The guy has gotten better each year. I like watching kids who improve like that.

He’ll basically be like a 5 year starter(lower minutes as a freshman but so much experience). We desperately needed front court depth so this is big, hopefully they land Efton Reid as well.

Joey Brunk just announced he’s transferring to Ohio State from Indiana. Didn’t play last year due to injury but the year before was a full time starter. Lots of experience he brings and at 6’11 will be nice size for our front court. That makes two transfers Holtmann picked up this off-season from other Big Ten schools.

Some are assuming Ohio State has effectively taken itself out of the race for Efton Reid, including the staff of 11 Warriors. I'm not so quick to buy into that assumption. My guess, Holtmann's staff will continue to recruit Reid with vigor and Reid shouldn't be deterred by a one and done bandaid remedy, in making his decision. Many question marks on the extent that Brunk can contribute, first of which is his back condition. I think the biggest help will be putting a body on some of the many good, big men we face during the course of the year. How often did we have our undersized front line getting in foul trouble, trying to defend the big centers? Now, we can go to a 2-3 when necessary, giving liddel and Young the ability to play at their natural position. I would imagine Brunk at 6-11 255, can be an effective screen for EJ and Young.

We got better in two areas that were really really needed. On ball defense at the guard position. Wheeler All Big 10 Defensive team. C position guy who has great size and bulk in the middle for defense and rebounding and just depth from a guy who started many games already. OSU is going to be very very good I think.

Unfortunately they are out of the race for Reid now. He’ll be going to either LSU or FSU it looks like.

Utill we hear it from Efton Reid's mouth, it's much too early to write him off....IMO.

Kyle Young coming back sealed the deal for Reid not signing with Ohio State.

If Washington returns OSU will have 8 players listed as seniors next year i saw that stat too, definitely makes the following season very interesting, especially if Liddell ends up leaving too after his junior year. It’ll be interesting to see how many of them stay for their free extra year.

How many of the 8 listed as seniors will provide good minutes?

Last year's minutes of the Seniors
6th yr Sr. Joey Brunk 19.6 minutes/game as a Junior at Indiana 6th yr Sr. Seth Towns 9.8 5th yr Sr. Jamari Wheeler 31.2 at Penn State 5th yr Sr. Justice Sueing 27.7 5th yr Sr. Kyle Young 27.5 5th yr Sr. Jimmy Sotos 11.0 Senior Duane Washington 31.1 Senior Justin Ahrens 20.0
The only other players that will see significant minutes next year are Zed Key and EJ Liddell, if he comes back
When was the last time a team from a Power 5 Conference had 8 Seniors on their roster? Especially with those kind of minutes returning

I the two guys return, and the Freshman Branham abd Etzler give us anything productive,,,no reason we shouldnt be Top 10 and vie for the Big Ten Title along with a strong Tourney run.

If Washington and Liddell both return(which I would assume both do), that means essentially our whole team returns except Walker. I don’t see the freshmen getting too many minutes, just not enough to go around with that many guys returning from last year, plus adding Wheeler and Brunk in the transfer portal.

Terry Johnson leaving the staff to join Purdue. Seems like an odd lateral move.

Ladies & gentlemen, may I present to you, the new assistant basketball coach at The Ohio State University: Assuming his new role as coach of the low-post big men is......Curt Kasabb (former h.s. coach of Efton Reid)
We all have our dreams, don't we?

SO...instead they play them when they aren't good enough to make the rotation, possibly leading to a loss, just so they won't transfer? Dumb and dumber. ALSO....players are always in the discussion and part of the decision making process concerning red shirting.

Good enough when they don't have 10 lettermen ahead of them. One needs to add 20 pounds, the other needs to develop a 3-point shot. I'm not recruiting them, Holtmann's thing is to develop and have a bunch of Juniors and Seniors playing. You haven't figured that out yet?

Then why are arguing about playing them so they don’t transfer? Worried they be part of that 1/4 million that is the transfer portal? 😂

I don't think they'll transfer if they don't play this year, that's silly.

Bottom line is it's way too early to tell. There have been guys I thought would start from day one, who never quite made it on the floor. Others like Evan Turner who started a pinch slow but ended up being an absolute stud and POY.

In Holtmann's last presser he said that several coaches from top high major programs he's talked to, said they were only going to recruit players from the Transfer Portal, no longer recruiting Freshmen. Implying the success in recruiting one and done players was not the same and more success was being seen with rosters of Junior and Senior players.
