Pleasant returns 4 out of 5 starters from last year's team that tied Shelby and RV for the MOAC title. I believe RV lost the league's leading scorer to graduation so that will be tough to replace but they are well coached and will contend again.

I think you are missing the main problem people had with Carroll. It was not that he pushed kids or coached them with intensity. I believe most people appreciate that aspect of his style. But it is what dude referenced "...As for the accusations against him, they have been made for the last 14 years..." Those accusations are what people wanted to see handled. Mainly the alleged verbal abuse/name calling. I agree that x and o wise he was pretty darn good most of the time, and clock management and some in game strategy things could be considered his weakness. But I do agree that they could definitely be headed towards the cellar if there are no improvements made. IMO tonight will tell the story for the rest of the season. In part I think you may have been missing the point I was making. These accusation had been going on for 14 seasons and they were minimized because most of them were made by upset parents who had boys that decided to walk away from playing or at least were not playing enough to satisfy them. On top of that the former coach had some very popular/powerful support in the valley. In his final year of coaching, one of his biggest supporters now became one of his upset parents so he had to go. Coaches are going to play the players that give them the best chance of winning or they are not going to be around for long. When I coached I told the players and parents at a preseason meeting every year that the best 11 would be on the field no matter the past season's starters. If your son isn't cutting it on the practice field I accept no criticism for them not getting to play in the game. If parents or players came to me with complaints I would lay it out for them what they/their son needed to do to get more playing time. Knowing the man he is I find it hard to believe Coach Carroll wouldn't do the same if instead of complaining to the school you actually spoke with him.

In fairness CF tried hiring someone else first, but the financial numbers did not work out for that individual. Which led to Brokaw being offered. I would say most people I have talked to are happy Carroll is gone based on the accusations against him. Some feel Brokaw was not the right choice from the outset, and definitely that way now if they teetered. Regardless, several injuries to key personnel have started to damper the outlook of the season. Would also, argue that the talent pool is a bit shallow currently. In HS football it comes down to the X and O's, and the Jimmy and Joes play a big part of that. In all fairness, the people who run things in Clear Fork new this going into firing their past coach. It was said retired from teaching and taken a small position inside the district to allow him access to players during the day and keep coaching without drawing a large salary or an administrative position. As for the accusations against him, they have been made for the last 14 years and he was still there. When they did decide to fire him they knew, or at least they should have known, they were not going to get a top shelf young coach to come in for $18K a school year. The fact that multiple applicants asked for a much larger position or to be allowed to keep their current teaching position in another district is only fair to their families. The right choice for the position they have is exactly what they got. It is very true the Jimmys and Joes make the difference, but if you spoke with anyone in the valley last year they talked about the level of football talent being very strong for the next few years to come. Trying to be fair. I think the folks at CF should be careful what they wish for. I look for them to be irrelevent in the MOAC title conversation for years to come now. Stop crying about the mean old coach who pushed your kids hard and made them good players. You go ahead with your new coach that makes everybody feel better about themself and get everyone a participation trophy. I would take Dave Carroll as my school's head coach any day of the week. Life is hard. Nobody is going to hand you anything that you don't work for and having a coach that gives you that push is invaluable to teaching football and life lessons.

Pleasant has hired former Harding assistant coach CJ Westler to lead the program. I really hope he can get a staff assembled and the team together in this short time period. Fortunately, last year's team was all Juniors and Sophomores so he does have a lot of returning talent.

AD was not involved. Pleasant Superintendent and the Dean of Curriculum wanted Coach Kline to fire an assistant coach (not a teacher) for posting a couple of tame curse words on a social media page used to communicate to the team. Nothing the kids don't hear everyday. Kline refused. They also asked him to refrain from going out to dinner with players parents (he just moved here from 2 hours away, those are about the only people he knows). He said he would do that and yet 2 months later they fired him (and the other coach) anyway. Pleasant has some big problems at the top and they are going to lose some of there best up and coming players because of it.

Pleasant is doing something different this year to kick off the season. On Sunday evening they are having summer competition finals, a parents meeting, then a community football camp where members of the community can learn football terminology, do drills and practice at a slow pace, then a pizza party, player introductions and finally a midnight practice until 2 am. I have no idea if this team will be any good or not but this a pretty cool evening for parents and fans to come out to experience what it's like.

Pleasant is now looking for a new A.D. as Eric Holman is heading to Wynford. I don't know exactly what is going on at Pleasant but there are some serious problems that need dealt with as there has been a mass exodus of teachers from the high school.

My understanding is the N10 is voting on June 13 as to whether or not to add Pleasant and Willard to the conference. I also hear Pleasant had decided on a coach who was an assistant at Massillon and former head coach elsewhere but when he did his due diligence he decided to turn it down so they had to start over. One thing that will not help them this year is their non-conference games. For a school that is struggling to compete with the top teams in the MOAC, they did not give them any cupcake games. North Union, Wynford and D3 Whitehall (not always good but usually very athletic, which is what has plagued Pleasant the past few years) plus the meat grinder MOAC schedule may see Pleasant with their worst record in decades if they don't get the right coach in quickly.

Please do not misunderstand my post as blaming Shelby for running up the score. This is varsity basketball not a 5th grade game. If you put in your reserves and they are still running away with it (apart from pressing a team), I say fair enough. As a Pleasant grad and supporter I have been on the winning side of a lot of these games in the past, as Pirate80 alluded to above. No, my problem is with the Pleasant players and coaches. Maybe it is because they had a bunch of freshmen playing, I don't know but you would have had to make a lot of free throws in the 4Q when I played. Our coaches would have gotten the second string in the game and told them to get in their face and do not allow them to shoot. Getting outhustled and giving up easy shots would have been grounds for instant removal from the game by the coaches back then.

SMH - 113-65 - I would say they should have been tackling players and making them pay every time they shot the ball but I watched Pleasant's football team this fall and it is obvious to me that they don't know how to do that either. It's one thing to not have the talent to stay with another team but it is unacceptable to not have the pride or heart to stop them. If every starter didn't foul out, they should be stuck on the bench.

Pleasant is working with someone to live stream the home games (they are even going to have the camera on a wire running down the field like they do for "big time" football, I hear). There will be a fee to watch it though. Are any other schools going to be live streaming their home games for those who can't get a ticket? If so, can you pass along the link for the live stream site? Pleasant's will be at ihunter-productions1.webnode.com/live/
