I can't fathom what it is going to take to get Willard football back to even a 500 team most years. Playing games against teams that are far superior in the non league is not the answer though. Honestly, I think they will have a shot against vermilion. It’s interesting you say that. In 2018, Willard played the River teams for their conference schedule, and they finished 4-3 vs. the River teams. Not great, but respectable. Since that season upon being moved to the Bay, Willard is a combined 1-25. their only win: 11/1/2019 vs. Vermilion. It’s pretty clear those kids will be big underdogs until that final home Senior night game vs Vermillion. Hope they can pull off the win, to avoid another no win season. Hate to see any team/program go through that. The answer is simple: to be a .500 team, Willard has to play River level teams. Or this will probably continue. I truly wish those kids good luck, especially with the Vermillion game at the end of the year. Not trying to kick anyone while their down but,................. 2 of those 4 wins were against River teams now playing 8-man. Maybe they should apply to that new 8-man football league. Sorry

The Sandusky Drug Mart didn't close, it was relocated from an old building on Perkins Ave to a new building on US 250. It's right across the street from OVH.

Honestly, I think they will have a shot against vermilion. hmmmmmmm .. um no sorry! Vermilion is getting better.. slowly but surely. Wished they could get a win too,,, but i don't see it.. and gotta wonder how much longer before it evaporates. I do not see them getting better, we will have to agree to disagree on that. The difference is, I think both teams will see this as a winnable game. Vermilion to me... is in the same boat as Willard

is there any chance Willard can play in the River now that the SBC likely has to shuffle their league around with Oak Harbor out?

Two other things that factor into willards numbers negatively are the amount of kids that grow up in this town without a parent that follows sports. Over half the school has zero interest in sports.

Honest question. I ask this because my son falls into this catagory. Kid has great size along with four friends meaning between 6'1 and 6'3 200 to 225 pounds. Just started getting stronger with the weight program. They are on the team however they don't have the drive to compete. They may never see the field. How can we get those kids to the next level.

Lower level enrollment numbers are between 80-90 kids a class. It’s not a matter of if it’ll happen it’s when it happens.

Love this question. I feel as if Willard doesn’t have competitive practices anymore. Kids don’t compete. Once you are handed that starting spot they put into their minds that it’s there spot till they graduate. It should be a competition every single week day in and day out for spots. 1 on 1’s everyday. Hitting each other everyday. Always getting better. Once kids learn how to compete in practice they will compete in games. IMO This doesn’t make any sense. Willard barely has enough kids to field a team. Who are they competing against? You say they should compete for spots, who’s going to replace them? Maybe instead of all these analogies or excuses or opinions on what to do, maybe everyone can just agree that there just isn’t much talent?

Northwood would love a spot too I’m sure. Add Willard, watch new league form. Don’t like the travel and it’s not D7 schools responsibility to revive their program.

With the rules on full contact in practice this is impossible. Now on game night when someone isn’t getting the job done, next man up!

I think they should let Northwood in and get to 8 and break off and be their own league separate from the SBC. Not sure where that leaves Willard or Huron when they drop to Div. 5.

Historically the River teams, many who were early SBC schools should keep the league and the bigger schools should leave.

How can you not see the field when you're between 6-1 and 6-3 and 200-225?? The drive to compete comes from home OR is in the DNA
