The National runner-up Ohio State Wrestling team is loaded with hammers top to bottom. The Buckeyes are currently ranked #4 in the country.
Ohio State features past national champions Myles Martin (184 pounds) and Nathan Tomasello (125), No. 1-ranked Bo Jordan (174) and three other wrestlers ranked in the Top 10 in the country at their weight classes.
Heavyweight Kyle Snyder, the reigning NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist from the Rio games, who wrestles a partial schedule for the Buckeyes so he can compete in International events. He's presently at the U.S. training center.

Watched them host perennial wrestling power Oklahoma a couple weeks ago and I think they won the first 5 weight classes and never looked back.

Led by four individual champions, Ohio State won its second Big Ten team title in the past three years Sunday by upsetting defending national champ and No. 1-ranked Penn State.
Redshirt freshman Kollin Moore (197 pounds), and juniors Nathan Tomasello (133), Bo Jordan (174) and Kyle Snyder (heavyweight) each won an individual Big Ten title.

I was really happy for Bo Jordan last night. Down 7-2 late in the 2nd period,,kept fighting kept working and kept coming back,,finally had an opening to score with a 6 point move late and advance to the finals. Bo-who had a very storied HS career hadn't quite made the pinnacle of the NCAA tourney due to injury or just being matched up against that kid who was just a pinch better than he was---Tonight he can finish the season as an NCAA Champ. It won't be easy against this Penn ST kid who is very good, but is also just a Freshman. Bo defeated Hall last week in the big Ten Tourney but it took OT to make it happen. Really Hoping he can put it all together again tonight.

Would you explain what a 6 pt. move is? I love H.S. & collegiate wrestling, but my knowledge is limited to take downs, escapes, reversals and riding time etc.
Penn State has been awesome so far and the Buckeyes slipping to 5th has been somewhat of a disappointment so far.

a 6 point move is where a wrestler is taken down and put in a near fall position for a 3 count,,,HS is a 5 point move---thats the difference

One great wrestling meet between two titans of college wrestling, #1 Ohio State hosting #3 Iowa, before 15,000 rabid fans in the Schott! Iowa took an early lead, but Ohio State put four All-Americans out on the mat in a row. Some of the best wrestling I've seen in many years. Sorry, Philly and Jacksonville, this one had you beat by a mile.
The Ohio State University wrestling team was victorious in six of 10 bouts versus Iowa and garnered a 4-0 bonus point advantage to stifle the Hawkeyes, 22-12, in the Top-5 matchup. Ohio State remains unbeaten (10-0, 5-0 Big Ten) after handing Iowa (9-1, 4-1) its first defeat of the season.
Buckeye bonus tallies came courtesy of major decisions by Joey McKenna and Myles Martin, and Kyle Snyder's dominating tech fall to wrap up the day's festivities. Additional OSU victors included Luke Pletcher, Bo Jordan and Kollin Moore each posting fruitful decision.
Ohio State racked up 33 takedowns compared to just eight for the Hawkeyes. Iowa failed to record a single nearfall tally while the Buckeyes garnered 10 back points.
The afternoon began with an absolute grind of a match. Following a scoreless first period between Nathan Tomasello and Spencer Lee, Tomasello elected to start the second period on bottom where he remained for the entire two minutes. Lee then made the same decision to hit the referee's position, but was able to escape for the bout's first point. Tomasello would later notch the only takedown of the showdown to pull ahead 2-1. Lee would wiggle away again for the escape, however, to even the ledger at 2-all. Add on Lee's riding time advantage bonus point and the Hawkeyes jumped ahead 3-0.
Pletcher got after it swiftly, notching a pair of takedowns in the opening frame. He would go on to add another takedown, escape and riding time point to run his season record to 20-0 by topping Paul Glynn, 8-2.
At 141 pounds, McKenna rebound from his lone loss of the season last week with a resounding 13-3 performance. He compiled five takedowns, a two-point nearfall and riding time edge in putting Ohio State ahead 7-3.
The next three bouts all went in favor of the Hawkeyes, winning three in a row by a combined nine points. Iowa's spurt resulted in a 12-7 upper hand heading to the 174-pound bout.
The Buck stop stopped there (pun intended) when fifth-year senior Bo Jordan, competing for the final time in Columbus, bested Kaleb Young to spark an OSU victorious stretch which spanned the remainder of the match. "Bo-Jo" took down Young three times in the first period and never looked back en route to a 10-5 winner. It marked the start of a 15-0 Buckeye run to concluded the match.
Myles Martin took it up a notch at 184 pounds, recording his 20th win overall (20-0) and 18th bonus point-worthy effort of the year (eight tech falls, six major decisions and four pins). Despite facing a nationally-ranked opponent in No. 20 Mitch Bowman, Martin continued his point-scoring rampage and built a 12-1 gap before the start of the second stanza. Martin turned Bowman twice for four-point nearfalls and narrowly missed out on potential pinfall opportunities late in the scuffle.
The day's second of two Top-5 meetings pitted No. 1 Kollin Moore vs. No. 5 Cash Wilcke. The Buckeye redshirt sophomore would extend his unblemished season mark to 16-0 while delivering Wilcke just his second setback (13-1).
Snyder was a technician at heavyweight, administering seven takedowns in the opening 180 seconds after third-ranked Sam Stoll remained on the sidelines in favor of Steven Holloway. Snyder continued to pour it on, disposing of the heavyweight fill-in, 24-9, by the second period's conclusion.

Ohio State heavyweight Kyle Snyder is the #1 ranked hvt. in the country, undefeated and I believe the defending National Champion and gold medalist. Iowa scratched their undefeated and I believe #3 ranked hvt. (Sam Stoll) when it was apparent the outcome of the match would be of no significance to team outcome. Apparently, Iowa wanted to keep him undefeated for seeding purposes for the NCAA tournament that is soon to commence. Sure would have been a great ending to a great day of championship caliber wrestling.

This week’s National Wrestling Coaches Association/USA Today Team Coaches Poll, which was released Tuesday, has the 9-0 Nittany Lions ranked at the top with 396 points and 12 first-place votes, taking one of each from the No. 2 Buckeyes.
Meanwhile, Ohio State improved to 10-0 this week after holding off No. 4 Iowa in front of a scarlet-and-gray crowd of 15,117. Senior Nate Tomasello’s last home meet was spoiled by an upset from Iowa’s true freshman and Franklin Regional product Spencer Lee.
The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes will clash Feb. 3 at Rec Hall. But, first, Penn State must get by ranked foes Minnesota and Rutgers this weekend.
The Buckeyes take on MSU tonight at 7pm. It is televised on BTN plus.
The two titans of the wrestling world, Penn State and Ohio State, go head to head on Feb. 3rd.

Televised collegiate wrestling has evolved in so many ways in recent years. The quality of announcers and color commentators is par excellence, and the multiple camera work, with vantage and angle shots, instant replay on maneuvers is truly remarkable.

All Ohio State needed was a draw at 198, even though he was favored in the match. Take one for the team with a draw instead of trying to win and then lose.

This dual meet was billed as the 'dual meet of the millenium' and was everything they said it would be, before a sold out crowd at Rec Hall, where scalpers were getting a minimum of $97 and as much as $300 a ticket. The final outcome came down to bonus points, pure and simple.
Joey McKenna registered the biggest Buckeye triumph of the night, downing sixth-ranked and red hot Nick Lee at 141 pounds. McKenna, slotted No. 11 in the Intermat national rankings, squeezed out a 7-6 decision thanks to a 1:32 riding time advantage. Both grapplers posted two takedowns and two escapes, separated by just 92 seconds of McKenna grinding on top.
At 157, Micah Jordan put on a takedown clinic vs. Bo Pipher. Jordan racked up 11 takedowns and a reversal en route to a 24-9 tech fall which sent Ohio State into the locker room with a 15-5 advantage in-hand at intermission and feeling pretty good about there chances at that point.
The break in action kindled a hefty response from the Nittany Lions. A string of three straight top-ranked wrestlers took the mat for Penn State following intermission, each delivering victories including major decisions from Vincenzo Joseph and Mark Hall. Then, sophomore Anthony Cassar scored the upset of the evening, knocking off the nation's #1 ranked wrestler, in Ohio State's Kollin Moore. Cassar's 6-3 winner gave Penn State a 19-15 edge.
Kyle Snyder put the Buckeyes back in the win column with his 15-10 decision over No. 6 Nick Nevills, but it ultimately wasn't enough to sway the team total. Snyder owned a half dozen takedowns by bout's end, but just one more would have changed the outcome of the meet.

When Nickal got the major on Martin in the last 10 seconds it was surprising. He's a beast but still Martin had been doing really well and I thought he would hold on. But still Moore was undefeated so you expect a win at 197. It will be interesting at the Big 10 Tournament and the NCAA's. BTN does a good job with Wrestling. I've enjoyed the 4 shows I've watched this year.

I finally watched the NCAA tourney but some how I didn’t record the semifinals. I was really surprised to see all the Buckeyes in the medal round. Still, that Nichol/Martin 184 lb. match could have swung it for OSU. Martin had him on his back, gets a little off balance and boom , he’s pinned. Nichol is a beast.

I DVR’d the NCAA wrestling tourney over the weekend and watched it during commercials during March Madness games. Overall, I think the Buckeyes finished a distant 2nd to Penn State but there were some really exciting matches. Joey McKenna got screwed and finished 2nd. They had a scramble and somehow they said they both had takedowns with the Cornell guy also getting an escape. Joey then lost in OT. Myles Martin got reversed in the last few seconds and didn’t make the finals. Micah Jordan wrestled well but had a tough Finals opponent. Finally Kollin Moore did well but lost to Bo Nickals in the Finals. That guy is finally graduating.

Bo Nickal has been a force at PSU and yes, Moore wrestled him tough, only down 3-1 in the final minute, Nickal fended off continual shots by Moore and the match ended, with both wrestlers locked in a stalemate. Good to see college wrestling getting more coverage these days and attendance is up big time.

Agreed and it's about damn time. There has been a secret force behind wrestling for years and while some universities have shut down their programs, others are taking the bull by the horms and growing new programs. Womens wrestling- yes, womens - is going through a HUGE growth spurt as well. Eastern Michigan is a school that shut down their wrestling program and oddly enough, out of the wrestlers who were in the program and continued to wrestle at other universities, FIVE of them qualified for the NCAA's this year. See the article here: www.mlive.com/sports/ann-arbor/2019/03/five-ex-eastern-michigan-wrestlers-competing-at-ncaa-championships.html
