middle linebacker? Werner's "football speed" raised the level of the LB group's speed overall. He was outstanding at covering TE's and on occasion had the slot receiver in man coverage. He NEVER left the field on any passing down.

I agree, with all his potential, Chambers looks like the odd man out. No place for a straight line runner in this offense. We all thought Trey Sermon was strictly a north/south back, he surprised us with moves we didn't think he had. The NFL is going to love him, he's big, physical and strong, with decent speed. The perfect, every down back.

Please refer to my original statement where I said I like Werner, and I would gladly welcome him back because he was out best LB this year. I said our LB unit was slow this year, which is a fact. I’m sure Werner’s speed is average, but I certainly don’t think he’s Usain Bolt like you seem to be obsessing over.

Foot speed is but one small element of what makes a good LB. What's in his head is even more important. The ability to recognize the play set, have good field vision, knowing where the play is developing, being strong enough to ward off blocks, while maintaining eye contact with the ball. A good LB has that innate ability to know when to be aggressive and committ to a gap, or be patient and let the play come to him. Lateral pursuit is a key element of keeping himself in position to making a stop. A lot of straight-line fast backers are lousy lateral movement guys.
Some of the all-time best LB's in the game, lacked outstanding foot speed, but had amazing read and react times, that put them at an advantage vs. opposing blockers and in position to make the tackle. The final elements are body positioning, having the physicality and strength to ward off blocks, keeping the blocker at arms length and away from their body and the ability to wrap and finish the tackle.
Pass coverage is dependent upon the coaches defensive scheme and alignment and a whole different discussion.

Pete Werner has made it official he will not be returning to Ohio State so we will have an entire new starting linebacker group next year.

Gonna be weird not hearing Borland's name called next year. He was the David Lighty of OSU Football, seems like he has been on the team for a decade.
sidenote: LolZ I will never forget the OSU Basketball Mural Post that had Lighty in every picture playing with every team back to the 50s. That was right up there with the Joe Bauserman passing chart post.

I agree with someone earlier on here about Werner, when he was first a starter I thought he was terrible but this year he was one of our more consistent players on defense, and even last year too. He definitely got better each year.

Werner's speed for a middle backer is WAY above "average", 4.6 is not "average". Why does the NFL combine time 40s?? What quantifies "football speed"? Was Spielman "average" due to his "average" speed? Give us the names out of the hundreds of Ohio State LBs who were faster than Werner? BTW, it is total ignorance and a LIE, saying I'm obsessing over Usain Bolt.

^^^ lolZ ^^^ Welcome back kid <B Yeah. Came back to check on Willard boys and girls basketball. But then I check OSU threads and get stuck in idiotic arguments about Werner being the fastest Buckeye to ever wear a uniform, while running backwards. Exactly why I left in the first place. Bucknuts has all the up to date OSU stuff I need so I’m not sure why I even bother.

I'm sure most of you have the ability to carry on a discussion, without diminishing yourselves with personal attacks. You have the ability indeed, but not the willingness. There in, lies the problem. I value all of your opinions, as all of you have valuable and sometimes amazing insight on many things, especially Ohio State football. One negative insult, requires a counter response and so it goes down hill from there. Life's much too short for that kind of negativity....my friends.
