It is not recruiting if you see a very successful program with good facilities and good coaches and kids are having success, that is called making the most of an opportunity. Open enrollment shifted over $360 million dollars across Ohio last year for reasons of better schools, facilities, education, the arts and athletics. If you see a school having kids open enroll there in mass numbers, if I were a school losing these kids I would find out what the school that is getting them is doing, and copy it.

How many families in Willard have both parents making $40,000? Tit for tat. Regardless if they make $40,000 or $20,000 the example was stating what could happen to your yearly income based on this tax. I used $40,000 as my example and based on city calculations the tax will generate $1.9MM annually. Regardless, people will bring home less in their paycheck every week and this community has more important needs. To tax and burden taxpayers with this is wrong, IMO.

This should be an interesting meeting tomorrow night. I hope people show up because if you don't and it gets voted in it is an average of $1000 more in taxes a year for a household with two working parents making $40,000 each. That is a $1.04 per household per hour pay cut.

Moneyball you may wanna go see Coach Haas as he just wrote a Letter to the editor in support of the PAC being built---speak loud because he wears hearing aids LOL. He is also retired and this will have zero effect on his retirement income. Change the levy to working and retirement income that gets taxed and watch Mr. Haas change his tone. My hope, people get educated about this levy and make the right decision for themselves and their family. The loudest voice is the voice of a casted vote.

Moneyball you may wanna go see Coach Haas as he just wrote a Letter to the editor in support of the PAC being built---speak loud because he wears hearing aids LOL. BK, I know Mr. Haas and have the utmost respect for him. However, he can support it and encourage the community to support it, that is his prerogative. What I want to know, is this levy SOLELY for the purpose of the PAC or is it a front for an operating levy? That is a fair question because it is being messaged as a PAC ONLY levy. You and I are both smarter than that. What is the additional tax dollars collected going to be used for and how much does this new PAC cost. I read that Beebe was going to raise $1MM dollars for the project, that would cover a large chunk of the construction alone. Not sure if that is going to happen now due to levy being put to vote. Transparency and controlled spending, that is all the taxpayers in this community want.

Willard is putting this on the May ballot and really not talking about it in hopes it can be quietly voted in, plus the City of Willard will be putting to vote to ask Willard residents for more money in November for the city. Too bad people in this community can't see through the smoke and mirrors. Educating the public on what is really going on is called integrity, not using a PAC to mask the truth. You are 100% accurate, they are keeping quiet in hopes that people don't realize this is an operating levy and they are using the PAC as a front. The school already has .75% so add another 1.25% and we are up to 2.00% tax levy for the school. Try and find another school in the area that is even close to this. 2% of $40,000 is $800 a year, $60,000 is $1200, $80,000 is $1600 and this is forever or at least until you retire, PER YEAR. Sneaky, they are. Trying to push this through as something it isn't. The reason they dropped the field house idea was they couldn't use it as a front for an operating levy so they found out someone wanted a new PAC and they thought, we have a shot at getting this operating levy passed and they don't have to call it an operating levy. I encourage everyone to go to the PAC Public Forum meeting on April 25th at 7:00PM in the Elementary Cafeteria. This is your chance to gather information to make the decision that fits your household income.

I’m creating this thread so the public can be informed on the project. I know there is a meeting about the PAC before the election and the public is welcome to attend. Here are some of the facts as I know them and have a few questions with hopes that some members of this message board may know the answers.
1) How much is this new PAC going to cost to build? 2) What is the operating cost annually? 3) What is the term limit for this levy? 4) What happens to the funds generated from this levy after the PAC is built, if the levy passes? 5) Is this actually an operating levy and the PAC is being used to get it passed?

moneyball, the training is school wide in our school building for the grades K-5 initially I believe. The LIM people and resources come to our school building for the traning. You'd Have to ask Mandy to be sure though. Unless I'm off my mark completely,,,this is exactly what we need here to help us build kids from the bottom up so to speak. I'm going to share a figure that got my attention and made me get behind so strongly,,,,in a 3 year period of implementing the LIM program in the elementary school in Bucyrus the # of discipline cases went from 1400 per year down to 400,,,,and the State report card performance went from failing up to a C level and climbing still. Everything I’ve read about it sounds positive and of course it is derived from the 7 Habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey (i’ve had the training and if applied properly, it works). I’m all for better education and we both know our school is in the ditch when it comes to our overall rating right now. This could be a good start for k-5, we need something for 6-12 as well. I’ve saw some very concerning methods of teaching and asked for an explanation and was shocked when i got it. here is an example, kids struggling with quizzes and test and i’ve asked how they can struggle when their class participation and homework is all 100%. the answer was if you do your homework you get 100%, it is not checked and if you pay attention in class you get 100% participating grade. i have too many students to grade homework. that teaching method needs to go. www.cultofpedagogy.com/problems-with-leader-in-me/

So I've read on this thread that the field house would cost $800k(seems light but OK I'll bite) and that it could CLEAR in profits $150-200K per year. (I don't know about this one)Why wouldn't any business owner or individual build this thing without the school involved at all. This is 4-5 year return on your investment. Pretty darn good if these numbers are right. Once again I don't see it.I'm not at all against the FH but I'm not buying it's a cash cow.. Another thing I've been involved in AAU bball for 8-10 years back in the day and I don't see one site being able host 15 events a year. Part of the appeal of AAU ball is the ability to travel to different venues. I didn’t say all AAU basketball tournaments, there are other athletic programs that bring in tons of revenue. And you are correct, one heck of a great investment and that is why the school board stated they needed to move on this quickly. Cloverleaf and Edison field houses were around $800k or less.

One step and one brick at a time, good things are happening and being built and started. A program called "Leader in Me" just got funded and now it's ready to get started in the lower grades. Nothing to do with sports and all about changing the mindset and the culture and the attitude and the responsibility of everyone and everything school oriented. Bucyrus and also Wynford I believe have it and they raved about it. The elementary administrators are super excited to have the chance to use the program I know that. Very aware of it and it was $60,000 that is being funded. I’m having a hard time understanding what they would teach outside what is already taught now? So, we are hiring someone for this position or will we be sending teachers to florida to get trained for this special class. Help me understand this buckeyekid, i’m really trying.

Willard is too small for this massive field house, sorry this is just a pipe "build it and they will come" dream. You will have to pay people to run these tournaments, utilities etc. I do not see this being a money maker at all. Just like the cafetorium was all willard needed and now another taxing levy. I don’t believe it was a pipe dream. The money was there and as i stated earlier, players and coaches would volunteer their time and this would allow the boosters to have a very positive financial impact and in return the boosters supports these teams. You keep going back to tax money but once again it was not being promoted as a project that would use taxpayer’s money. And for being too small, look at Cloverleaf and Edison, much smaller than Willard and they have found a way to support it and it is self sustaining.

Wow, Willard is just bleeding out money. Who pays for the upkeep? Oh wait, here comes another levy to fund the upkeep of the field house. Business 101: FH is built with no tax dollars and the school can run massive tournaments, not just AAU BB tournaments they can run volleyball, wrestling and even indoor track. The school gets the gate while the boosters gets the concession money. All teams are given one weekend to work and they are supported by the boosters. Say you have 15 of these a year and the gate is $10k and concession is $5k, this gives the school $150,000 and the boosters $75,000. The tournament they have every year here (April Fools AAU Tournament) results in this kind of return for the school and boosters.

Why are we building a field house when the amount of kids playing sports has decreased year after year? I would say let those who want this field house do either donate or fund raise for it to be built. I do not think this PAC levy passes this May and I do not think it will even be close. TG, the difference is the Field House was being built with all donations and a portion of the money from the school that had to be used for capital projects, NO TAXES. The field house argument would also generate $150-200K a year in profit if done correctly. The boosters committed $200k to the project and private donors another $200k and the school was to pony up $400k.

I was approached by a person handing out flyers yesterday about supporting the Earned Income Tax to help fund the new PAC. I have a few questions and hopefully someone on here will know the answers because the person handing them out did not have the answers. 1) How much will this new PAC cost? 2) How long will this tax be in effect? 3) What's the operating cost of the New PAC? 4) If this tax is generating $1.9MM per year what will happen to those tax dollars after the PAC is paid for? 5) Who made a decision to scrap the Field House idea and replace it with a New PAC when we already have a PAC but we don't have a Field house and a Field house is 1/2 the cost of a New PAC? 6) Are they using any of the left over money they got from being under budget when building the school to go towards the New PAC? 7) Are they planning on building a Field House still because the Board stated they were moving forward because there were people in the community willing to donate a good portion of the cost?

I would like to know where the money is coming from for the bus garage.Coming from someone in the know, they had it and put it in the new sports complex. Just asking The school came in under budget and completed on or before schedule so Willard received a portion of that money to use on capital projects. I've heard anywhere from 1.6 to 2.3MM. So, that is where the money to build the bus garage is coming from. They used a portion of that for the football field and track as well. I'm not sure if they also used a portion of it to purchase the property on Main Street and also for the School Board New Office project, I'm sure it is though.

They are bidding it out now and I believe the paper stated they wanted to have a portion of it completed by the fall. I also saw where they are moving forward with a renovation of the school board offices. I’m curious about that topic because they just renovated the one they are in when they first moved in years ago. Is the plan to build a new school board office or perhaps use the weight room facility? Is it against the rules for the achool board to be housed under the actual school roof? If not, I would think you could save $500,000 on renovations and utility + insurance premiums that first year if they could be housed inside the new school, i’m sure there is enough room there. $ball, if you have the room at the school, I don't think there is a rule or law that says you can't have it under the same roof. Norwalk, when they started shuffling classes around to different buildings here, the school board moved into the former Benedict Elem. building along with some special classes. Willard could have done the same thing instead of tearing down all those elementary building. That's my point, instead of using funds for a new school board building why not use those funds on something else more worthwhile? I can't believe that the new school doesn't have the space to house 5 more individuals. To me, spending additional money on something like this is not a very economical way of doing business. Spending like this and then going to the public for additional tax money to support a PAC doesn't add up. There are needs and wants and I think a new school board office is a want, not a need.

I can't get behind another levy for a PAC, especially when Willard had a very nice one and decided to tear it down, nor could I get behind another levy for a field house. Willard is tapped out when it comes to asking its citizens for more money. I just looked at my property tax bill that I paid last month and 2/3 of it was for Willard City Schools. A PAC or a Field House isn't fixing grades within the school system and I would rather see a push for a large after school program to help kids who are struggling with their grades, not a sport. The extra money people are talking about had to be spent in a certain way according to state guidelines because it isn't Willards money or our tax payers money, it was the states money. I have a hard time believing it won't pass. Many of the voters in this community are lured in by promises of rainbows and sunshine. The field house discussion was part of the "state's money" but they sat on it until they had it all spent. I don't think buying Buerle's house was a good investment. I thought they should have kept the BOE office where it was and not looked at spending another $250,000+ on something new. I'm sure the Buerle house cost them a pretty penny.

I would hope all ADs are up to speed on what is going on with their teams and their placement by the OHSAA. I agree. It should be a requirement, not a hope. If I had a nickel for every time someone told me they are new and they didn't realize this or that, I would be rich. If they are new then their pay should reflect a progression of competence until they are not considered new. SMDH

Me personally, it was a tough season for wins but the program is moving in the right direction. We saw a lot more freshman playing basketball this year and there is some talent there. JV, some kids really stepped up and they played hard, had a much better season than anyone would have guessed, but Brian did well. Varsity, tough break with Broc and i’m sure if he had it all to do over again things may be different. I think the varsity wins reflect their age and the Broc ordeal. They are very young and next year you’ll see the maturity starting to bubble up. 8th grade has some players and they will help the freshman and jv teams. As i have stated many times the next 2-3 years this program will be exciting to watch. Next year will be fun to watch but 2-3 years the gym will be packed again. BTW, your post doesn’t have to be riddled with sarcasm, just open your mouth and ask the question instead of insinuating i’m hiding. That's a great thought but gyms don't get packed anymore these days. You may see some more people, but not packed. Unfortunately those days are done. I’ll keep this response in my archives 😳

Just read this one and it is worth the read. "Here is what the Indiana Sheriff's Association calls the safest schools in the country. They are located in Shelbyville, Indiana southwest of Indianapolis on I 74. . Not one teacher carries or has any access to a gun or other weapon. Its a number of things the school did a couple years ago specifically after Sandy Hook. That includes every teacher has a panic button on their person that when activated immediately sends out an alarm throughout the school campus for a total lock-down. Said one teacher can shut down the entire school system. With the alarm sounded all doors to the classrooms are secured and every door is bullet proof. Each room has a safe protected area should a shooter be outside and shooting inside thru the windows. The Sheriff has full access / control to hundreds of cameras located thought out the building to view the situation. Every classroom has been outfitted with a radio that has direct access to the Sheriff's office. All hallways are equipped with smoke generators that the main office or Sheriff office can activate making it nearly impossible for anyone to see to move in the hallway. They said other measures exist as well but none of those have any individual other than the police with a weapon. Article quoted the Sheriff saying the last thing I want is 20% etc of the staff running around with guns all chasing a shooter. Said that is best left to trained and fully equipped law enforcement. As said this is considered the safest school system in the country. Cost bit over $400,000 and slightly over $100,000 was provided by a Federal grant.

I like the idea that the Eric county Sheriff's office and Edison Schools have done, opened a substation at the school. These means a larger presence of police on site more often. I think ideas like this along with qualified teachers carrying (cc) is a good start to deter. Digging deeper, I think those kids in need of additional help need to be identified and helped. Mental health is an issue that pushes people to some of the most horrific crimes imaginable and many times it can be prevented with the right staff that is trained in identifying these individuals and working with them, the school and the parents to get them back on track.Students need to be very involved in the identifying process. The trained professionals are totally reliant on student cooperation and assistance in identifying situations that may pose a potential threat to school safety and well being. I think the spector of uniformed security can become a bit overwhelming at some point. Extreme police presence is not what should be conveyed in an environment that should be geared to an educational atmosphere. That's one of the benefits of anonymous faculty staff with CC. Doesn't matter to me what they look like or that their presence is overwhelming. Try telling a parent that has to bury their child we did nothing, all schools are at risk. Not trying to argue but something is better than nothing and Erie County is on to something here. Combination, get staffed trained to identify mental health issues and get real help for these kids, police substation and cc staff. There are staff members that add to the pressure kids go through on a daily basis and they need weeded out too, every school has one or two.

In fairness to Kingmartinez, he corrected his post to state that he doesn't think 'staff carrying guns' will happen around here. Not the actual acts of violence. That sounds very reasonable. I think most of us would be a bit surprised if the truth were revealed as to the extent of CC teachers in our particular area or school district. I know I was quite surprised to learn the number of districts that have taken that big step to harden their defenses, statewide. I like the idea that the Eric county Sheriff's office and Edison Schools have done, opened a substation at the school. These means a larger presence of police on site more often. I had no idea of the scope of schools already enlisting their teachers as CC in Ohio. 63 of 88 counties having schools with armed teachers is pretty significant. Can you imagine what that number will be in the not to distant future? After all the paranoia has been exhausted, I think most schools will be arming their teachers.....it work's. You can't keep your head buried in the sand and think "It won't happen here". The majority of these counties have the leadership needed to implement practices and policies that would help deter and prevent this from happening now, and not reacting after a shooting occurs.

Scrolling thru the site you provided it shows the average teacher wage for the schools to be.............................. Clyde $52,400 Ontario $62,000 Vermilion $ 65,800 Willard $67,000 Norwalk $63,900 Port Clinton $62,000 Shelby $63,900 Perkins $70,000 Sandusky $66,100 This is listed as the average teacher salary for the district on the website above Average for the state of Ohio is $58k. I mean if you think that’s a lot of money that’s fine. To me that’s not enough for me to do even more work and add an extreme responsibility. You think the opposite than that’s fine. I still haven’t had anyone come up with where the additional funding will come from. It sure isn’t coming from the National govt How about a portion of the tax levy that they are going to pass that has an undetermined amount of time on the books. what was it, $1.9 milllion per year.

Did you about spit your coffee out because you think it is untrue or shocked that they are actually making this kind of salary? yes it is and apparently you have no idea how to use google www.google.com/amp/s/articles.niche.com/teacher-salaries-in-america/amp/I’m very familiar with the website and i happen to use google once in a while. the site is not always up to date and it does not show you who is making what like the requested report shows.
