Cedar Point closed Mean Streak this year, after 26 seasons of operation. However, this does not spell the end for that massive wooden structure that has dominated the back of the park since 1991.
As has long been the dream of coaster enthusiasts and also the buzz of rumors this year, it is now clear that Mean Streak will be undergoing a conversion by Rocky Mountain Construction. Nothing has been officially announced by Cedar Point yet, but RMC is already onsite doing work on the structure. It will be very interesting to see what the layout ends up being, as well as what new name they will come up with for it. The biggest question at this point is whether this will be open for the 2017 season or not until 2018.
For those unfamiliar with Rocky Mountain Constriction...they are a company known for taking wooden coasters and remaking them into this:

Yikes. The Mean Streak was way neat back in the day mainly because of it's location. It would shake the crap out of you tho.

Has to be the worst roller coaster on the planet. Rode it one time about 5 years ago, and you couldn't pay me enough to ride it again.

I'm not the least bit heartbroken to see it go. That and the Corkscrew (hear me out before you send the pitchforks to my house) will knock ya senseless. The Corkscrew is actually a pretty good ride......UNTIL they slam on the brakes before you roll into the station and your head goes into the back of the headrest! If you're not ready for it, expect a nice headache.

Here's a look at some of the progress so far. Looking like this won't open until 2018.
Note, these tweets are not from Cedar Point, it's just someone leaking pics. The park has not said or announced anything about this project so far.
