A new season about to start for the defending NBA Champions
So now that Cleveland has had its first title since 1964, we now move on to our first attempt at title defense since 1965.
Preseason starts October 5. Regular season opener is Tuesday October 25th at home vs. New York.

Here we go. Going to be tough to repeat but it was tough to come back down 3-1 with 2 of those games on road.

it's a two team league
regular season is gonna be hella-boring, the West ain't what it used to be, especially since Golden State went Borg on OKC

I know I don't like Khloe Kardashian hanging around this team.

I doubt they repeat. It is very hard to do. I see a deep run but Golden State is absolutely loaded. I could see GS with less than a half dozen losses.

Golden State knew they couldn't beat the Cavs unless they added another "star". One isn't enough.

Golden State may rest players and do different things this year. They are using setting regular season record last year as an excuse so we will see how they play it. For the Cabs we just need to stay healthy and the Finals is a given. Then you never know.

Rings passed out, banner raised, and a nice blowout to start the year.....and it was only the 2nd biggest sports event of the night in Cleveland

GS will not come out of the West. They broke that team, and it's only a matter of time before Klay Thompson revolts. My bold prediction is that he will be traded in the off season after GS gets ousted early in the playoffs.
Press-ure. Under pres-sure.

Had a Truck Driver in my office earlier this week make the same claim. See's GS weaker not stronger due to breaking up the role players on that squad that had made them so tough the last two years.

imho what adding Durant does is steal a position from GS while also taking away shots from Klay and (to a lesser extent) Curry...this is bad for GS to the extent that you want to get more shots for those two not less, and when Durant is taking shots you are less your SF on the boards
the odds of all 3 of them being on every night for a 7-game series is remote at best
Iguodala-dala-bills's minutes are going to decline yet again. He was the guy who put that team over the top in 2015 in the Finals. Who do you think LeBron would rather see on the floor? James dominates Durant with his athleticism, while Iguodala is at least in LeBron's class in terms of pure ahtleticism.

I've watched every Golden State game this season. They're still very good but also have more flaws compared to last season. For starters losing Bogut was a huge loss for this team. He was a tremendous screener/passer and anchored that defense. I bet he set 15 screens a game where a shooter would come wide open because of it. Losing an athletic big like Ezeli hurts.
ZaZa, David West, Andy......They have no athletic bigs. AI and Livingston are a year older and honestly I would be shocked to AI make it through the season with his back issues.
It's early but there's certain things I've watched that aren't fixable with the current roster.

They are still an awesome team, but they had to have everything go right for them in 2015 (Irving and Love injured, Iguodala and Speights playing lights out) to win. I don't think they are as good a team as they were last year but shoot they could still win the whole thing, no doubt. It's not like the West is loaded anymore.

Bottom line is, Golden State HAD to do something. They could not beat the Cavs in a 7 game series with the roster they had last year. OR the year before if the CAVS were healthy.

Perfect fit for Korver. Open 3's galore. Good rotation player for Cavs to keep minutes off the big three with JR out. Don't think he gets many minutes in playoffs if JR is 100%.

Iguadala is shell of his former self. Korver could defend him for few possessions. The warriors only play 7/8 guys. Their lack of depth is going to catch up to them

I think the doctor is correct that you can't play Korver much against GS. You could try to hide him on Iggy for a few but GS will run Korver into a couple screens to force a switch and then Korver is guarding Clay or Curry. That's bad...not because Korver is a terrible defender but because we don't want to get into 3 point shoot-outs with the Warriors. IMO our game plan against GS is three-pronged: 1) Out-rebound them 2) Exploit our offensive match-up advantages, which are Kyrie & LeBron(and maybe a little Love this year) 3) Play tight, physical and relentless defense on Curry and Clay to get them tired, frustrate them and take them out of their game.
Korver could kill us on #3. He is smart and long but he doesn't have the foot speed and quickness needed to keep GS from bombing 3's. We need Shump, Kyrie and JR to fill that roll. Maybe we only Korver on the court for offense on some of those offense/defense end-of-quarter substitutions after foul shots. That's fine...anything we get from him in the playoffs is a bonus considering we got him for Dunleavy, Mo and a late pick. His real value is in eating regular season minutes while JR is hurt and keeping the floor spread so LBJ and Kyrie can penetrate and not get molested by 3 or 4 guys.
A few other things since this thread has been quiet. --I'm thrilled to see Love finally playing like I thought he could. I almost conceded on the Love/Wiggins debate but it now looks like we won the trade. We have a championship and an in-his-prime, possible HOF'er in Love. Wiggins is still very young and he looks to be very good at scoring but not so good at all the other aspects of the game. Until he starts rebounding, playing better defense and creating for team-mates, we got the better guy. --I'm telling you guys...LeBron is just incredible. I saw Bird, Magic, Dr J, Kareem, Shaq, all in or near their primes. LeBron is better. It's Jordan and Lebron, then everybody else. --But he is 32 and has played a buttload of NBA career minutes. Lue needs to reduce LeBron's minutes the 2nd half of the year and he knows it. --This is the golden age of the Cavs. Enjoy it.

Cavs getting beat up rn, Korver hasn't played well first 2 games. Should be better when he plays one in the land.

2-3 on a west coast road trip including a blowout loss at Golden State.
Nothing to get overly worried about in January.

Rotation changes aren't set in place yet, lot of shakeup with korver. Need JR back. But cavs will be making another trade soon.

Is it my imagination or do the Cavaliers play more back to back games than anyone else in the NBA?
