Good pics. Nice to see that Football stadium being demolished to make room for the Premier Soccer Venue in Ohio. Friday Night Soccer in Willard is going to be all the buzz soon.

Could this be the domino that brings Willard Football back to relevancy? "If you build it, they will come to play"

What possible justification do they have to spend this kind of money on a football field?

The school got $2 million back from building their new school and had to spend it to upgrade facilities that were already in existence! With that money they re did the track, put in the turf football field, are building a new bus garage, and putting the school board office actually at the school instead of downtown

As a point of clarification, the Willard plan was to refurbish the field with grass.....tear up the old sod, regrade, new sod, etc., Maumee Bay Turf was the low bidder to complete that project, however they proposed to install a turf field at no additional cost provided the were able to use the field as a marketing venue

Crimson- most of that is true except the no additional cost. The grass field bid came in at 407,000, while the turf bid came in at 497,000 so there was additional expense but not enough to not take advantage and get turf instead of grass

The school would turn down money, regardless of naming rights. 2. Charlie was willing to give up half his McDonald's commercial money to install a new field. Not saying this isn't true. Just surprised.

If that is true that Charlie offered to pay and they turned it down for naming rights, shame on them. The Willard paper had something in it this week about naming rights policy, better late than never. Who would they want to name this field after, perhaps Coach King, I like the ring to that, King Field.

I jus spoke to a school official last week about it while passing them in a store.

What I really see happening with this turf is a fight for who gets to use it. The soccer team without a doubt will want to be on this field as much as they can.

If the decision is made to not use the current soccer complex, I hate that they called it that, then the property should either be sold or refurbished into a possible site for the field house. Are they still planning on building the field house?

I had a chance to view the field yesterday. It's essentially laid out. What's yet to come is the sand and rubber pellets getting put in with the turf to provide the padding for it. Below is a layer of stone which is for drainage. The AD Joe Crawford happened to be there and told me what took place in the 11th hour to make the switch from grass to turf. As far as the Soccer team using the field, of course that is part of the benefit for the entire schools group of athletes---as it should be. Much more convenient and economical for those kids coaches and families to play right at the High School. We have A really nice set of bleachers and will provide a venue that can only help them as well in numerous ways.Hosting Football playoff games is also in the works going forward in the near future which will provide revenue for the School. In the future don't be surprised if you see a field house being built with Private funds directly West of the field. Another building block in the investment the community has and is making in our School System. Joe Crawford deserves a lot of credit for being a forward thinker in the numerous projects going on.

Buckeyekid: I like your AD. he seems to be a really nice guy. We were at a train show at Willard Schools last October. We were talking about what he would like in the future for your school's. He has a great vision for the future and Willard fans you will be surprise and very happy with his idea's. Also what I like about him is he loves trains.
