What's the latest on this opening? Are they waiting for a specific monthly meeting or planning to have a special meeting to hire?

What's the latest on this opening? Are they waiting for a specific monthly meeting or planning to have a special meeting to hire? According to their website they have a board meeting today and I don't see where they have the job posted so maybe they are announcing the hire today. That's just my guess from what I am seeing. Hopefully somebody with more information can fill us in though.

Did not hear they hired a coach at that meeting so they must be giving it a little more time.

Are Willard supporters excited about a coach who has won 48% of the time as a head coach? I do not know this person, I'm just posting a question.

I would think so. They said in the other thread that Dave Hirschy is probably going to be his assistant. So your head coach has 3 years HC experience and your assistant has 12 years HC experience. Hirschy was just under .500 in his time at Willard. I would say it's a pretty good hire for Willard.... Trust me, it could be worse, lol

I am not questioning any experience of the names above but the previous coach who was below .500 playing a much tougher schedule received very little support and was inside the program for a long time. Only an observation. Regardless of who get the job, the immediate result could be improvement due to the schedule changing from the NOL to the smaller SBC. Best of luck to whoever is hired.

I don't know much about Willard so it's difficult to know how they will feel about it.

There has to be some sympathy for whoever gets the job regardless if we know much about Willard or not.

I'm not sure that the youth leader has the skills to be a coach at that level and I have never heard him say that was what he wanted to do. I know that he helps out a lot not only in basketball but also football with the youth programs and I don't think he has any kids in the youth program. He seems like an okay guy and he is passionate about wanting the best for the kids and the community, at least on the surface that is how it appears. He does a nice job running the youth football flag program and it seems organized and fair, at least when I was coaching he appeared to always want teams fair and well coached. He definitely will speak his mind but also likes to talk issues out. Not sure what the backstory is here between him and the previous coaches but obviously there were issues between the youth program director and the coaching staff. I would hate to see someone like him stop running the programs because I know he spends a lot of time in the gym working with these kids and on the football field. He told me he added a girls basketball program the last few years and they were up over 80 girls, boys are well over 120. If he leaves I hope someone steps in and continues to run these programs.

Solid first post moneyball, but why was A youth leader at a BOE meeting to discuss a varsity coach if there was no agenda on his mind?

I feel bad for whomever gets the job honestly. I have heard about up and coming 7th and 8th grade teams and players who really didn't amount to squat. More times than not. Heck its happening on here right now. People just can't let it play out and see what happens and be a little humble about it all. Parents with unrealistic expectations at younger levels, predicting their kid is going to be 6 8 and be dunking and starting for the varsity team as a freshmen. Its insane the thinking in Willard for a vast majority. Instead of just stepping back and letting coaches do their job, they want to get involved with every single negative thing that happens, and then take it all to facebook where their clueless friends (99% women) chime in. Like they have any clue LOL! Most can't even start their lawnmower up and mow. One thing Bob Haas had was the board had his back, teachers had his back, players had his back, parents for the most part had his back. Until coaches can do what they do without the constant interference from outside sources, nothing will change.

What is the one thing Haas did that (excluding Nossman) that none of Willard's coaches constantly done? Win. Winning makes everything easier

Sports do not build character they reveal it. ~ John Wooden
This can go for fans as well.
