Yeah, that 1988 Division II District was crazy
As an aside, Mansfield had a solid year; Malabar went to State, Senior was Regional Runner-up, and St. Pete was in Regional Semi. Typically, both city schools played Linden McKinley and usually won, but they got the better of Senior in Regional Title Game
Also, the scores! Malabar/Senior combined for 9 games breaking triple digits with former doing it 3 straight games and latter twice on successive games

I think the most likely upset would be Senior over Bellevue. But Perkins played Sandusky close. Shelby will also have to play Ontario(more than likely) twice in one week. Always tough to beat the same team three times in a season. "Always tough to beat the same team three times in a season."Further instance (and ideology) as to why Galion chose to play Willard, as opposed to other (MOAC) teams that they've already played twice thus far this season. There is a certain logic to that decision. Also easier to convince a team they can beat the school with a similar record of a team they've already lost twice to.

Had Senior and Malabar been merged in 88 I don’t know that they could have been beaten. A one-two punch of Dapries Owens and Brian Buford would have been tough to stop.

Bellevue played Malabar in the 70s and 80s but I don't remember them playing Senior. Of course, my mind is slipping!! Malabar and Bellevue were 1-1. Senior is 7-2 vs Bellevue.

My take on the Ashland...
Mansfield Sr. is playing as well as anyone right now in the district. They beat Columbus Eastmoor Academy by 23 and Trotwood Madison on overtime. The game with Sandusky went down to the wire. It will be interesting to see if Owens will be back for possible rematch with the Blue Streaks. Not to mention tonight against Lex.
Lexington is also playing well right having clinched a share of the OCC title with a 23 point win at Wooster. They also knocked of a very good Shelby team Tuesday night which was the 2 seed in the district draw. Waiting for a possible rematch with the Whippets in a couple of weeks. Lex did lose to an ultra tough div III opponent in Ottawa Glandorf. The Titans could get back to the state finals in div III. Not to mention would be the favorite in the Ashland district.
Sandusky is 20-1 and is very athletic. They have had some very tough games with the OCC foes as of late in Mansfield Sr. and Madison. The Rams took the the Streaks to overtime this past Tuesday. A late technical foul seems to be the difference in that one. They are the #1 seed so they are definitely a tough out.
Shelby is the MOAC champion and the #2 seed in the district. Shelby lost a tough one to Lexington at home on Tuesday night. But they still have arguably the best player in the district in Bruskotter. It will be interesting if Lex and Shelby meet up again in the district Semi.
Bellevue the #4 seed at the time of the draw. At least in paper does not stack up to the previously mentioned teams. But the games aren't played on paper. They will open up with Mansfield Sr. next week. Will Bellevue prove me wrong. We shall see. They have done it before. 1988 district semi Bellevue 61 Lex 60 on a buzzer beater shot from about 40 feet by the Redmen's John Odo.
I will be a homer and take Lex over Sandusky in the district final. But it wouldn't surprise me if anyone of my top 4 teams would win it.

Call me crazy but I would not be surprised to see Norwalk give it hell vs Senior. Those kids and that program has a lot of pride. The Tygers might want to focus on the first one.

Your right no disrespect to Norwalk here by not mentioning them. Norwalk is very capable of hanging in with Senior.

Your right no disrespect to Norwalk here by not mentioning them. Norwalk is very capable of hanging in with Senior. Norwalk could give Sr High problems. Lex/Sr High game was on tv tonight and if you would have told me that Lexington, Already being down 2 players in their rotation would lose another starter in the first quarter and playing 2 jv kids for minutes would take Sr High into OT on their home floor I would have called you nuts. For almost 3 quarters tonight Lex was without 3 of their top 7 players and still had a chance. Now the question is will they get any of them back before tournament?

Does Willard Fillmore still think that Ontario was trending up!? It's all about the schedule.
My predictions for the opening round. Perkins over Vermilion by 65-46. Mansfield over Norwalk 65-61. Ontario over Clear Fork 59-52 Willard over Galion 72-54
Predictions for the sectional finals. Sandusky 77 Perkins 71 Mansfield Sr. 56 Bellevue 52 Shelby 66 Ontario 50 Willard 57 Lexington 56

Willard not as tall as Lex. If they can slow down the Freshman without getting in foul trouble they can compete with Lex. We’ve got a top 3 that’s about as good as anyone in the District . Bottom 4 is just ok not great. Our coaches will have us ready .

I think Shelby or Lex will win the district. Sandusky is a really good team with great athletes like Moore and Green, but it seems too good to be true always betting on the number 1 team every time.

The chance for an upset is everywhere in this bracket top to bottom. #8 Perkins took #1 Sandusky to the wire in regular season. #9 Norwalk over #5 Mansfield. #5 Mansfield is better then #4 Bellevue. #5 Mansfield could take out #1 Sandusky. #11 Clear Fork forced OT in it's last game with #7 Ontario. #10 Galion could match up well with #6 Willard and scrimmaged in Nov. #6 Willard could bother #3 Lexington. #3 Lexington has proven they can beat #2 Shelby. #2 Shelby or #3 Lexington could challenge #1 Sandusky if any of those 3 teams get to the District Final. It may be safe to say this bracket will not following the seeding for wins.

Senior beats Lex, Lex beats Shelby. Never mind the overall body of work for the season. And there’s no way either of those top two teams could even come close to competing with teams 3-5. Heck #8 Ontario took down Crestview. So by his logic the Warriors should be #2.
