Almost game time... so a few thoughts. I have only seen Huron play once this year and that was Thursday night. Lex and Huron played one other time. That was the 1973 District Final in which Huron won 49-48. They are well coached and disciplined team. Here is my take on the key points of the game... Inside game and rebounding advantage Lex. Perimeter game and guard play advantage Huron. Coaching slightly to Lex. Consistency has to go to Huron. Strength of schedule Lex. What's that all mean. Probably nothing. But I will be a Homer and take the Minutemen in a close one. Good luck to both teams and Go Big Lex!!! Inside game - Huron (HOLER) Perimeter game - Huron Coaching - Toss up Schedule - Toss up Huron by 20

I for one am surprised that WR beat Huron. Huron seems to be a much better team. still downplaying those RoughRiders, eh? I think WR wins the District. They may not have a Star player like Valentine or Studor, but they have 8 guys that just get after it. I underestimated their physicality, their determination, how they work together as a team. Their interior passing is outstanding. They wear you down. They maintain the same intensity for 4 quarters....its hard to match. Close game at half, but WR wins by 10.

I was told this morning that Sandusky's coach did not vote at all for Bryce Burns, who was Columbian's second-leading scorer... That says alot about Sandusky's coach.

Just curious, what would the Vegas odds be for no Sheldon coach in the District finals?

Things that matter when evaluating players for All-Conference, in no particular order but kinda.....
Player stats (not just points, ALL STATS, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, percentages, etc)
Team Record / Conference Record
Player Attitude
Player Class (Fresh, Soph, Junior, Senior)
Coaches input during award meeting
Looking at the awards across all 3 divisions, I think they got it pretty close to being right. I've seen alot of these kids play over the past 4 years, high school and AAU. Sure, everybody has bias' and you can always make an argument for another kid....(ie. Max Dawson - Willard). It's a tuff assignment, picking all conference.

No kidding. Willard's worst loss is probably to 11-11 Oak Harbor. Van Buren's best wins are against (no joke) 8-14 D4 McComb and 6-16 D4 Vanlue, which plays on a stage. I can't even believe we are having this conversation. Just bigox showing his IQ again.

Calvert beat ‘Em on the road too. On a neutral floor I’d say we have a chance to compete quite well imo. Against a top 5 ranked team that’s what you hope to do — compete and maybe get an upset . IMO, Willard has "upset" one team all year.....Columbian. They also have 2 bad losses they should have won.....PC at home and OH away. IMO Norwalk and Bellevue were also games that the Flashes should have won, but not necessarily "bad" losses. Preseason, I thought Willard would finish 16-6. Losses to Columbian, Sandusky, Huron (1), Margaretta (1). I didn't think Margaretta and Huron would beat us at home.

After watching WR play last night online , I think Willard has a chance at the upset. First I had seen WR play . keep in mind, Willard isn't Calvert "Keep in mind...." not even sure what you're insuating. It's all about matchups. Calvert is solid. Spaun is one of my favorite players....ever. Beeker is as hard-nose as they come. Having said that, Willard would match up with them quite well. I agree with Buckeyekid, I like our chances.

Final: Huron 61 Willard 55. 13-11 Flashes after 1, 28-22 Tigers at Half, 42-33 Huron after 3. Willard fans wanted fouls called on everything, Refs were letting them play. I thought the officials called a good game, Warned several players on both sides for their shenanigans, Teed up Willard after their 2nd delay of game with the ball after their basket, And out of time outs. It was a good game, Congratulations to Huron and Margaretta for sharing the SBC. JV Final: Huron 64 Willard 33. JV Tigers finish 18-2. Freshman Final: Willard 52 Huron 37. You're right, the refs let them play. I thought the refs were way below average and let Holer get away with too much. However, the better team won and Huron deserved it. Holer is a load and we had no answer for him. It was a good game for both teams going into the tourney.

Not talking to you, just quoting to continue the discussion. What I find humorous is when people get butt hurt when kids attend more than 1 High School. My Dad literally attended 3 different High Schools back in the 1960's. He didn't play basketball but for the sake of this discussion let's say he did and we will make up some point totals. School 1 as a freshman and sophomore we will say he scored 999 points School 2 as a junior we will say he scored 999 points School 3 as a senior we will say he scored 999 points Career Total of 2,997 points And zero schools should list him as a 1,000 point career scorer? He should be left out of any career record books because his parents had the audacity to move. The nerve. Career records are reserved for kids whose parents don't move. So the common fan must track the life story and know the stats of every single player to have ever played the game of basketball to know their ACUTAL career totals? A conversation in 2045 by two 15 year olds that attend Upper Sandusky High School Billy: I know Jake Diebler led Upper Sandusky to a State Title in 2005, how many career points did he have? Johnny: Upper Sandusky says he had 480 career points Billy: So he wasn't really that good, 480 career points is average Johnny: Yeah, grandpa saying he was really good is just bloviating Billy: Yeah, your grandpa is full of it Johnny: I agree, I'm not going to believe anything my grandpa says again Billy: Next thing he'll say is Jake scored almost 2000 career points when it's really only 480 Johnny: Yeah, it looks like my grandpa is a "I walked to school uphill both ways" kind of grandpa. I have zero respect for my grandpa now. Expecting Billy and Johnny in 2045 (who were born in 2030) to know the life story of every player that came before they were even born is insanity. I sure hope Upper Sandusky lists career points for Jake Diebler as 1,862 and not 480. Little Billy would need to be corrected that Jon Diebler "led Upper Sandusky to the State Title in 2005" with 714 season points. I agree that career totals matter, but if you take Heath out you need to look at all. And then it becomes amazing to me that a program of Willard's history only would have 10 players scoring 1,000 points. Please list the schools other than Willard that have more than 5 career 1000 point scorers.....Im curious.

My mistake, I thought Joel's include points from Clearfork that if subtracted would keep him below the 1000. He scored 561 and 538 his junior and senior years. I fixed the list, thx.

If you want a list that includes only points scored in a Willard uniform, it would include these names..... 1973 Mike Buurma 1980 John Willoughby 1984 Rex Adams 1986 Noland Robinson 1988 Joel Guth 2003 Nick Dials 2006 Jimmy Langhurst 2016 Conner Robninson 2022 Trey Paxton You forgot Joel Guth My mistake, I thought Joel's include points from Clearfork that if subtracted would keep him below the 1000.

Vogel said "career." How many did Nolan Robinson have at Norwalk? My guess, about 10 per game his freshman year.......so about 200......thats probably a little high.

if they lost to Willard, there is probably a good chance they'd lose at margaretta and western reserve would be a solid opponent as well.. if you talk to the Huron coach I bet he will tell you they should have never lost those games. I'm confused, Huron coach or Shelby coach? Shelby should have lost to Willard....atleast on that night, Margaretta would beat Shelby 7 outta 10. Its this simple..... SBC Bay is much better than MOAC from top to bottom....not even close.

Huron wins the District, Huron more athletic than Shelby, better shooters, more depth, better coached, won't be surprised if Shelby doesn't make the final, but I love Andre Hill's game.

Who gets the 3 seed? Willard or Elmwood? Elmwood should win both of their games next week that would put them at 11-7. Willard has two road games next against OH and Lucas. If they go 1-1 that would put them at 11-8. I know Willard could win both next week and be 12-7 but you never know who will have others backs when it comes to voting. 3 or 4 seed doesn't matter much to me, gonna have to beat both CC and WR to win the District. I think the Flashes are capable of beating both, and I think the Flashes are capable of losing to both by 20. If Willard plays 2 halves of basketball they are tuff. Once again, I think we match up with CC better than WR.

Flashes go 15-7 Then we get matched up eventually with either CC or WR in the Disrict Semis and it's game on. My thoughts exactly.

Willard was very cold early on. Over half of the first quarter they were stuck on 0. I wasn’t overly impressed with huron. A group of solid athletes but they looked small on tv. Defensively Willard gave up too many layups and didn’t get enough loose balls and rebounds. I agree buckeye, with only two seniors, 3 of the 5 players on the floor are going to be underclassmen. I think they only play one jr too. So basically they are-7 ish deep with 4 sophomores. Despite Willard being so young they can still hang with one of the best teams in the area. far as your comment on Huron not being impressive. In the 5 bay division games played 5-0 shooting 62% on two point shots as a team, 35% on 3 point shots as a team 76% from the foul line as a team. Averaging 68.8 scoring a game. Dylan Hohler averaging 17.8 , Tait Fischer 13.6, Joey Schade 10.6 .. They beat Edison by 25, Margaretta by 11, Port Clinton by 28, Oak Harbor by 30, and Willard by 18... only loss was that 1 pointer to Western Reserve. Size wise , not overly tall Dylan Hohler and Joey Shade are both 6'4 drops down to 6'1 after that..amongst those who play.. they will go 3 off the bench normally.. but Edison , PC , and OH the starters didn't play much if any in the 4th qtr.. For a team picked i believe 3rd in the Bay.. not bad... so far.. As a Willard fan, I was very impressed with Huron. I think they are the best team we've played this year. They have alot of shooters. Holler is a beast. They play great team defense. They are very well coached. Sure, we didn't bring our "A" game, but Huron had alot to do with that. They are my pick to win the league as well as the their District.

For first game, Flashes look promising. Sloppy at times (only a few), and really solid at times, defensive rebounding looked suspect at times, but overall wasn't terrible, US focused on not letting Paxton get clean looks, also played him very physical, Dawson played like he's capable and we'll need more of the same as the year progresses, all the Sophomores played really well and will only get better as they get more Varsity experience, overall....they played better than I expected but US played alot better than I expected.....especially shooting from the perimeter. They're not really good. AT ALL two players. is all they got I agree, they did not look good at all tonite. Huron is a far better team. We have 2 options on offense, thats it. That has to change. The offense we are running has no chance against good teams with multiple athletes that play aggressive defense.

I think it's just a matter of time before before they shut it all down, again. I'd be surprised if we're allowed to finish the season. It doesn't appear to be what some think it is. I have seen a lot of testing going on that is negative. What we are seeing go thru is just another episode of the common cold or flu bug. I dont say this often, but Dude is spot on.

Perkins at Sandusky cancelled due to illness for Perkins. It’s going rampant throughout the pirate teams right now. Oh, trust me, it more than just Perkins. Many many schools are experiencing the same. Alot of schools are playing thru the illness with sick kids and short rosters.
