Long time high school basketball official, Robert (Robbie) Lee of Upper Sandusky has passed away. Rob retired as a teacher at his alma mater some time ago, and as an referee more recently.
Most will remember Rob as a tall, slender, good, fellow...who refereed some of the biggest games in our area over the course of his career, the highlights of which were during the 90's and early 00's.
Off the top of my head, I know that he had the District Finals at Ontario in 2002, Bellevue over Willard, and the Regional Semis in Toledo in 2006, Willard over Wapak in OT. He also worked a couple of times at the State tourney.
Back in the old J.J. Huddle days, he was known to we media types as Bubba 54.
Rest well.

Very sad indeed. Not only was he a ref teacher and coach but a philanthropist donating much of his time to many causes. Board member of United Church Homes. I had him as a coach teacher and mentor and will be missed in so many ways. He passed from complications of a massive heart attack. Rest easy old friend...

I was not able to get home for the funeral or visitation (and I did send flowers,) but I can only imagine the number of visitors Robbie had. I had Robbie for 7th grade science and as a coach in HS and without a doubt, he was one of my favorites. In watching facebook posts, I'm not sure that all of his family knew his affect on those around him as i saw many posts that were shared with his wife and daughter.
I am in my 50's now, and when Robbie would see me at an Upper football game, he always reminded me of a particular story from the Bellevue game my junior year.... In Upper, he will be sadly missed by a multitude of people...

Some years after dad passed away classmates and others who hade him would come to me and would tell me that he was one of the best teacher they ever had and that they still remember a lot of what he taught them in class some 50,40,30's ago. One of them even told me it was because of dad that he became a teacher. It was a complete shock to me and my family( mother, brothers & sisters ) on what they thought of my dad. Teachers usually get very little acclaim when they are alive but I know if dad was alive today and heard this he would very happy but he also would, just like a lot of people from his generation always say, I'm just doing my job and satisfied with it. To Robbie Lee's family, may God bless you and comfort you in your sorrows and also Robbie is in great company in heaven.
