Two weeks ago Shelby was down at the half in the district semifinals to Senior. Some questionable officiating and a better second half helped Shelby win that game. Today they are practicing for a state semifinal game.

Unless you are in a big school conference chances are you are seeing plenty of questionable officials. The last couple of years have been pretty brutal at times and it will likely get worse. I'm not saying that there aren't good crews but there are far more "gaps" than ther used to be. This coming from a guy who often attends games and has no dog in the fight. Maybe it's different in your part of the state.

To change course a little, I have Shelby as the 7th Richland County school to reach State?

When was St. Pete's last appearance? 1990 I remember seeing St. Peter play Sandusky St. Mary during the run they had during the early to mid-70's. There was a player named Greg Givens who had a monster night. IIRC, they had like 3-4 consecutive 20-win seasons during that time.

Maysville 68 Shelby 65 Final Great game. Up for grabs for either team. Maysville had 4 Sophs on the floor at one time.

What a season for the Whippets! It will be remembered for years in the Shelby community. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.
Looking ahead to 24-25, who are the MOAC favorites? Marion? R Valley? Can Shelby find a way to win another title after the graduation of this special senior class?

Two differences in the game. Turnovers were around 10-2 and Maysville made more threes. They had a slightly lower shooting percentage, but more were threes.

I would not be surprised if all those stats were the normal for these two teams. Shelby probably saw 8-10 turnovers a game all season and Maysville is a little more conservative with the ball. I’d guess Maysville made more threes than most teams they played.

Hats off to Shelby on a great tournament run. Extremely tough competition from District to State. Not one spec of shame going 4-1 in those games.
Any idea about Casey Lantz college plans? I know of one college coach i spoke to who would dearly love to have him on his roster next year.

Great tournament ride and while we ended up on the losing end Saturday this has been without a doubt the most enjoyable boys basketball season I’ve ever watched. What a dedicated group of young men who put in so much time behind the scenes to become better players. As a fan you hope this rubs off on the younger kids so they understand what it takes to go that far. Alex Bruskotter is going to walk away with oodles of school records and is hands down the best player to come out of this school since Seigfried. Heard he will leave with all the three point records, all time assists leader, second in points, and possibly the all time rebounds record. Is now headed to Italy this week to play on a select team against other countries. Real special honor for a special kid.

Baden Forup from Lex would probably enjoy having Casey Lance on Capital's team with him. Baden had a heck of a freshman year at Capital. He was rookie of the year in their conference.

It was really hard watching this Shelby team lose. Bruskotter rose up to the occasion in a manner that made anyone proud. He was exactly who he was supposed to be. Hard to knock the rest of the crew, you beat teams like Mansfield, Lex, survive Lutheran West in that fashion, and lose by a bucket in the state semis. It is so hard to play top basketball when you are faced against a whale of an opponent each game. I did think Shelby could wax Maysville, but it was reminiscent of that Mansfield game where they wouldn't quit. Maysville made the extra few shots. Lantz and Ramsey were the ideal 2 and 3 men for this team. It simply didn't work out, but I'll miss this team for quite a long time.

Exactly what you could expect from a team with 4 seniors starting, 2 of them with 4 years of varsity experience and the other 2 with 3 years.

Clear Fork Lexington Malabar Mansfield Senior Mansfield St. Pete Ontario Shelby I guess it depends on how you define Richland County school. Ashland and Loudonville have a small part of their district in Richland County and they have both been to the state BBall Tournament. I assume Richland has the schools with state appearances in the North Central Ohio area but I've never seen a list by county. education.ohio.gov/getattachment/Topics/Data/Ohio-Educational-Directory-System-OEDS/2016-School-District-Map.pdf

I’ve been watching Alex and Casey since 5th grade CYO ball and could tell from that early age these two would be something special. They made their senior year something special for sure, something that this lifelong Whippet won’t ever forget. My dreams came true with their state appearance over the weekend. And the city showed up in masses to support them just like I thought they would. Even seeing my old high school coach and some teammates made the day even more special. Hard to complain when all that occurred. Yes things didn’t turn out the way we wanted but in the great perspective of things it was an awesome experience.

Alex definitely did something special and is still today as he plays in Italy. Just like Pugh, Ingle, Arnold, Dudics, Sommer and Schwemley he has earned his place as one of the greatest high school basketball players in Shelby history.
