It doesn't matter if they move for a job or any other reason. They just need to actually move. More broadly, as long as they meet the bona fide residency bylaw, they do not have to sit any games. The "sitting 1/2 a season" rule is only when students transfer without meeting the bona fide residency bylaw and have previously participated in that sport at the prior school.

The reason for the move cannot be to play a sport at a different school.
ALL family members must move. If you have a sister or brother they must also attend the new school. For the brother or sister to go to the school moved from they must use Open Enrollment after moving to the new school district. The old house must be up for sale. The old apartment must be completely moved out of. Proof of a rental agreement or purchase agreement in the new district must be supplied. When a family moves, they must fill out OHSAA forms and have them notarized. The student cannot play sports until given permission to do so by the OHSAA.

The family moved and the father works in Fremont. And they were way less than pleased with the way that the girls program has been, and is being run in Bellevue.

Last season she started the season injured and upon rejoining the team when healthy just never had the confidence, especially in her shot, as she did the previous season. That's no secret. Bellevue plays a high octane game and she was a liability on defense. So when the shots aren't falling and you can't keep up on defense...well, the writing's on the wall. The coach plays his daughters...a lot. If you were the coach you would play his daughters... a lot. I feel confident they are putting the best players on the court. I would probably get the freshman Turner girl a few more minutes because of her hustle. Other than that I'm just a fan. A lot of good girls players in our area.

The way I hear it the girls that left were not having fun sense the girls program revolves mainly around the coaches kids. They are good players and from what I hear they live and breath basketball. So they do work hard. But if the other kids aren't having fun that's not good for a program. Nothing wrong with demanding great play but you also have to make sure the kids are having fun and then the program is a well rounded program. They lost three nice players this year that I'm pretty sure is going to impact the out come of the girls season come playoff time. Also how can a kid be a liability in high school sports? That's just a jacka_s statement.

I have to agree with the above post. It's one of the main faults that damages a program. HS sports should have an element of fun and if as a coach you lose sight of that, at some point you'll burn out your players. You can have fun along with working hard and growing. Smart coaches figure out how to do that. Life starts after HS not during it. I hate to see when a coach expects a kids life to be his or her sport .

I'm just curious, if the best players on the team had a different last name whether or not everyone would be be having more "fun". Reading between the lines a bit here it's a whole lot easier to blame a coach for favoritism than looking in the mirror and admitting that someone else is better than you are then working to correct it. In youth sports you have fun, when you get to high school fun is accomplished through competing at the highest level that you are capable of. We are talking about varsity sports here not an elementary school youth program.

When I was coaching football for 6th. graders, we use to think of ways for the kids to have fun and still work at developing their skills. One of these drills was Monkey Rolls. Now if anybody ever seen a Chinese fire drill this was it. First off, now none of the kids never even heard of monkey rolls so 3 of us old coaches had to show them on how it was done. Now pitcher 3 old guys in their 50's trying to do monkey rolls, that's not a pretty sight but we did a real good job at it and the kids loved it. In high school when I played not us players but the coaches got into some pranks on each other just to break it up. You can still teach life's lessons and still have some fun at it.

I disagree Galion. The having fun aspect should always be there to a degree in HS sports. You are confusing having fun and winning. I think Youth sports as in k-6 should be about having fun 1st and winning at all costs secondary about 5th down the list. Once a kid is a JV or Varsity level athlete winning is important. But if through winning a kid isn't have any fun, that kid is not gonna continue on very long regardless of it. i can think of at least 3 instances of a kid starting on a very successful Varsity team,,,and then not playing anymore in HS because it was no longer fun. It was a drag and became just a grind.

I really believe it had to do with the father wanting a coaching job. He tried to get the Bellevue girls and boys varsity job and back on the football staff with no such luck. Not sure why Bellevue wouldn't hire him so I am sure some sour grapes there. Also he tried to get coaching jobs at Margaretta Clyde and finally landing an assistant job at Fremont. Everyone's moved on Bellevue is doing great and looks like they are also. Happens every year and every program kids not going out. They see the writing on the wall and choose different options. Maybe specialize in a sport take college classes get a job. Kids don't desire to be part of a team like back in the day. Happened in Boy's program also Mike Raifsnider took a job at Margaretta coaching and took his son too.

When I coached 6th. grade football for St. Paul's we started by telling the kids that winning is not important down at their level but what was important is that they learn the proper techniques of the game and have fun. That was also the same thing that was being said to the 7th. 8th. and 9th. graders that winning wasn't important except, and then we pointed to the varsity field, there when you are playing on that field as JV's and Varsity players and even then you can still have fun there to. We also told them that at that level of play everybody gets to play about as equal amount of time as anybody else. That is what is important and why St. Paul's has just about their whole boys student section plays all the way though high school. I also know that is how the Norwalk Jr. Truckers does it. They want the boys to learn and have fun and play the game the way it's suppose to be played.

I've personally never had fun losing, but that's just me. Varsity sports become a drag and a grind. It comes with the territory. Either you enjoy the sport and/or the team enough to fight through it or you don't. If you don't all the pizza/movie/team bonding crap in the world isn't going to keep you out.

Obviously the St Paul coaching staff have it figured out pretty darn well. You hit the nail on the head regarding getting the kids to come out and stay the course all through HS. 7th and 8th grade is so important in sports and laying a foundation for the future. Galion I don't enjoy losing either. I don't think any kid does. The better coaches have a knack for finding a way to get a great thing going in Jhigh or below even and then keeping kids engaged into HS all 4 years too. I've only coached basketball at a small private school with limited enrollment. I had a few kids who went on to HS and played 4 years. We worked hard in practice, but I kept it fun and kids didn't skip practice and they improved during the course of the season. Those same kids tell me they never had as much fun playing hoops as when they played for me. I felt like my coaching goals were accomplished.

Why doesn't everyone move to a different school and play because they have differences with the coach? lol What the heck is fun?? How many hundreds of thousands of teenage girls strap on their bb shoes to have fun?? OK I get the team bonding and such but, doesn't that come from putting 100+% of your efforts on the floor. The winning results are fun. I am old school for sure and still believe in loyalty to a program that you grew up in, probably a foolish statement.

And yes, for students/players today, that is a foolish statement.

I think most here have no clue about the situation or would look at it differently if their child was one on the team. All kids involved came from a father who was a popular athlete years ago for the Redmen. On one hand we had one that’s coached at other schools including rival Clyde for football. Then u have the current girls basketball coach who had multiple Toledo catholic schools try to lure his son to play football for them when jalen was in 6-8th grade but he stayed despite exposer their son might have gotten playing for one of those schools. Fact remains if it was any other coach besides the girls father no one would be whining!! So are we going to judge Lyle Faulkner for his days coaching his three boys or coach Deibler when he coached his?? At the high school level I’m sorry but it is about winning and anyone who’s watch these girls play should be smart enough to see that they are clearly the best players on the court more times than not on either team playing.

exbellevueplayer, Have you been to one of their practices, I bet they are having fun there and still win and if it was the opposite they will still be having some fun. The way I see it kids have a lot of pressure on them already with grades, trying to be accepted in the crowd and other things so the coaches better have some faucet around to relieve that pressure and the kids could concentrate on practice and the game. Galion, my senior year we did not win a single football game. We kept working hard at practice to try and win at least one game but our coaches still made practice fun for us so we were loose and able to concentrate more. Even though we lost every game which I didn't like that part and unable to practice or play a game for 2 weeks because of mono I still had fun my senior year. Maybe I am exception to the rule who knows.

OK, To me it just sounded like you was just saying that they shouldn't be having any kind of fun at all rather they win or lose. I know people who do think like that and I'm always telling them that these are just kids playing ball not adults trying to make a living by always working all the time. Kids just got to have fun before it get harder on them in life.

The way I see it for Bellevue there is a issue and only the kids and parents know the real reason for the transfer. When you have three girls go to Fremont and one to Clyde that was in the program last year there is a issue but like other issues in school systems it will get swept under the carpet and not addressed and you truly don't know all the issues nor do I. It's not from the lack of winning enough that's for sure. If I had to guess I would say the kids don't like the coach and weren't having fun. Don't know much about the girl that transferred to Clyde but I do know the three that went to Fremont are in the rotation of the top six players. So I would have to think those girls would of made the Bellevue team even better. That's just a guess.

I don't proclaim to know specifics about the situation, but the sad reality in HS sports today is that for some kids and their parents, winning doesn't cure all ills. You can have all the Ws in the world and be incredibly successful, but if they're not "getting theirs," they still aren't happy.
