Buckeyes don't know how to win.
A friend told me a stat tonight that's unbelievable -- most consecutive 10-win seasons in the B1G; more than Tom Izzo! "Pretty good for a football school."

Bates-diop broke his leg last night. They'll be lucky to win 18 games let alone 20 and get in tourney. Next year I think they have a chance to turn the corner tho. Be a contender again. Decent class coming in.

Decent class coming in. He has a stress fracture, he didn't break it last night. Seems like over the last couple years we keep saying "we'll be better next year". The missed free throw at the end by Thompson was huge, would've put us up 1 with Purdue having to make at least one free throw to send it to OT.

Broken, fractured or whatever. He's still out for the season.

Broken, fractured or whatever. He's still out for the season. The point he was making was that it didn't happen last night. I think, unless he somehow turns it around and make the big dance, Matta will be out after this season.

I don't see them doing that to Matta at this point. In watching this years team play--I see improvement and better effort on the court. We have lost 5 games but were in a position to win all of them with a somewhat depleted young roster. If the lone Senior Marc Loving is the only departure onto next years roster--- we would add Kaleb Wesson a true Center and a big thick body who is having a really good Senior year at Westerville South along with a point guard who can shoot in Braxton Beverly from a strong Program Hargrove Military Academy. In addition you've got Derek Funderburke who red shirted this year and Keita (KBD) who should be healthy next season. This will allow them to move Potter to Power Foward and get bigger and stronger down low and bring some nice depth from the bench with guys who are experienced.
My bottom line thinking is---we are set up quite nicely next year-----if Thad can't win or be near top of the Big 10 with that roster---then I agree---it's time to move on.

This isn't a mid-major program we are talking about. This is The Ohio State University. Wins are wins and loses are loses. I think Matta has done a nice job for his time at Ohio State, but it's time to move on and get some fresh blood. Personally I think his health has done him in, not his X's and O's.

OSU hoops getting put further and further in the back of everyone's minds. Sad to see, having a good Buckeye basketball team is always fun.
No reason this team should stink with all the resources OSU has.

Something tells me Matta gets a chance next year, something tells me he's gone. Next year has to be better then this year tho.

In watching them play, it's a flawed team. However they do not give up which is encouraging I guess. Against a pretty good Minny team they were down 18 and on the road and fought back the entire way to get it to only 3 points with 3 minutes to go, But what happens is all the energy is spent getting back to that point and when it's crunch time---we fall flat. In all of the 6 losses they have been in a winnable position with 3 minutes to go and cannot finish strong enough to win the game. Our guard play at that critical point in those games just isn't good enough or clutch enough to get a win.

Agree. Wish they would shoot better at the FT line too.

These past couple of years and his back problems have really aged Matta. It's hard to believe he's only 49. Loving, the only Senior, has not progressed like I'm sure Matta thought. Lyle is an enigma, too slow for a PG, not a good enough 3-point shooter to play off guard. Having a 6-4 power forward is ridiculous. Ohio State centers are only dominate when they play against players 3 inches shorter. Williams is not streaky enough. There are 4 players on the roster only there because they couldn't recruit 4 star players. I'm afraid Diop's injury is the death knell for this team. IMO Matta gets another year, but if he doesn't finish in the top 3 in the Big Ten next year, Chris Jent will be sitting in the head coaches chair. Only because Ohio State now can't get a high profile coach.

Osu playing worst I've seen lol, Wisconsin shooting the 3 ball at will. Osu offense all it is shoot first deep 3 open lol. Or loving contested. Loving ball handing is so sloppy. This team is a joke forsure.

Think MAtta will get another year....remember Diop out, Funderburke redshirted....hopefully he'll recruit some muscle....if it is this bad next year though, afraid he is gone.....commentators last night I felt sensed Matta is on the hot seat and tried to turn the rising tide against the coach by citing his record etc. etc.......

If they determine his bad back is behind the problems and won't improve---I'd look for him to step aside. He better figure out a way to motivate these guys, because last night they flat out quit on him. That's the first that I've seen it this season. The problem is lack of talent at present---when your leader is a 6'4 inch forward who can't shoot--you know it's an uphill battle. He's responsible for the talent situation at present so the buck stops with him.
This bunch needs to play at a high level of their ability just to compete in the Big 10 let alone win some games.

Next year they're just gonna feed the ball to kaleb Wesson , he's gonna put up nice numbers. He's really good I must say. Seen him in person and he dominates and can shoot.

Solid win and played 2 good halfs. Turnovers by loving biggest problem. Rebounded well , shot the ball well. Lyle played good. Felt like osu basketball again.

Solid win where you had a number of guys playing with some fire for a change. The guard play was good all around. Got some really decent minutes from CJ Jackson. At the point it allows Lyle to do some scoring at the 2. All this being said,,, it was a weaker MSU team than usual--- but that's their problem.

The Buckeyes hustled and kept their feet moving on defense, good ball movement on offense and a low post presence for a change. Still a lousy free throw shooting team. A vital win for the Buckeyes.

Something tells me Matta gets a chance next year, something tells me he's gone. Next year has to be better then this year tho. Should Izzo be fired, should Bo Ryan have been fired? Since Matta has been at Ohio State the Buckeyes have won 5 regular season titles and 4 Big Ten Tournament titles. Izzo is next in that span with 3 and 3. Ryan is next with 2 and 2.

They get to the tourney and have went deep in in both of them. Osu hasn't in awhile. Izzo recruits better than Matta forsure. I like Matta tho. Nice guy. Met him multiple times.

The Virginia game, parts of the UCLA game, and this MSU game prove that there is a team at OSU that can compete and play at a high level. This is the first game where they "finished" down the stretch against a quality opponent. As an OSU fan, I hope they can build off this win and gain the confidence in themselves to bring it the rest of the season.
