My heart wants to go with Galion in this one but my head says Harding. I have tons of respect for Harding. The fact is Harding played Pleasant way closer than Galion did. I know there's multiple factors to consider there though. I will say this. If Galion does win, there is at least 2 more wins on the schedule

Even if we lose there still might be.

Even if we lose there still might be. I'll just go out on a limb and say that this game is "pivotal". After the Pleasant beat-down (oxymoron) and the squeaker against RV, the Tigers have a chance to improve their lot (w/ respect to the "playoffs"); or (if they lose), they'll have to dig themselves back out of the hole that they just made a bit deeper.

I can't see us beating CF or BV regardless of the outcome tonight. But 5-5 or even, dare I say, 6-4 is better than many of us had originally anticipated this season turning out. So far as the playoffs go, a roadtrip to Shelby is not a trip I would wish on my worst enemy this year.

This might be more interesting than you think. Harding hasn't really showed much offensively this year, at least not on the scoreboard. If they get hit with a little adversity early(penalties, turnovers, etc) it could end up being tighter than you think. They let Ontario hang with them and I don't believe Ontario is nearly as good as Pleasant. Galion should win easily. Harding scored 3 TD's against Ontario, 2 were fumbles returned for TDs. They were held to less than 20 yards of total offense in the first half. Halftime Harding 35 Galion 7......

Unfortunately the Galion team that played at Pleasant 2 weeks ago showed up tonight. They look completely outmatched up to this point.

45-7 at one point. Galion looks like team from last year, Harrison ivy is no qb and that really showed. Ladd was a big boost for Harding. Wish he played first 5 weeks lol.

Post by usa70pp on Sep 23, 2017 at 8:55pm This will be a case of which two teams show up. If it is the two teams that played Pleasant then Harding wins. If it is the Harding team from the OOC games and the Galion team that played RV last week, then Galion has a chance to win.

How long did Harding play backups. After 45-7 I think?

I think the tipping point (during the game) for Galion happened when, with Harding driving and up 7 (14 - 7), there was a phantom pass interference penalty followed by a personal foul that put the ball on Galion's 18 yard line. From there, it was two or three plays and then, WHAM, Harding was up by 14 and on a roll. Adios, Galion. With that pass interference penalty, the referee must have wanted to keep his job at Whirlpool........just sayin'.

One pass interference penalty does not equate to a 35 to 7 halftime score. Please don't start sounding like 4.

Galion came out flat again! Same thing happened against Pleasant, and after getting down by 2 scores, Galion was done. This young coaching staff has not yet learned how to adapt to their game plan not working and making in-game adjustments. And gtab you are correct that was a phantom PI call.

I agree it coulda been a no call, but I was on fence line right in front and did grab his shoulder before ball got there. Coulda went either way.

I was in the stands and didn't see a penalty.....so I guess it's all in what one sees and/or hears. My point here (to those that don't see where I am coming from) is that the beginning of the end (for the Tigers) happened when the two penalties (interference and personal foul) shift all of the mojo to Harding. Galion was trying to hang tough, but those two penalties really was the beginning of the end to Galion's chances. My comment was simply me trying to be (at least mildly) insightful.

You must have been watching another game because Harding dominated that game from beginning to end... Your coaching staff needs to keep your qb in the pocket he was terrible at rolling out

You have a first year qb who with a very limited skillset when it comes to passing the football and really no special receivers to boot. If we can't out athlete a team(and there's no chance we can out athlete Harding) it's going to be a long night. In addition, didn't one of our best linemen go out with a shoulder injury? A 2 way starter to boot.

We did lose a lineman in the 1st quarter, adjustment wise i meant the defense mostly, in both losses they didnt make any adjustments or switch up players who just arent getting it done. They have a couple of kids starting on defense that just dont like to hit!

If that's the case then imagine what the kids behind them must hit like. Sorry, but everybody seems to have this belief anymore that somehow a coach would rather play a kid he likes than win. That's just not the case. If he had better options than what is on the field don't you think that he'd have put them in during/after the Pleasant game? I hate to burst your bubble but this week against CF is going to be even worse. Also, that lineman that we lost in the 1st quarter is a big reason that we struggled against the run. He commands a double team much of the time. His replacement doesn't. That means that there is one more blocker free to crack down on our lbs or to lead the play.

I agree. Coaches would rather win than lose with a player they like. However sometimes coaches like players so much that they think they are better than they actually are. They're more likely to unintentionally overlook their flaws if they like them.

I would normally agree with you, but I have watched this group of kids since they were in the 4th grade play together, IMO there is a couple of kids out of position that are just not defensive minded players. And a couple of kids that are that are just as good but are not getting a chance to show they can play. I played under some the same coaches as you did, and those coaches would have pulled these kids because of their lack of effort defensively. And yes I believe that a couple of the coaches are too attached so to speak to a couple of the players to admit that they may not be as good as originally thought. I do agree that next week is not going to be any better. And the that losing John, hurt last week! He is really good player that is only going to get better.

Let me preface this by saying my intent here is NOT to bash the players. However the reality is simply this, I have seen these players in their off season workouts. Heck, my daughters worked out with the football team all summer. There are just not that many horses in the barn.
Yes you likely played for some of the same coaches that I did. But you did not play with the same players as I did. Trust me, players displaying "lack of effort" would have been weeded out by the end of 2 a days. That would have NEVER been an issue on a Friday night.
In closing, let's remember that this team is sitting at 4-2 not 1-5. If I had told you that we'd be 4-2 at this point in the season there is not a single person here that wouldn't have taken that with a smile on their face. We still have a very good shot at 5 wins, especially now that the Ontario qb is out. Perhaps even an outside shot at 6. This is literally the best case scenario that any of us could have drawn up at the beginning of the year. So let's keep this in perspective please.

My intent was to explain how coaches liking certain players can inadvertently lead to them overlook certain weaknesses and not giving backups the same treatment. I wasn't speaking about Galion's players or coaches. I was making a general statement about coaches.

As a coach you are going to like some players better than others based on effort and attitude. I'm not going to use the word "overlook" but if the competition between two players is close the intangibles are going to probably be the deciding factor. I'm kind of fortunate in that regard because in the sport that I deal with the tape measure is the only deciding factor.
