Looks like Ashland and Senior will make the playoffs if they both win out the last 2 weeks. Most basketball teams don't reschedule if the football team loses in week 11.

It's crazy that a township school in Mansfield could have higher enrollment then the big brother city school. Not really that new. When Football went to Divisions in 1980, there were years Madison was I, and Senior High II.

Wrong again Jake. Mansfield Senior was divided into 2 high schools from 1961 through 1989, Mansfield Senior and Mansfield Malabar. Madison might have been close then, but when Senior and Malabar were recombined in 1990, Madison was never bigger than Senior until this year.

Loads of historic info on that link. I see that your claim of " When Football went to Divisions in 1980, there were years Madison was I, and Senior High II." was something that lasted for 9 years from 1980 to 1988. So you are correct, it is not totally uncommon to see Madison as a larger school than Mansfield Sr.

No more than 9 out of the past 100 years was Madison larger.

Actually jake, Mansfield Sr was smaller than Madison before 1980. It's only after 1980 where they in different divisions. From 1960 to 1989 Mansfield had two high schools so it is possible Madison was larger than Mansfield Sr during many or most of that time due to the large district boundary lines.

I just read that Mason Campbell has transferred to Madison and will play basketball for them as well(had only played football while still going to St. Pete's). Huge blow to St. Pete's basketball team.

Since he played b ball at St Petes won't he need to sit out part of the season?

The OHSAA allows a one time transfer, with no penalty, from a private school to the public school district where the student athlete's family lives.

Nope douchebag, I said there was a reason Ontario wants to play them early, not that it was unfair. I also do not see Mansfield as you describe, big and bad. Also, you need to update yourself as Ontario is not a small school, although they like to claim to be. Dingleberry, how do you know it wasn't Senior who wanted to schedule Ontario early? They figured an itsy bitsy school would be an easy warm up to start the season. PLEASE explain, why in the heck do YOU think it's to Ontario's advantage to play Senior early in the season?? You MUST think it's unfair for Senior if you're whining about it. It wasn't me who coined the phrase "itsy bitsy" in regards to Ontario, it was Vogel. Being a middle schooler you wouldn't know who he is. Because I was told who made the call to get the game and what dates could work. Nobody thinks Ontario is a small school other than Ontario fans. It helps them feel okay when they play all the small schools over the years. You may not have said it first but by repeating it constantly you have take on some ownership of the mentality. Would you rather play a team early in the season or after they have 10-15 games of experience.

Would you rather play a team early in the season or after they have 10-15 games of experience. Told by who? Ontario used to be A LOT smaller than Senior, until Senior started losing so many students to Open Enrollment. Now every year families from Senior line up in the middle of the night at the Ontario School Board office on the first day to Open Enroll there kids to Ontario, families at the end of the line are turned away every year. They also are Open Enrolling to Madison in droves. Why do you think Senior has 300 fewer students in the top 3 grades than they used to and Madison is now DI? Allow me to educate you. When the NCC WANTED Ontario to join their league they were a DIII school like ALL other NCC schools except, Buckeye Central. Over the years Ontario grew and the other schools shrank. Not Ontario's fault that so many people wanted to move to Ontario and at the same time were leaving the other NCC school districts. When the disparity became wider there was no other league to join. A 2 Division deal was worked on with the OCC, but it failed. When the NCC folded, at the same time the NOL needed another school. Ontario joined the NOL becoming their NEXT TO SMALLEST school. Now Ontario is a middle sized school in the MOAC. AND when Ontario was in the NCC they were playing non-league games against larger schools from larger leagues. Like Madison, Lex, Ashland, Shelby, Norwalk and Willard when they were larger than Ontario and a basketball power. Gahanna Lincoln, the largest school in Columbus, Cleveland Heights a DI State Champion. After joining the NOL Ontario scheduled even more larger schools like Wooster and Senior. SO your put down of Ontario feeling ok to play smaller schools, at the least comes from you lack of knowledge on the subject. When 2 different schools already have 21 games on their schedule, there are not a lot of satisfactory dates for both schools. Ontario's AD said that he did not insist on playing Senior the first game of the season. It was mutually agreed on as the best possible date for both schools. Have you ever heard this true story about Ontario, Senior and a basketball game? When Collins was coach at Senior and Ontario was on a run of 20 win seasons, a conversation was had between the ADs about scheduling a game. If Senior won, everyone would say no big deal, they SHOULD beat itsy bitsy Ontario from the itsy bitsy NCC(at the time in comparison). If Ontario should happen to upset Senior it would be an embarrassment. Senior decided it was a "no win" situation for them to play Ontario. So, instead a charity preseason game was played for a couple of years. That's silly, it's an impossibility to play every game on your schedule after 10 or 15 games have already been played. AGAIN, why don't you want to play Ontario early in the season? I am sure the coaches and AD at Senior look down on you for whining about having to play Ontario the first week. It makes YOU, not them, look bad.

By someone I know and it's nunya business.
Nobody gives a sheet about Ontariors size in the past but Ontario people. And if you think the reason Mansfield city schools are smaller today is because of Ontario open enrollment then I am shocked you are smart enough to turn on your computer. Ontario may have 350 open enrollment kids. Mansfield city schools are down 1,000 kids from the past. And Madison is normally a DI school. They only dropped a few year recently. Don't be such a pompous azz to think you have to educate others and are the only one who knows local sports. Keep writing that glorious Ontario book on how great they are that nobody cares to read. Ontario has had some good seasons in the past but have not been feared by anyone in any sports for years. Sure they can win games but nobody looks to avoid them. Proof is in all the small schools on their schedules. Keep racking up those career win totals over the small schools and we on the outside will keep on laughing at you. I'm not whining about playing anyone, anytime. All I ever implied was that it benefited a team to play Mansfield early in the season.

In other words you're just making it up.
YOU are the one who cares about Ontario's size in the past. YOU are the one talking about Ontario's size with the put downs about Ontario's wins. All I did was point out your lack of knowledge about the NCC and the teams Ontario plays.
More lack of knowledge by you. Last year Ontario played 14 games against larger schools. Senior only played NINE games against larger schools. Senior is the one racking up wins against smaller schools. EXCEPT, last year DI Senior lost to DIV St.Petes. Last year St.Petes lost 2 regular season games, who beat them?
More lack of knowledge by you. The number of boys in Senior's top 3 grades dropped 17% this year. That is a HUGE difference compared to YOUR "dropped a few".
More lack of knowledge by you. Until this year, over the past 100+ years Mansfield has been larger than Madison EXCEPT for the years when Malabar took close to half Senior's students. Until this year, in the history of Ohio basketball Senior has ALWAYS been in the highest Division. Due to hundreds of students leaving Mansfield for other districts, this is their first year out of the top Division.
Where on this thread have I said anything about how great Ontario sports are? Where on this thread have I said anything about fear of Ontario?? Where on this thread have I said anything about someone avoiding Ontario??? If you don't have proof you will have been proven to as bad as scootyDude.
Why in the heck would it be advantageous to play Senior early in the season???
Due to your lack of knowledge, untruths and students leaving Mansfield for other schools people are laughing at YOU and Mansfield.

joe, let it go. The guy is a keyboard gladiator whose only joy is trolling for his next fight. Many of us know the main reason for Mansfield schools enrollment decline has to do with local industry and not a neighboring school's policy.
On topic I think this season's OCC will be very competitive with the returning players and with some changes that have occurred at some schools.

Joe, scootyDude lies, due to his fear of reading all posts. Thus, scootyDude does not know that Joe first addressed me. All I have done is respond to his posts. Per definition that IS NOT "trolling". When scootyDude goes back in forth with others on here he likens it to sitting at a bar and having a discussion. When others do it he calls it looking for a fight. scootyDude is a two faced deceiver.
scootyDude knows, Ontario lost 1500 manufacturing jobs when General Motor's stamping plant closed. More were lost in Ontario when Mansfield Products plant on 4th St closed. More jobs lost in Ontario when Universal Enterprises on Beer Rd closed. More jobs lost when Otterbacher Mfg. closed. scootyDude knows, that the vast majority of the 350 Open Enrollment students JOE mentions came from Mansfield. As a matter of FACT, scootyDude has multiple times on here called that "running away", from Mansfield Senior. scootyDude is a two faced deceiver.

Looks like Ashland and Mansfield may have to delay their start.Although Wooster has not been mathematically eliminated yet, It's unlikely any other OCC teams will have to wait.

New leadership for the Tygers will hopefully bring success. Coaching is more than 50% of a program's success and Balogh has been the major reason for the Warriors winning ways, as was Collins during his tenure. On the other note, Campbell along with Kyle Jackson definitely makes Madison a contender. Good luck to all area teams on the hardwood this year. They do still only play five at a time don't they? You don't get an extra player for being bigger? If you would have seen the Senior/St Petes game, you would know that the players didn't lose the game.

I think Lexington will be pretty good this year and next. They have a pretty strong junior class. These guys should fill in nicely on the varsity level. As far as the conference early thoughts can make an argument for nearly every one to be at the top of the league. Campbell transferring to Madison makes them a contender. Lex with Stover and the rest of that junior class will make the a tough out. Ashland has loads of height. Wooster and Mansfield are very atheletic. And Mount Vernon is always a very tough out and have at least 2 very good player coming back. West Holmes I don't know too much about. It should be a very interesting year for OCC basketball.

This season should be more competitive from top to bottom than last year.
Wooster 12 - 0 Ashland 8 - 4 Lexington 7 - 5 Mount Vernon 6 - 6 Mansfield Madison 4 - 8 Mansfield Senior 4 - 8 West Holmes 1 - 11
Last years league record minus the Clear Fork games.

I have not read any lies yet except for some of your recollections. I don't care where the factory was. Many of the lost employees of GM, Mansfield Products, Sprint, AK Steel and even Newman Tech were Mansfield city people and their kids attend city schools. That is fact.
With Mason changing teams Madison could go from the 6-7 spot to a top 3 team.

OF COURSE not only Ontario residents lost jobs when their factories closed. There are only 6000 people in Ontario. Mansfield's population is is 46,000 and Richland county's population is 120,000 and people from Ashland, Crawford, Morrow and Knox counties worked in Ontario.
