I was at Ashland Community stadium this morning getting a run in and noticed that the old wooden visitors bleachers have all been replaced with aluminum bleachers. I'm sure fans from visiting schools will be happy about that.

I saw where Mansfield Senior has been practicing 5 days a week, every week, since the first of June. Allowable this year, but all other coaches in the area didn't think it was a good idea for high school kids.

Final week of scrimmages. And OCC teams have ones that would be good to watch?

Teams final records my guess see how close I get
Ashland 7-3 (5-1) West Holmes 8-2 (5-1) Wooster 5-5 (4-2) Mansfield 5-5 (4-2) Lexington 3-7 (2-4) Mt. Vernon3-7 (1-5) Madison 1-9 (0-6)
Just for fun New Philadelphia 6-4
If no serious injuries occur. I’m not ready to give any OCC team an undefeated league season

Ashland is going to have to pull it together fast if they want to compete for the OCC this year. From the sounds of it, the scrimmage at Dover Friday was not good. They are dealing with a few injury's to some key players, but with so many new starters on both sides of the ball they are going to have to come together quickly.

Although Dover is a valuable scrimmage opponent, they may not be a good team to assess that a team is bad. I would predict that many good teams would not or do not, look good against Dover in scrimmages.

I would say that Dover is the best school that anyone in the OCC scrimmaged this fall I think you may be correct, and that is why I would say getting beat by Dover in a scrimmage does not necessarily mean you are a bad team. The best OCC team may not look good against Dover.

Final OCC Predictions
1. Mansfield- The Tygers seem to have size and great athletes all other the place. If they come together as a unit we could see them go a couple rounds deep in the playoffs.
2. West Holmes- I really don’t know much about the Knights but the seem to be returning a decent amount from last years team.
3. Madison Rams- I may kick myself later for this pick but I hope I don’t have to. Madison has the pieces in place to have a good season. They have good athletes and a returning QB. They also have good size on the line. If they come together as one they may just have a good season.
4. Ashland- The Arrows will be replacing alot of key spots this year. If they play anything like they did against Dover this last week it may be a long season. However the Arrows usually are atleast 500 on the season.
5. Wooster- The Generals will be replacing basically the whole team along with their head coach. From what im hearing the cupboards may be empty. I guess only time will tell.
6. Lexington- They return a D1 baseball recruit at QB. Also returning after a couple year absence is Coach G. If the young Minutemen buy in quick who knows Lexington may end up higher.
7. Mount Vernon- No one really ever knows anything about the Jackets. However if history repeats itself like it almost always does for the Jackets it could be another long season. Who knows though maybe they have the best team they’ve ever put together.
The OCC if going to be the same as it always is competitive with some upsets Im sure. However In my Opinion its Mansfield and everyone else this year with maybe West Holmes having something to say about it in the end. Look for the OCC to get 4-5 teams into the playoffs after being expanded.

Final OCC Predictions 3. Madison Rams- I may kick myself later for this pick but I hope I don’t have to. Madison has the pieces in place to have a good season. They have good athletes and a returning QB. They also have good size on the line. If they come together as one they may just have a good season.
For them to finish 3rd they would have to have a great season.

I guess we will have to wait and see. If a team that has gone 2-37 in the last four years all of a sudden goes 4-2 in OCC play, I doubt that anyone would debate it is a GREAT season.

Are we really using "great" and "historical" in the same breath as Madison? But then if Ontario could go 6-4 last year, surely Madison can this year

I just wish they would have replaced that head coach. Hes not the guy for the job. They need to hire someone on the younger side. If the coaches do their job and players come together they havebthe talent this year to be good

After having a few conversations this week I see where Ashland is heading into week one and why their scrimmage went the way it did vs Dover. They are still dealing with some key injuries that will linger into the first half of the season. Hard to replace all they have had to and deal with key guys out to start the year.

What did everyone think about Lexington vs Ontario? Honestly Lexington looks like a pretty decent team. I know Ontario is very young and it showed last night for sure. However Lexington looks like they may just have themselves a decent season. Having Coach G back probably helps a little also. Maybe Lexington is the dark horse in the league this year and not Madison. I guess only time will tell.

Lex is much improved and better than most think. Would not be surprised is they upend Shelby next week. People forget that the whippets lost the horses up front on both sides of the ball to graduation, plus a stud running back.

Its a good start for Lexington, I will wait and see what they do vs Shelby. I think Ontario looks like a team that didn't work on tackling until this week. Not going to win many games if you cant make a tackle. Good start though for Lex, that's a game they should win every year.

Just noticed Triway had their first two games cancelled because of Covid. West Holmes will now play Bishop Watterson at home tonight. Probably a better test for them.

Probably one of the closest games Ontario will have this year. Maybe they can have a closer game against Pleasant

Well either Shelby is going to be Very good or Madison is going to be very bad. I really had high hopes for Madison. Like Ive said before Madison has to get rid of the coach. He may just be worse then the lst one. Wish Conway would comeback.

Learned some stuff this week.
Ashland- way better then anticipated but not shocked due to Ashlands History. Couple mistakes caused them a win.
Madison- needs a new coach today. Not what I was expecting last nigt.
West Holmes-The Knights may just be the real deal. Beating a bug private school like Watterson isnt easy.
Lexington- beat up on a bad team but also looks like a decent team. We will se exactly where they are at this week against Shelby
Mansfield- has alot of talent but needs to finish drives. Should have been a blowout last night. Line play needs to get better. They have alot of size. The sophmore QB is better then the senior in my opinion.
Mount Vernon- Yellow Jackets got beat by Harding which tells alot unless Harding just became the Harding of the 90s.
Wooster- Dont know much but they beat Orrville 30-6. So either Orrville just isnt good this year or Wooster is beast. Im going to say Orrville is down.
