My understanding is this will be a one individual champion bracket while crowning 3 team division champions. To run it as a regular bracket would make it a two day tournament. To make it a one day tournament would have to take some modification of the bracket. Ohsaa only allows 5 matches in a day. If the bracket was broke down into two divisional brackets placing top 4 in each division then taking 1st & 2nd divisional placers for an overall SBC finals. The champions would wrestle for 1st & 2nd while the runner ups wrestle for 3rd & 4th place. To make an exciting final round an sbc divsion vs. an NOL divsion finals could make a better draw at the gate! Will they have a coaches meeting sooner or later to iron out these details. Does anyone have any insight? (I hear coaches want a one day tournament)

I heard that the modification to the bracket might be the semifinals. The loser would go for 3rd & 4th without dropping to the consolation semi finals. While any one dropping to consolations before semis could only wrestle back for 5th & 6th place. This would eliminate a 6th match in one day for a 16 man bracket. But I do believe we will have 19 teams with wrestling which could cause another problem unless they do a rat tail where loser would be out.

Isn't there only 13 teams that have wrestling? If so you'll be lucky to have 10 guys in a weigh class. St. Wendelin has 2, Calvert 6 or 7, SSM doesn't have a full, Lakota missing couple weighs, Huron missing a couple, Port Clinton 7 or8. Who besides Oak Harbor, Edison, Perkins, Clyde have a full team?

I don't even think Perkins and Clyde have full rosters either.

I see no reason to bring the divisions into this. Wouldn't mind this being a two day tournament but I understand why the coaches would want a one day tournament.

Since it sounds like only 2 of the 13 schools participating, out of an 18 school league, have full rosters and several have only a few wrestlers, there could be a weight class/classes with 6-7 or fewer wrestlers. 5th and 6th place awards in those classes are no better than participation awards. IMO there aren't enough wrestlers to wrestle and award points for 5th and 6th place.

19 schools; Columbian, Shelby, Bellevue, Norwalk, Sandusky, Willard, Perkins, St. Mary's, Margaretta, Huron, Clyde, Oak Harbor, Vermillion, Port Clinton, Edison, Calvert, St. Joe, St. Wendelin, Lakota..... there will be way more than 6 or 7 in every weight class but if one weight gets to 17 then you could run into a problem. The league will actually be a 21 team league with New Reigal & Old Fort not having a wrestling program. Then just 18 with football with wendelin not having football as well.

I don't think the divisions will be a big deal. Each weight class will have one individual champion while the highest placing team for the three division will just be acknowledged as division champ. So a team in 9th place in the small division could be "river champs" as long as other river teams place lower in team scores.

Also guys after rereading the posts I think you guys might be talking about this year's SBC tournament. I called this topic "New" SBC tournament as in next year's tournament. Also then will the SBC have three divisions with 19 schools with wrestling.

16 Man Bracket. Must get to Semis to get top 4. No consi Semi Final.
One Day Tourney. Lakota is likely host. Five Mats. HUGE gym.
Biggest weight class (taking this years numbers is 14).
Going to be a meat grinder. There are some very good kids in the current SBC.

Does anyone know if they officially awarded Bay and River Division Team Champions at this year's tourney? I see that SMCC scored the most team points of the River schools and was curious if they were officially awarded?

Going to be a meat grinder. There are some very good kids in the current SBC. I don't know that much about the teams in this now... heck, I don't really know all that much about the now defunct NOL anymore... However, in the event you have a weight class over the 16, you simply drop a rattail match in between unseeded wrestlers. Granted, someone will have a short day, but you could also make up with an exhibition match for the loser of the rattail and another first round loser. The MHSAA does this frequently when they have simply too many teams at their district individual tournament, which is akin to OHSAA Sectionals. If you are an unseeded wrestler there, you have the chance of a single match and your day is done. Happened to a few of my kids when I started a varsity program here back in 2001. We just weren't good and a few ended up in rattails that first year. Just a simple way to get the less talented mat time and still achieve the max number of matches in a day.

I heard today that Hopewell-Loudon decided to join the SBC for 2019. This will bring wrestling up to 21 schools. Gonna be a tight 16 man bracket.

Would Mansfield Madison joining the SBC with another OCC team, say Mansfield Senior or Lexington, change the current format of the conference tournament? In anybody's opinion anyhow!
