The Buckeyes defeated Michigan 96-87 to extend their school record 8 straight games of scoring 87 or more points. This team is incredibly talented and with the transfer of Stephanie Malvunga, who was 1st Team All-ACC last year at North Carolina and ACC Freshman of the Year. Stephanie was Indiana Miss Basketball in 2013, besides making the USA team, McDonald's All-American. A 6-3 power forward who can run the floor and intimidate defensively. She broke the North Carolina record for blocked shots last year and is doing the same at OSU. She had 6 blocked shots vs. the Wolverines today. Of course, the best Ohio State basketball is not a man, but Kelsey Mitchell. Kelsey regularly pulls off highlight reel caliber moves, her reverse pivot spin moves just leave you shaking your head. Kelsey should own most every record when she finishes her career at Ohio State next season.
This team is going to be a force, come tournament time.

For Ohio State to be a "force" they should be beating teams like Michigan by 20+. To be a "force" even in the Big Ten they have to beat Maryland who is ranked 3rd in the country. To be a "force" they can't be losing by 15-20 to top teams UConn, Baylor and South Carolina. To be a "force" in THE Tournament they will have to beat one of the top 4 seeds, they haven't proven they can do that. Unlike men's basketball, top seeds rarely lose in the women's game. McGuff has proven himself to a "force" when it comes to recruiting, not so much as a coach yet. With arguably as much talent as anyone in the country. I hope I'm wrong. The Force be with you.

Good points I tend to agree with, but this is a very young and talented team. UConn dismantles everybody, so that one didn't shock anybody. They will be hosting Maryland in their next to last game, a nationwide telecast on ESPN2.

They just got blown out by Michigan State. They have a problem beating the top teams and have for a few seasons now.
Doesn't matter anyway because UConn is going to win the title again.

Whether it be men's or women's basketball, it is no secret, it's hard to win on the road in the B1G. This game is nothing to get excited about, they fall from the unbeaten ranks, but still the favorite to win the conference. I agree, UConn is indeed going to win the title, but no reason for all the other 348 women's teams in Division I to fold up and go home. Upsets happen all the time.

Haha, not saying they should fold up and go home. But every season right now you pretty much know UConn is going to win it.

Off topic, but there was a brawl between Utah St and Nevada women BB players last night, 8 players ejected. One came off the bench with an injured foot to participate. Don't often see that in women's sports.

Don't often see that in women's sports. These 'ladies' are quite feisty....lol Amazing how quickly the other girls jumped to the aid of their team-mates. As one might expect, the low post players were at the heart of this brawl. Enjoy a good cat fight now and then.....lol

Best part of that "fight" is the girl who hops over there on one leg.

The Buckeyes get a tough one at West LaFayette, 61-56. The Buckeyes (15-5, 5-1) spent the entire game chasing the Boilermakers after being outscored 20-6 in the opening quarter. The Buckeyes stepped up their defense in the final frame, applying a trapping full court press, holding Purdue (12-7, 3-2) to just eight points.
Ohio State's North Carolina transfer, forward Stephanie Mavunga extended her team lead in double-doubles to eight this season, with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while being named 'Player of the Game'.
The ladies square off against Wisconsin on the 19th.

If they are as talented as you purport they should beat MSU and Purdue by 20+. Not until then will they make a Final Four.

Obviously, you are not very familiar with this team and the high level of the recruits that comprise this team. With the extremely talented transfers and the young talent that are getting their first taste of collegiate ball, it is taking a while for the various parts to reach cohesion that will certainly happen. The future is very, very bright for Ohio State women's basketball. I think it will come down to the Buckeyes and the Terapins in the B1G tourney.

Iowa just came off an upset of Michigan State and playing as well as anybody in the league. The one girl can stroke the threes and got Iowa back in it late 4th qtr. with her marksmanship. Iowa reduced the Buckeyes to a half-court game, but after a time-out, the girls started pushing the ball up the court and separated themselves from their opponent. These girls run the court as well as anyone. Amazingly, they are averaging around 90 PPG. Having Stephanie Mavunga out with injuries is a big loss. She is a prolific player. Think she has a strained achilles and her return is in question at this point.

The Ohio State wome will host No. 2 Maryland in the Big Ten regular season game of the year Monday night at Value City Arena. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.
Maryland comes in at 26-1 overall and 14-0 in Big Ten play. Ohio State, ranked 12th, is 23-5 overall and 13-1 in Big Ten play. Maryland can clinch the outright Big Ten title with a win. Ohio State would need a win over Maryland as well as one at Rutgers next Sunday to get at least a share of the title.
The Buckeyes have won nine in a row, while Maryland has won 14 in a row since a Dec. 29th 6 pt. loss to No. 1 Connecticut (87-81), UConn's closest game of the year.
The Buckeyes will play without the services of sophomore Stephanie Mauvunga, the Big Ten's leading rebounder, (11.3 RPG) and 7th nationally. Mauvunga will reportedly, be out for several weeks and may miss the Big Ten tournament.

The Buckeyes came out red hot, putting up a 35 point 1st quarter! They sat back in a 2-3 zone early on, but Maryland began to adapt and figure out the zone and came within 2, after leading by as much as 15 at one point. They switched to a hustling man-to-man 2nd half, coupled with an aggressive full-court press that produced 8 steals. The ladies shot 63% from the field and 55% from three point range. Great win over the #2 ranked Terrapins!
These gals really know the game and with only one senior, next year promises to be one for the record books.

Buckeyes win a share of the Big Ten Championship with Maryland. This is OSU's first title since 2010, and 14th overall. They will be the #1 seed in the B1G Tournament.

Maryland defeated Minnesota 93-60 to earn a Big Ten Co-Championship with the Buckeyes.
Coach Kevin McGuff utilizes his deep and talented bench to full advantage. These ladies really go after an opponent with their up tempo, full-court trapping defense, rotating players in and out to maintain fresh legs and keeping the pressure on the opponent. Also love the 'push it up the court', high octane approach to the offense, averaging 90 ppg.
Let's hope Stephanie Mauvunga gets back on the court for the B1G tournament, or at least the NCAA tournament.

Congratulations to Kelsey Mitchell - Big 10 Player of the Year. This is her second time winning the award.
Mitchell, who was tabbed as the Big Ten Player of the Year by the conference coaches in 2014-15, helped Ohio State to a share of its 15th Big Ten Championship (first since 2010), leading the Big Ten and ranking fourth in the nation in scoring (23.4 ppg.), while standing second in the conference and fourth nationally with 3.33 three-point field goals per game. A four-time Big Ten Player of the Week with a conference-high five 30-point games this season, Mitchell ranks sixth on the conference’s all-time scoring list with 2,463 points, while placing fourth in Big Ten history with 353 career three-point field goals, 12 shy of the record set by Penn State’s Maggie Lucas from 2010-14.

It was one of those games that begs for an explanation. The Buckeyes were getting good looks at the basket, but continuously fielded shots way off the mark. Even Kelsey Mitchell was extremely erratic the entire game. Give Purdue credit for a great defensive effort and keeping most of the game on their half court game tempo. The sophomore Oden was lights out all game long from three point range. Very poised for a 2nd yr. player.

Poor job of coaching by McGuff and Mitching playing out of control, forcing shots and not passing to open teammates.
