This will be the 74th meeting between these two schools, with it being the first time that it is not an NOL game. Bellevue leads the all time series 37-34-2, and Shelby won last year's game 49-34.

Shelby vs Bellevue appears to be over (at least in the short-term) after the 2018 season. Week three was the only option and Shelby prefers Willard in that slot, if Willard agrees but Bellevue already has Madison there so either way it's not going to work out. Any chance Shelby would drop either Madison or Lex to make room for Bellevue?

Forgive me for stating this, but if Bellevue does not win this game, I'm going to go ahead, and congratulate Shelby for their 2017 10-0 season.

Armstrong is back this week along with two others who should play a lot as well. You have to believe he is going to want to make a statement in his first game back. I have a hard time seeing Shelby lose this one unless they find a way to beat themselves.

Probably a must win for Bellevue's playoff hopes.

I watched Bellevue play CCC and I have seen all of Shelby's games this year. With the starters out, I think Bellevue could put up a pretty good fight. With Armstrong back and some more depth on the defense with the other two starters returning, I don't see Shelby losing in most instances.

The difference in this game will be the continued absence of Shorty Brooks who is out for one more game. These games are always battles from two longtime foes -- really think Bellevue pulls the upset, especially if it is a wet field -- they will be able to run the ball and not convinced the freshman running back can do it for Shelby. Hope I'm wrong. REmember last year, it was the Brooks = Armstrong COMBINATION that was the difference -- not just Armstrong alone.

Yeah, it was definitely the Brooks/Armstrong combo last year. Bellevue also had Foos. Their present QB didn't look particularly outstanding when I saw him. They don't have receivers like Shelby does either. Even if it is a wet field (forecast looks good as of now), I don't think Bellevue's RB is going to pose significant problems for Shelby. He's good, but the matchups still favor Shelby. It can be argued about Shelby's strength of schedule versus Bellevue's, but Shelby's defense has been solid regardless.

Shelby will finally feel the effects of the drug use by their stud players in this one. Look for Bellevue line em up and play smashmouth football. I got Bellevue by a touchdown.

What game did you watch? And did you happen to read last weeks News Journal? Will said,"But I was not happy with our run game. We were not able to control a six man box, fumbled the ball and had two straight forth and shorts we got stuffed. "Its sloppy. "Its not good enough to beat Bellevue next week. So I told the kids, I want them to enjoy this because they worked too hard not to enjoy the wins. But we need a little better execution because I don't think tonight was good enough to win next week." Kinda odd statements since they won the game 56 to 6 don't ya think?

I should have clarified a bit. I said "matchups," which in my mind meant I had both Armstrong's running game and the overall team matchup on both sides of the ball when it came to my comments. I don't think Shelby's freshman versus Bellevue's senior runningback is in Shelby's favor. However, Shelby's running game will improve with Armstrong. I agree with Will that Shelby did not do their best against Willard. Shelby definitely played better against Lex. I don't think Will's comments at this point were indicative of a team decline going forward. It was a bad game that they won 56-6. I trust the coaching staff that they can right the ship. Me expecting the Whippets to win does not mean I think they cannot lose, but I am in my boundaries in being confident about my stance.

Maybe he is referring to Foos ability to run/pass vs the current Bellevue QB who doesn't look as mobile?? As for Shelby coaches comments, I would fully expect most coaches to find something to pick at...no reason to say how good your team was against a team that isn't very good.

If Shelby's line blocks like they did against Madison and Lex I could run for over 100. If they block like they did against Willard it'll be close. I'm still not sure Bellevue can win. Shelby has two receivers that are nearly indefensible and two others that have scored. Even if the line doesn't block well, Armstrong doesn't need a big hole. Plus he can read the option better which will get him and the freshman plenty of runnning room.

If Bellevue's defense plays they way they did against West Holmes on 3rd and 4th down, Shelby will easily rack up 50+ points in this game

This will be a interesting game. I know our teams we've played but don't see much about or know much about the teams Shelby has played! Good luck to the Redmen, bring your "A" game and I sure don't see a 50+ points for Shelby just because one kid is back. I hope!?!? LOL Hope it's a fun game to watch.

Look at what Foos brought to the table running the football last year...if he were out for 3 games, I would suspect when he returned Bellevue's offensive output would be much greater than it was without him. Just my opinion after watching the Bellevue offense the past few seasons. He was a difference maker with the football in his hands...as is Armstrong...I don't see 50+ points either

Well I hear Shelby will be independent next year for football!
The SBC schools will play them but not as league games.
They are being butt heads on this, they are mad because Shelby is leaving.
All you are doing is penalizing the kids from getting league recognition !
But you cannot put all the blame on SBC, Shelby joined a league they knew they weren't going to stay in!
They kept trying to save the NOL, by doing nothing years ago!
Come on people let them play these as league games next year!

Never thought I would see a running clock game against Bellevue. The way it's going, we'll see one in the second half.
