I was surprised to see Norwalk picked as the champion by the media with what Bellevue has coming back. Strayer, Baptista, Carlson, Vogel, and the addition of another Santoro.

How did Norwalk do last season?

How did Norwalk do last season? Norwalk lost a must-win against Bellevue to lose out on part of the NOL title. They return all of their starters and main players from last year - seniors: DI commit Jiselle Thomas & Adrianna Rodriguez; juniors: Kaelyn Harkness (who missed part of last season with a knee injury), Jasmine & Jada Thomas, Lauryn Maloney, Bethany Cring, Leah Malson; and sophomore Marly Geretz. Add seniors Mya Ray (coming off a great tennis season), Caila Case, and Eboni Barbee. If they can come together and play as a team, I look for them to do well. As with any team, they don't do well when one person tries to do everything. Last season, their best games were the games when the underclassmen stepped up. Hopefully another year and work off-season together has increased their confidence. They begin tonight in Clyde.

Congrats to Norwalk winning both games this weekend in Clyde. They beat the tournament hosts Friday night in a close game, 68-65; and then blew out Fostoria Saturday night, 64 - 34.
Jiselle Thomas broke the school scoring record Saturday night with her first 2 points. She went on to score 30 in the game. She has the rest of the season to pad the record.
Should be a fun season for Trucker fans!

Ontario came back from a 7 point half time deficit to win 49-48 over Cardington, defending MOAC Blue Champs. Defense and 3-point shooting was the difference in the game. Ontario made 6 3-pointers, but was only 5 of 12 at the free throw line.

Ontario over Ashland 51-47 after being down by 16 in the 1st half. Ashland making a bunch of 3-pointers. Ontario came out in their full court zone press in the 2nd half and completely changed the tempo of the game. Ontario's 4 athletic 5-9 to 5-11 players are very good at disrupting a game with their press. Why wait until you're down by 16?
Another transfer is sitting out the 1st 11 games. A 6-0 Soph.

Shelby girls looked very solid Saturday in a big win in Willard. They play very unselfish ball and pounded it inside to Fidler and King. Not a lot of three pointers attempted like years past. Quick defensively and can play a variety of ways... both up tempo and slow down. Should be fun to watch this year in a very competitive last year of the NOL.

Congratulations to Norwalk for beating Ashland 58 - 32 last night. The win puts them at 5-0 for the season.
Jiselle Thomas was recognized at the game for not only breaking the girls' record, but for also breaking the boys' scoring record and becoming the all-time leading scorer at NHS. The Reflector recognized her today for becoming the city's all-time leading scorer after her 26 points vs Ashland moved her ahead of St. Paul's all-time leading scorer.
Norwalk is utilizing many players during the games - and it is fun to watch them play. All of the girls look so improved in the transition game - looking & expecting things.
Norwalk plays Mansfield Sr at Shelby on Saturday in the OCC/NOL challenge.

Should be an interesting race again this year. With their talent it would be difficult not to pick Norwalk. Judging from yet another transfer, and a 6 footer at that, does Ontario win the second half of the season again?

Piece of first place on the line tonight with Bellevue visiting Norwalk. Truckers loaded with some good talent plus looking for some revenge for last season. Redmen with some talent but probably not quite to the level of Norwalk. Teamwork could win this one.

Bellevue showed up ready to play. Rough game for Norwalk.
Bellevue has something special in the young Santoro - she made plays that were amazing - very talented!
Norwalk looked good in spurts, just couldn't keep it together and free throws are killing them. They need to get more girls stepping up to score, they did not shoot well in the fourth quarter. Turnovers/Fouls on which Bellevue capitalized.
Bellevue played a good team game - 3 girls in double digits.

Good recap in the Register about the game. Mjnster coach said "...we had three girls 6-foot out there, as well as two 5-9 kids..." I'm not sure Bellevue even has a starter that tall. Be a tough task to win at the District or Regional level given that disadvantage. They'll have a tough time with Shelby and Ontario when they get their new tall addition... then Norwalk again.
