reads like it was an interesting game. Lotta scoring usually makes it exciting. Also, the kicking question was answered in the article as well. Seems like two teams that will make some noise in their respective leagues.

Out of all the years I lived up there and followed football in that area I never understood with how many kids are in that school and Bellevue never seems to have a true kicker. It almost seems like that aspect of the game they don’t really care about. Not trying to start a ten page fight about this and maybe someone could add more to this for me.

This game very likely set a new Bellevue record for most points scored in a loss and the first loss when scoring at least 40 points. I have a nearly complete list of Bellevue scores going back to 1944, plus around 80% of the scores between 1921 and 1943 (and only a handful of pre 1921), and I would tend to doubt there are any 40 point losses hiding in the missing data.
The previous record holder was the 51-39 loss to Norwalk in 2013, followed closely by a 40-38 loss to Bucyrus in 1958. After that there are several 34's and 33's from the past 21 years.

It almost seems like that aspect of the game they don’t really care about. This is quite literally true. I was just talking with a former player yesterday (class of '16) who said they never once worked on any aspect of special teams in practice, just a little bit during the pregame warm up. It's possible that's an exaggeration, but I'd say not by much. We're pretty much always giving teams good field position right after we score due to either short kickoffs or poor coverage when the ball does go a decent distance, we've muffed so many punts over the years that I'm never all that mad when a kid lets a ball drop at the 20 and roll inside the 5 because I'd rather it be our ball at the 2 than their ball again at the 18, and the only thing we have going for us is the QB pooch punt from near midfield that teams never seem to catch onto, which means we can usually boot a line drive and then freely down the ball without any returners to contend with. The one regular punt I remember from Friday went further up in the air than it did downfield. As for PATs, the only years we even attempt any are when there's some sort of gimmicky situation where a kid is coming in with some sort of previous kicking experience. One year it was a girl with soccer experience who transfered in, one year it was a foreign exchange student, and there have been several offensive lineman and QB's who had worked on kicking at the lower levels (some were at ICS, possibly all of them?) And as soon as any PAT does get missed during one of those years we're usually right back to going for 2 for the rest of the night unless the situation is obvious or the game becomes a blowout. Field goals are entirely out of the question, we still haven't made one since 2003 and that might be the most recent attempt as well.

Witnessed the 2003 FG. Of all nights, it was cool temps and downpour rain. XBP pretty much gave me the night off, Ha!
